Swansea, you obviously have a very elevated view of where they football club should be. I'd rather be gaining points against the likes of Arsenal than losing 3 or 4-2. I predicted (and indeed gambled a relative fortune) that we wouldn't be beat by Arsenal. That's TP's make up, we killed the game but I'm happy we got a point against a bigger team. That approach will fail against teams we should be beating.

Are you saying that there is no other manager who can get a tune from £84million worth of footballers? Pugsley, you know full well that anyone who manages at the top level these days will at some point spend in excess of a million pounds on a player who turns out not to be as good as first thought. The long term matters more and TP gets far more right in the transfer market than he gets wrong. Think back to the days before TP and how many players who used to play for us seem to do better elsewhere, often coming here for their new clubs and scoring against us. Reel of a list of players who have left here under TP and tell me how many of done better/furthered themselves elsewhere. Will be a pretty short list. Tuncay, Beattie,er.... Commons?.... er.... oh look it's not one player

I don't think any other manager would of got us promoted to the Premiereship, no, Pugsley.
We had a great 2010/11 season and had a rather drab, uninspiring one season last.
He has plenty of credit in the bank to turn it around this season, and I, for one, will give him that time.
Be honest, if it was down to you, you would have had him out at the beginning of the season we were promoted. As I remember, it was all, 'binary this, and shit football', being spouted by you at the time, and he made you look a fool.
I don't remember, this 'beautiful football',being played by any of the previous managers, twenty years before Pulis set foot in Stoke.
He's frustrating, but let's give time, eh?

No, no other manager would of got us promoted.
In fact, we would of gone down if it wasn't for Pulis.
He turned us into promotion candidates with realitively nothing.
Anyway, blah, blah, blah, I'm not going to change your mind.

Lets see what business he does between now and the window closing and see where we're at after the table takes shape after 10 games and new players have bedded in. Only then can we make a judgement on whether we have improved. My head says we have enough experience to keep grinding out points but the chronic lack of goals are a major concern even to those who are more symathetic towards Pulis. I think that is a very fair point of view. Im hoping St Peter will have a "word" and react like he did in the first season of the second coming of Pulis when the obvious disatisfaction helped to open the warchest. Something has to change and I doubt St Peter will sit idly by.

Personally i think his best days are behind him, allthough for the first two games this season he has started with 2 wingers and is obviously considering CM and i like how Cameron looks, so I'm going to give Pulis another 5 or 6 games to see how it looks when the window ends and the team settles down.
Make or break for pulis this season I reckon.

There is no doubt that we would be relegated if TP leaves. He gets the best out of players and garners a tremendous team spirit. Perhaps those knocking him would like to suggest a replacement without trotting out some obscure name from Europe. TP won't be going anywhere. He can build a legacy here and we will continue to progress. No doubt ... are you being serious? So you're absolutely convinced that there isn't any other manager out there who could keep us in the Prem if they replaced Tone - there is absolutely nobody? Do you realise how ridiculous that sounds?

Sounds to me Void that you want these things to happen. I strongly agree with ST3Mark. TP is looking to bring more players in and I back him to get it right in the transfer market. The Oatcake were rightly strongly critical in today's issue of the bitter anti-TP brigade, who, LEST WE FORGET, if they had had their way a few short years ago, Stoke would never be on the same pitch as Arsenal, never mind complaining about a goalless draw with them. Please explain why TP was the only manager that could of got Stoke in this position. I'm pretty sure that he's not the only manager that could have got us into this position, but it took us 23 years to find one who could, so maybe it's not so easy as you like to make out. Or maybe, like most of us on here, you don't know what it really takes. Just like you never knew he could get us here in the first place. 6 long years of misery, eh pugs? Here's to many more

Other than Redknapp or Benitez (and both would probably want to spend the Coates' fortune rebuiding the team) can anybody name the new manager who would play better football (that's the easy question) unite the fans and comfortably keep us up (they're the hard questions)?

The squad that we have is more than capable of holding its own in this division. Like most of the teams that can finish anywhere between 8th and 20th, we have a handful of 'precious' players who we hold in high esteem (and value), with the rest of the team and squad made up of lower prem/championship standard players.
I think its complete bollocks to say that no other manager could get the most of out of team and we'd get relegated. If thats the case, then surely its a failure of the manager to build an established team so that when he leaves, somebody else can carry on his legacy? Thats what he wants right?? What they would do is utilise our midfield, get rid of the old dead wood and at least give us some hope that we could go to away matches with a belief that we'll win. Our away form over the past 4 years cant exactly get much worse can it.
Lets look at the 'quality' of players in the teams who'll likely be around us: Villa: Agbonlahor, Albrighton, Bent, Nzogbia Fulham: Dempsey, Dembele, Duff, Etuhu, Riise QPR: Cisse, Onouha, Park, Wright Phillips (bought a lot of mediocre/average players) Reading: Nobody really, though McCleary made a promising start, picked up for free Southampton: Clyne and Lallana good prospects Sunderland: McLean, Richardson, Sessegnon, time will tell if Wickham will progress Swansea: Great start for Michu, other players from last season under spotlight this season West Brom: Brunt, Gera, Morrison West Ham: Noble, Nolan, Diame Wigan: Figueroa
As for Stoke: Huth, Shawcross, Palacios, Pennant, Crouch - two of whom are a risk and another one who is wrong side of 30. There's not actually many players from other clubs around us that would improve us for good value. Similarly, there's not many players from Stoke that would improve teams around us for good value.
BUT, the difference between us and most if not all of the above, is that we're the only ones who dont seem to go to win games, or at least portray a belief that we'll get a result. They will all be much more positive. That's all I think most people are asking for. We're not wanting or expecting world class players and entertainment...just a bit of hope and belief that we can win. And out of those teams listed above...look where some of them have come from!! (winky smily thing)
As for anybody who suggests that we should only settle for what we have now, that this is the pinnacle - what a sad, uneventful and unfulfilled life it must be. To accept that things wont get any better, to not even to want to strive for better. If I had that attitude, I wouldn't be where I am now. Not once have I said to myself 'look where I've come from' and thought 'this is the best it can get for me'. My own success over the last five years has drastically changed, just like Stoke's. But I cant afford to keep with the same formula because its worked in the past. I certainly cant afford to believe that if I tried something else, I'd lose it all. The fact is, there's a shit load of other people out there wanting a slice of the money thats available, and you have to continually improve to make sure you keep your slice.
You can compare it to anything you want. 10 years ago, people wanted to by a mobile phone that allowed them to call and text people. Now, some people still just want a phone that allows them to call and text, but things have changed, and people now want the music, videos, internet, emails, apps. Imagine if Nokia had thought 'look where we've come from, we're happy to just have a phone limited to calling and texting'. How about if Apple had thought 'how can we compete?'
Things change, things improve, and you have to keep on top of the game. If TP isnt going to change, then he will be the one that will ultimately cause the downfall - not the increasing number of hard working fans who want to at least come back from a game with a buzz and, even if we dont get the result we want, to feel we at least did our best, didn't limit our own abilities and had belief that we were the better team

And we have a lot of collateral in the likes of Begovic, Huth, Shawcross and Crouch. But we (and Pulis) can see that four decent players can transform us.
