SSV, Valencia played at a slower pace at the Brit and still made our 1st choice midfield look shit...Tonight apart from Salif we looked better.

We normally play 4 in midfield, fuller and Jerome tonight played as LM and RM.... You cannot get much slower than Rory or Whelan. I agree, but tonight Arismendi was the wider man in a three, with Diao sitting in the middle. Fuller and Jerome were floating between midfield and attack, making up a 5 at times. The point i'm trying to make is how would he work in a hustle and bustle orthodox 4-4-1-1 that we're been using in the Premier League and Championship since the year dot? It puts more pressure on the two, especially when we are a man down against a 3, as we have been recently. Would he get found out? Would Pulis shift to a 4-5-1/4-3-3 in the Premier League? It has been mooted in the press, so was tonight a test run? Not to sound like a complete bellend or anything, but how will we know if he would get found out if he doesn't get a game? I would have thought Swansea at home would be a decent oppurtunity to test his Prem-readiness. I know it won't happen, but it should.

He's no good at long throws and doesn't run around like a headless chicke

Arismendi played very well, but it's worth mentioning a few points, without taking anything away from his performance at all. 1) He played in a midfield 3, not a 2, which helps certain players.2) He played at the much slower tempo of European football. Was just about to make exactly the same point. Funnily enough, I thought Palacios played much better tonight playing in a three (rather than a two) as well. I thought our midfield (up and until the sustitutions) was excellent tonight but (as SSV has correctly pointed out) it shouldn't be underestimated how important tonights formation allowed them to flourish.

I was impressed with Diego and Palacios but I think the pace of the game suited them better. Think this is why we haven't seen much of Arismendi - he's hardly pulled up any trees on loan has he? But he's always done well in the slower European games when I've seen him. The same is true of Palacios. Palacios' fitness is a mystery - perhaps he will never be fit enough to play a full game for us, but hopefully he will play more of a part next season. Do you think Delap or Whitehead would "pull up any trees" on loan? Just because they have been given the opportunity to play in the Prem several times by the Capped One does not mean they are better equipped for it

When was the last time you said that a stoke central midfielder had a very good game all round? Regardless of whether he played in a three or not, he was still strong in the tackle and composed on te ball, which cannot be said about the rest of our midfield. That's what frustrates me more than anything, our inability to keep and look comfortable on the ball.
Arismendi looks comfortable tonight, hence why I think he deserves some praise.
Would whelan, delap and whitehead have looked so comfortable if they had played in the centre? Maybe, but I do doubt it.

Man oh man. I was really impressed by Arismendis display tonight. Interceptions, tackling, even passing and running with the ball ffs. Pulis took him off, and left Collins, Delap, Diao, Jones on the pitch for the rest of the game. Why? What has he got to do to prove himself? Fuck me, Diego for president!

The stand out player for me, looks much better than;
Delap - The hospital ball playing, legs have gone, out of his depth at this level, javelin thrower.
Whelan - The Crab, incapable of moving forwards or backwards but cracking at moving from left to right.
Whitehead - Runs his socks off (gives Tony wet dreams) but is missing the final product for me.
Would love to see him given a run in the squad but we all know that he is destined for a 4 month trial of cleaning the stands after the games and giving the big screen a wash every week before being forgotten about and snapped up by Barnet.

Can't believe he got subbed. Maybe it was the fact he showed poise, skill, power and intelligence in his distribution, that had Tony thinking "I'll have none of that in my team". Man of the match.

He really does need a song going for him on Sunday, not to undermine (?) the manager but to let him know he did a great job last night, didn't seem like he wanted to come off either which is always a good sign.

Diegos reaction when he was subbed says it all. He couldn't believe it, and either could I. Diao was on a yellow and why would you move Delap further up the pitch if you want to score goals?! Proper mental subs by Tony. Unless he did it to save Diego and Palacios for Swansea... If Arismendi makes an apperance on Sunday I'll eat my words. But if he is left to rot in the reserves until his contract runs out after a game like that, then I would ask myself is Tony actually wants a proper midfield. Maybe it's a bet or something? Maybe Tony has bet some big money on how well he can do in the premiership withouth ever playing a proper midfielder for a full match. It would explain alot. Arismendi is 6 foot 3 as well, isn't he? He fits the physical bill, AND he can play forward passes and run with the ball. Come on, Tone!

was the best centre midfielder for us yesterday and we played 4 of them! no doubt we'll never see him again and TP will play the immobile delap instead, couldn't believe he got subbed last night, his face walking off the pitch tells the whole story is there nothing he can do to get in TP's good books?

So it turns out Our scouts can spot a player..... Just that we wont play them.
Massively impressed with arismendi last night. He looked like everything I wanted palacios to be. He really deserves games in the league, seems streets ahead of whitehead, delap and whelan.

The few times I've seen Arismedi play he's looked class ...beats me why he's not managed to even get on the bench ...he's probably not fit enough ??

I was very impressed. I've been impressed with his performances already this season.
I'll be shocked if he's even on the bench again though this year.
