Tommy is still a far better keeper than Begovic and should be no.1 until Begovic learns his trade. No he isnt I rarely comment on the footballing posts because opinions vary so dramatically - and we are all entitled to our own. They also seem to get far too heated on occasion! However, I really was quite surprised to see Hackett saying, not necessarily that he thought Tommy was better (we are all entitled to our opinion) but "far better"! (Sorry Hackett - I'm not looking for an argument!) Personally, I don't think Tommy is in the same league. He had a great Cup Final but Begovic stops many of the attacks that Tommy has to make saves from before they even start, by commanding the edge of his area. He intercepts through balls as opposed to retreating and having to make one on one saves. He makes his decisions far quicker and rarely, if ever, hesitates. He is far more commanding in the air and the defence seem to have more confidence in him. He has never withdrawn from a game in the warm-up, or shortly after the game has started. If anybody needs reminding of how good he is - watch the last 10 minutes of the home game against West Brom! I love Tommy and everything that he has done for Stoke - but Begovic is one of the best keepers around and he should not be sold or used in exchange to bring in anybody else. If we'd done that with Gordon Banks - we wouldn't even have 1972 to fall back on! We would never have won The League Cup without him! I hope Tommy stays and is given a similar incentive to last year. Whether that is the domestic cups or Europa I don't mind. But if he does go, he has my thanks for everything that he has done for us and I will wish him every success wherever he goes. I just think Bego could go onto become one of the best keepers of his generation.

madasasnake - Am i right in recalling when Begovic did actually pull out of a League Cup game a year or so back?? In dodgy, what's goin on here style circumstances. He also dunna wish to appear for Bosnia Herzegovina, which doesn't paint him in a very good light. If i'm wrong about the cup game withdrawal, then you can throw rotten tomatoes at me

If i'm wrong about the cup game withdrawal, then you can throw rotten tomatoes at me Hi Rigsby - No rotten tomatoes - I think that you're right! Although from recollection, I'm not sure that we ever really got the truth about that. The official club comment was that he asked not to play because his head wasn't right! It was at the time when Chelsea were showing a serious interest in him. He plainly disagreed with that version. Who knows, we might have been trying not to cup-tie him in the belief that we were about to make a quick and significant profit! Either way - he was never on the team sheet. I don't mind his refusal to play international football - especially as his reason was that he was trying to cement his place in our first team! I was really referring to the occasions when Tommy went out with the side and either didn't start or didn't play for long. It was only one of a number of comments. As I say - I think he's been brilliant for us - I just happen to think that Bego is better and I also think that a lot of people underestimate the value to a team of a fantastic, as opposed to a good, goalkeeper.

I agree with both points. Theres not much to choose between them. I'd say the only difference is age. Begs is younger and moves faster but when it comes to crosses I feel much much happier if Tommy is in goal. My only worry with Tommy is on a 50/50, he's far too good looking to be an excellent keeper and I have in the past seen him shy away from 50/50's

FFS!!! Guys this is a wind up Tommy Sorenson is not on twitter! twitter.com/#!/TSorensen1 I think he joined this week - and his account seems to have been verified by Shotton and Lund. I take it back then. He's still having work done at home but suppose cash isn't an issue.

Hard to find another no.2 who would be willing to sit on bench behind Bego.
No 2s are often younger players happy to get experience at a big club from a top but aging keeper (Foster at ManUtd behind VdS, Almunia at Arse behind Lehmann) and hope their time comes when old keeper retires.
If Sorro wants 1st team, IMO we should sell Bego and then bring in Joe Lewis or someone similar to be a no.2 and learn off Sorro in the 2-4 years before Sorro retires.

Sell the 24-year-old and keep the 35-year-old? Over the years I have read some crazy stuff on this board but this definitely has to be in the top ten.

Could we not promote an academy player to be our third choice 'keeper and promote Nash as our 2nd choice?

It defies logic Wandon......Begovic is one of the best keepers in The Premiership and to see him trying to be traded off as part of a swap deal or sold is frankly unbelievable!!!....its equivalent to trying to sell a 25 goal a season striker.

Man City have taken a former German international on trial called Hildebrand - so if there was any thought of Soro going there as No.2, that could be a no-go if they take him on?
WBA are still looking for a No.1, though, aren't they?

www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/Stoke-City-Pulis-prepares-Sorensen-exit/story-13004586-detail/story.htmlSTOKE boss Tony Pulis is assessing his goalkeeping options in the transfer market as a question mark continues to hover over the future of Thomas Sorensen.
Pulis will be looking at the likes of Wigan's Chris Kirkland, Marcus Hahnemann at Wolves, Tottenham's Carlo Cudicini and even abroad to provide competition for Asmir Begovic should he part company with Sorensen.
Pulis said: "We've been in discussion with him for six months. If we can keep him, we keep him."
Manchester City are monitoring the Sorensen situation after selling reserve keeper Shay Given to Aston Villa, but playing second fiddle to Joe Hart will not enhance the Dane's international prospects as he closes on 100 caps.
West Brom are also reportedly interested

If Tommy is going to depart (and if he did it would be nice to give him a send off before he goes) then one of the "5 or 6" signings we got to get in would now have to include a young keeper...
.....but that is a big risk for sure

I think it's disgusting that he is offered less when he's not playing. To do that to someone of his quality says an awful lot about Stoke, none of it very good. If he goes I don't blame him and wish him good luck. Very shabby behaviour if true Stoke
