Do you think I rely on that to bash Pulis with, Kav? Fuck me I can leave that to everyone from Noel Blake onwards who are much better qualified! The good news is for you that you are a safe distance away from what is being passed off as football on a match day and you can just read the result! ;D Thats proper Pulis bashing material! Cheers Mark, no I'm sure you can find more things to "to have a go with" than you can point a stick at (as they say out here). The good news is that thanks to "Austar/ESPN/Setanta" I can get up at ridiculous O'clock to watch all matches - home & away. And I do agree with most that in some of the games we do seem to have a bit of trouble competing effectively. However, it does not make me angry and want to insult or scream at the players and Pulis. It is very disappointing to see my team made to look second rate, which at times they are. But they are still MY team and I truly love watching all the games - good & bad. And good defensive football is an important part of the game and can, in its way, be just as exciting as good attacking football. At the time you watch it at Kav I'd be amazed if you could raise more than a snore at some of it! ;D You are right though. They may be shite at times but they are our shite!

What is the purpose of Stoke City's Academy? To create debate and give you & Mark something to bash Pulis with! Edit - (to save you the effort) - And no - it is certainly not to develop new talent!! I've seriously got much more important things to worry about the Stoke City's Academy, but ten years or so of watching many, many games, building up expectations of loads of people, fans, players and coaches etc, whilst wasting the talent of local youth is simply unforgivable. Of course it's true that not all potential players have the total package including skill, determination and luck to go all the way. Whilst I welcome positive news regarding new young players, I'm perhaps a little too jaded and more doubtful than ever because of that history, to be anything other than taking a reserved position on today's events. Hey, if Peter Coates wants to keep funding the Academy but not producing young local players for the club, then only he can make that choice. Pulis has never favoured youth. I said it when he came back to Stoke and despite his fantastic praiseworthy efforts producing results for the first team, his record with youth is unquestionably poor.

One of my biggest gripes with bloke as well. Not quite sure what event in his career made him doubt youth players. It would be nice to see a different face now and again making it onto the bench and maybe getting 10mins here and there.

www.people.co.uk/sport/football/news/2012/03/04/portsmouth-fight-off-adam-webster-interest-102039-23774857/Potless Portsmouth are fighting off interest in England youth centre half Adam Webster - despite being desperate for cash.
People Sport can reveal Everton, Fulham and Stoke City all want to see the giant 17-year-old defender on trial before making bids for him.
Webster, a strapping 6ft 4in defender, may ironically be able to leave for nothing if Pompey go bust.
But the Championship club could cash in sooner as they look for ways to survive.

www.bognor.co.uk/sport/tale-of-two-citys-for-young-footballers-as-stoke-and-leicester-issue-invites-1-3582206Published on Monday 5 March 2012 16:19
YOUNG footballers from Hampshire and West Sussex have been experiencing life at a Premier League club after the Elite Training Centre were invited to take four players up to Stoke City.
ETC have established links with most professional clubs on the south coast, as reported in the Observer in January, as well as teams around London.
But now two more academies have shown interest in their fast-expanding centres – and ETC bosses leapt at the chance to take some youngsters up for some action at the academy run by the Britannia Stadium outfit.
The boost comes as ETC prepare to start new weekly Chichester-based sessions this weekend.
Players from ETC’s Southampton, Fareham, Chichester and Bournemouth centres travelled to Stoke’s newly-opened £7m Clayton Wood training ground to take part in games against Leicester City. Jamil Roberts and Sam Callaway from ETC’s under-14s and under-13 pair Drew Smith and Harry Chapman were treated like professionals – put up in a hotel for four nights with breakfast, dinner and accommodation paid for by Stoke.
They played for the academy against Leicester, with the under-14s winning 4-0 and under-13s losing 4-0.
ETC’s Dave Eldridge said: “All the boys played a large part in their games and easily adapted to the pace of academy football, putting in some excellent performances.
“The next day they trained at Clayton Wood and a day later all players were invited to train with the under-15/16 academy squad.
“The Stoke first team were training so the boys got to say hello to Jonathan Woodgate and Thomas Sorenson.
“The under-13s trained on Wednesday and the under-14s played against the England national independent schools team. The academy manager had excellent feedback from the coaches regarding the boys’ performance, and welcomed the idea of more boys from ETC visiting Stoke City in the future.”
Leicester have also invited the ETC representatives.
Andy Rowles, director of youth programmes for ETC, said: “We received a call from Dave Wright, the academy manager of Stoke, and they came down to have a look at our centres and were really impressed by the standard of the players we had.
“They picked out four boys they’d like to have a closer look at.”
ETC’s reputation for bridging the gap between grass-roots and professional football is growing because of its success with pro clubs like Chelsea, Southampton, Reading, Brighton, Pompey and Bournemouth. Players are maturing into scholars through club academies and centres of excellence and ETC have produced five boys who are now scholars with pro clubs in their four years of existence.

I watched the 1st leg of the FA Youth Cup final last night Man Utd v Chelsea which Chelsea won 2-1. Interesting and lively game but really disappointed in Andy Townsend's constant punditry drivel about how most of the players won't make it in their existing clubs let alone football, but that's football.
Does he really know the reason why? Is he bothered? I very much doubt it.

I'm not sure if this fella has been mentioned on here but according to Bachmann and Rossi ( ;D ) on Twitter, an Aussie called Peter Makrillos is playing for the Academy side now.

Been down to watch the games today, stoke academy won 3-0 with Rossi scoring twice and Nardiello 1...the first going from Rossi was a cracker!!
Also checked out the u16 game, there is some very good prospects playing at that level.
i think they won 4-1 and again some good solid finishes. plenty of trials down there...some better than others
