I'd really like to be the old romantic who says ' yeah, let's have the glory'.
Sadly, I'd be lying, having asked myself the question.

its really tough because Wembley is a great experience which is nice for the younger generations like me and good for the oldies who havent been to Wembley since 72 , however i dont fancy championship football next year. why not both ?

The vile inequities of the Premier League and the potential for financial meltdown that relegation brings render it a non question. Sadly we seem to inhabit a world where finishing 17th in the league is deemed more worthy than lifting a fucking pot. Utter madness.

I would.
I've been really bored all season and the FA Cup's the only chance we'll ever get of any sort of glory. It's our best chance in a while, possibly ever if we get the right draw and I definitely think we should go all out against West Ham. What exactly are we staying in the premiership for, just to see us play shit football week after week, win the odd game and celebrate when we finish in the top 10? Not exciting for me.
Just being honest like, the championship days were brilliant imo and I enjoyed it just as much as I do the premiership, the novelty of it has well and truly worn off and we're now in a state where we'll stay up but by playing awful football and it's just got plain boring over the last 10 -15 games - i'd rather us go for games and get the odd tonking but really give sides a scare as we did in our first season, ala Wolves at the weekend and how Blackpool have been all season.

I think we have got a very good chance of coming straight back up providing we keep soem key players that said, if we don't come straight back up, but still keep hold of the players. we could see us face finicial uncertainty, and that wouldn't be good for the club.
Part of me thinks I've seen us play in shit grounds in shit weather watching shit football playing with a shit team for my first 15 years of supporting Stoke. So if I have to do it again I have to do it again... Pros of Cheaper matchday prices, some new grounds to visit. Cons it's not the premiership.

Is there anyone who would take that if offered it now? Not a chance. Indeed, if I was offered now, a loss against West Ham on Sunday for a guaranteed win against Newcastle, I'd rip your hand off.

I'm more than likely in the minority on this but i would take winning the FA Cup.I'm fully aware of the financial need for the club to stay in the Premiership, money is ruining the game.Having watched Stoke for over 30 years i have always wanted to see us win a major trophy.A day that will live with you forever,a bit like the Birmingham fans would have expierenced the other week.Which ever division Stoke City will be in next season i will still go and watch, but the chances of winning a major trophy don't come around very often for us. Anyway we're going to win the Cup and stay up. ;D

Persuasive argument. Personally I would probably still go with Prem survival, but I find it amazing that so many Stokies can so easily dismiss the idea of witnessing our second major honour in 150 years, a cup we have never even reached the final of, and something which would be inscribed in the history books of English football forever.

I'm shocked how many people would prefer to stay in the premiership than win the cup, personally i would love to win the F.A cup, that memory would stick with fans forever, who honestly would remember us finishing 17th or higher in the 2010-11 season. I suppose it says more about the sad state of affairs football is in now, money that is thrown about in this league takes priority over a cup win.

Okay I'd take the guarantee now of beating Newcastle over the guarantee of winning the cup, which I think is actaully a bigger choice to have to make.

Win the cup and go down. Is 225/1 worth a quid pays for season ticket even if it will be in the championship

It's not about just finishing 17th or higher in 2010-11 though. It's about being away at Scunthorpe in 2012 and away at Brighton in 2013 and away at Vale in 2014 and so on and so on. We might only have one chance in 50 years to play top flight football and jesus wept, we better treat that chance with some respect, as we've already used it up!

I'd take winning the cup and going down. What's the point in just surviving? Obviously the fear is we spend another 23 years outside the top flight but there's no reason we shouldn't think we could get back up quickly. And in some ways the Championship is more fun anyway, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Promotions and relegations are the reality for most proper clubs, we're bound to go down eventually, whether it's this season or twenty years from now. And years later who's going to remember another lower mid table finish. But winning a trophy is something we'd remember forever - it's the only thing that could compare to that feeling when we got promoted in the first place

For me, winning the cup would be completely hollow if we went down.
The trip to Oakwell wouldn't be any sweeter thinking, "oh well, at least we won the cup!"

You'd honestly sacrifice the privilege of seeing us lift it for a poxy win against Newcastle in one league game, which probably won't decide anything? I honestly can't believe you mean it.

surely staying in the prem, getting anew manager, buying better players,is worth more than an cup, we could really push on and get in alot of finals if we stay where we are

I loved it in the Championship. I like the Premiership but I hate what it is at times, I hate some of the fans in the Premiership, I hate the influence the TV companies have over clubs (yes I know it brings in a lot of money).
All I have seen us win is the AutoWindscreens and I want more, I want that cup. If it means going down then so be it. I am a supporter of Stoke City not some corporate corrupt league.

We were at Wembley in 1992 and 2000 for the Autoglass Trophy and Autowindscreen Shield (even I was there for that one, Bjarni with a quick freekick to Thorney, winner) so that's that one point of yours blown out of the water And the point of this thread is basically to find out which we'd prefer, either Championship football and the FA Cup or Premiership football and go out on Sunday. There's no option of both (but I'd love both, even if it's a bit greedy)
