Out of the players I've actually seen I'd go for Smithy or Sergei.

I didn't start going until 70-71, but only talking about this to me mum last week who started going in 61-62 season, she said straight away 'Clamp and Setters'.
But in my time, there's only one man big Denis.

Denise Smith. If the Arsole players were coming up against him today, they would be coming out wearing body armour.

There`s a big difference between being "hard" and being dirty. For example Mick Kennedy was just a plain dirty player, but someone like Ian Cranson who played hard and fair often hobbling around playing through injuries with plasters on his face was to me more of a hard man.
With that in mind, the nutters through the years have been:
60`s - Setters (mick senior recons he was was pure evil) 70`s - Pejic & Smith (hard rather than nutters) 80`s - Kamara (ended up in court twice over assaults on the pitch) 90`s - Kennedy, Keith Downing, Sandford, Overson, Beeston, Ware. 00`s - Taggart, Sergie (again hard not really nutters)
Also, dont really see this theory that Faye is some kind of hard man - have you heard him speak??**
** please dont tell him I said that.

The taggart one will live with us for years to come, simply because of who he had it out with.

Overson was a pussycat. I can't believe Bluto hasn't had a mention! Probably too subtle.

Taggert on Wise is a pisser! ;D
My old man (RIP) used to tell me about a centre forward who went around with a hand full of mud! Anyone remember who that was?
I always thought Bluto was more intimidating than Smithy.
Edit was it Freddie Steele?
