Hi guys, was asked to come on here and post my views on your latest recruit Marc Wilson.
So lets cut to the chase - Your first question of course - How GOOD is Mr Wilson?
Marc joined the club as youngster - He was rejected by Man Utd as a boy & came to Pompey. He was loaned out a lot in his late teens to clubs like Bournemouth and Luton. He was getting rave reviews.
Then in the 2008/09 season, Tony Adams handed him his debut in the UEFA Cup. Wilson set two of the three Pompey goals up and was awarded man of the match. Not a bad start eh? Unfortunately, Adams was then sacked and Wilson didn't get much of a look in under clueless Paul Hart.
Then of course last season came along, and behind Jamie O'Hara, he was our player of the year. Yes I know what you are thinking, we finished last & so to be a player of the year at a club like that is not hard. However, seeing as it was his FIRST ever season as a regular in Premier League football. Not bad going - especially as he was played out of position for most of it (played at the back).
His main strengths are his passing. He has fantastic precision and can ping 40-50 yard balls all day long. He is strong too, very good in the tackle and also good in the air. The only actual weakness I think he has is that he's not the quickest of players. However, in the defensive midfield role he plays - that's never come as a problem because he just sits in front of the back four laying off the ball to the people who can run at people, therefore his lack of pace doesn't harm him at all.
He's by no means the finished article. He only turned 23 two weeks ago. It may take him a while to adapt to the Stoke philosophy and get settled up north - As he's been down south since he was 16. However, I have every faith in him becoming a top top player.
He's not the only player you've taken off us that I'm tipping big things for either. I know Begovic has not got off to a great start, but he really will be one of the top goalkeepers in the world in years to come. He is an almighty talent. However, still not the brightest imo. Florent Cuvelier who you nicked from us at the start of the summer is going to be a smash hit. The Pompey staff were absolutely fuming he left on a free as he carried the youth team & had scouts from the top clubs in Europe coming to watch him. I believe he rejected City to come to Stoke so you should see it as a real coup.
I wish Wilson & Stoke all the best for the new season. I'm absolutely gutted to see Marc go in all honesty. I am encouraged though with Lawrence and Kitson coming the other way. Let's hope they produce the goods.
Any questions you want asking - Fire away.
PS - Can you have Sonko back? He's absolutely terrible.

Cheers, Josh.
So, if anything, do you think Cuvelier could be an even bigger hit than Wilson? What type of midfielder is he?

Hi guys, was asked to come on here and post my views on your latest recruit Marc Wilson. You may recognise me from www.twitter.com/josh23perry as I think I have half the population of Stoke following me now after the whole Wilson saga! Coggy on there asked me to post here - So here I am! It was a stressful piece of business and I'm glad it finally left both parties with smiles on their faces. So lets cut to the chase - Your first question of course - How GOOD is Mr Wilson? Fab post and sorry about Sonko. Dicko should come good for you. Last year on loan to Barnsley, they raved about him. He just has to find his feet, so to speak.
I have also hear great things about Cuvelier from a Pompey mate of mine and I dont think we as yet understand what a coup we got with him.
Hope Kitson finds his head and shows people he is still a goal scorer. Sad to see Lenny go and he will give you 100%

Cheers for that round-up Josh, I feel a hell of a lot better after reading that - I think for many Wilson and Cuvelier are unknown quantities, and as you say, Bego hasn't made the best of starts!
I'm sure you'll be pleased with your acquisitions - Lennie will be your player of the season without a doubt - and I hope he helps you get back up! Kitson on the other hand could be great for you if handled the right way, if not then heaven help you!
Cheers and all the best for next season

Nice read that, Josh. Thanks.
Kitson will do well if you can keep him happy, something that was never going to work with us.
As for Sonko, well, he does have quite scary eyes sometimes, but that's about it I'm afraid.......

Forget the merge then Josh, what a great post and having someone who can pass long full stop is a huge excitement for us !!! Sonko is pants as you know so i can't offer anything of comfort on him ! Kits & Liam will do well i am sure of it. Liam is a great player and take a look at the long thread on here about him, it say's it all. Who would you say Wilson is similar too ?

Cheers, Josh. So, if anything, do you think Cuvelier could be an even bigger hit than Wilson? What type of midfielder is he? Hard to say because he's on 17. But if he gets the right education & is handed properly - He will eclipse Wilson by miles. Box to box midfielder.

He should have another 8 years in the academy here so he should get a great education.

Aslong as he is 'Pulis Fit' a 'Good Kiddie' and 'Gives 100%' he will play every game if fit.

Like it !! So you think he will have no problems pinging it out to our wingers ? No problem at all. It's funny because 3-4 weeks ago I was talking to a Stoke fan who said they were crying out for someone who could put their foot on the ball, pass it and sit in midfield. I immediately thought of Wilson and hoped Pulis didn't crack on! A week later, you had bid for him. Crazy.

We've invested heavily in training facilities and the academy so he should get the education he needs and all the help and support. Hopefully he'll be a 10 million pound player in a few years.

We signed him in the Jan TW where it looked like we would finish mid-table. A terrible run of form followed & we were in a relegation scrap (I'm sure you will all remember the 2-2 game where Shawcross scored an OG in the last min). Anyway, it was clear he didn't come to Portsmouth for a relegation dogfight and spent the majority of his loan sulking about it. Gave about 50% when he was on the pitch and generally looked terrible. However, in his first few games we saw what he was capable of and if you can get that out of him for most of the season - You are achieving something most managers have failed to do. The bloke is a prat, but by no means a bad footballer.

He is a risk and hopefully his time abroad as made him realise that he wants to be here and he can settle a bit. TP is good at bringing players back from the dog home and as you say he has the ability so fingers crossed ! With Matty E on 1 wing and JP on the other it has the potential to be very good but time will tell.
