Now it becomes clear why we've got half of the Portsmouth Academy staff running our Academy. Very shrewd!
Cuvelier certainly got good reports when we signed him.
I just hope he pushes on, and gets in the team within the next couple of years. He sounds a hell of a prospect.
Was he definitely a free, as there was some suggestion we'd have to pay compensation?
City will have to pay compensation for Cuvelier, who had two years left on his Pompey contract when he quit the club and returned to Belgium.
Dave Kemp, a freelance sports writer who covered all of Pompey’s youth and reserve games last season, is convinced Cuvelier will be a success at Stoke.
He said: “He is an excellent player. In my opinion he was Portsmouth’s player of last season at youth level, and I’m not alone in that view.
“He’s not the biggest at about 5ft 9in, but he is very strong. He is strong in the tackle, distributes the ball well and can shoot from distance with either foot.
“He is a similar sort of player in style to Paul Scholes. Added to that he is also a very intelligent young man.
“I know Tony Pulis and I am sure he is going to like Cuvelier. He is his type of player.
“Cuvelier is very hard-working and committed, which are attributes Tony demands from all his players. He is also very determined and is a player who sets his standards very high.”

Brilliant !!!! 1 of them wingers is Pennant though, i know you are not as keen on him Care to share ? Pennant is a tough one. He clearly has the ability - Getting it out of him is the problem. We signed him in the Jan TW where it looked like we would finish mid-table. A terrible run of form followed & we were in a relegation scrap (I'm sure you will all remember the 2-2 game where Shawcross scored an OG in the last min). Anyway, it was clear he didn't come to Portsmouth for a relegation dogfight and spent the majority of his loan sulking about it. Gave about 50% when he was on the pitch and generally looked terrible. However, in his first few games we saw what he was capable of and if you can get that out of him for most of the season - You are achieving something most managers have failed to do. The bloke is a prat, but by no means a bad footballer. Sorry VBB this was it for JP, i am working on the rest

Thanks for that Josh. Really good post.
In reciprocation... Liam is a diamond. I am sorry to see him go, but Pulis had a bit of a dressing room revolution last year and LL got caught up in it. Only one result there and I think we probably planned for an upgrade as soon as the season was over. Your gain I think and ours too in Wilson (and Pennant). In the CCC he will stand out. Not fast but a good crosser of a ball and hard worker. He'll probably pitch in with a few goals as well. Keep him away from women and canines and he will be one of your players of the year.
Kitson is a prick, but he once had a career as striker and there are people in the parish of Reading who say he was good. He got a bit of a raw deal and he gave us a bit of a raw deal as well. He looked doomed here from very early on - eventually ended up being subbed and flouncing off the field mouthing 'Fuck Off' to the manager and flicking the 'V's as he disappeared down the tunnel. He has only had pitch-time with the youth team since then. I'd like to say I hope he does well for you, but I actually hope he gets caught in a tabloid scam being spit-roasted by a load of burley sailors in some seedy red light area of Portsmouth and then never seen again.
Sorry about Sonko - as others have said.
We take no responsibility at all for Stever Quitterall - just don't be surprised if you can't find him one day.
Otherwise. Good luck with your trials and tribulations

Also a sidenote regards LL and the Good luck messages. I will try and pass them onto Pompey's Media man. Obviously Liam is away on international duty with the ROI for the next week and a half so will hopefully get an update from him soon.

He’s a “Big Game” player too. The bigger the stage, the bigger the pressure, the more likely he is to step up and change the game for you. If a player does it once or twice you can call it coincidence. To do it time and again and as often as he did for us, when the chips were down, showed just what he’s all about. Legend.

Hi Josh , I too followed you on twitter (Peddy1963) and am delighted at the content of your title post. Liam and Kitson will help keep you there if not even push for a play off place, depends on what quality you have left. Dicko has the heart of a lion and will play for you all day long. Sonko...well.....he's all your mate ! Thanks for the info.

My very good mate who is Pompey through and through, and also raved about Wilson when we first bid for him, says this about Pennant from his time down there:
"JP has no footballing brain or much of a brain at all. He needs someone on the sidelines to shout constant instructions to him - if he has that, he'll be alright."
So, Tone, I've found you Salif's first task! ;D

Josh, what is wilson's awareness and speed of thought like when he's in a really packed scrappy midfield battle?

Josh, what is wilson's awareness and speed of thought like when he's in a really packed scrappy midfield battle? Good for a player of his age & it will only improve. He's very cool on the ball & has been from the very first game I ever saw him play. He really was thrown into the deep end starting out as a first team regular out of position but never looked bothered by it.

Thanks for the info Josh. Marc sounds an exciting prospect for us, as long as Tone evolves our style and doesnt bypass the midfield for another season.
You've got an absolutely top player in Lenny and I've no doubt he'll to a sterling job for you as he did for us. Really sorry to see the lad go and hoped he'd really crack on and get to full fitness for us after the Celtic deal didn't happen. Nonetheless, absolute Stoke Legend.

Josh many thanks for your posts. agent Sonko is not coming back mate he is out of contract at the end of the season. you have a diamond in LL, he really is a top player who im sure will shine for you. Not sure about Kitson, he will probably start well, but if things go against him, it could be a long season for him. I think he wants to be the main man myself, so Cotterill has plenty to do

West Brom ? Fulham ? One of the most complicated deals I've seen in recent times. WBA obviously started the bidding war. They were stupid as he could have very easily been a WBA player by now. Instead they came in with very low offers & the Pompey administrators were getting peed off. WBA finally after a couple of weeks faffing around offered around £3.5m and PFC (as I understand) were very close to accepting - Wilson was even penciled in to travel up there. However that all fell apart when of course yourselves came into the equation. Cotterill made it clear he wanted players in exchange and so him and the admin came to an agreement which was that he'd have to sell another player on top of Wilson to allow the Stoke deal to go through and bring much needed cash in - Turned out to be Tommy Smith to QPR in the end. That was the deal Cotterill wanted all along. Therefore when West Ham came in with a straight £4.75m offer, the club had a massive dilemma. The administrators obviously licking their lips at the new big cash offer would have to go back on their word & probably have to deal with Cotterill's resignation... therefore the admin asked West Ham if they would be interested in throwing in a couple of players - They did but Cotterill didn't want any of the ones WH were offering - Therefore that deal collapsed. As for the Fulham interest, that's all it was - interest. They never officially made a bid.
