Can't tell you how sorry I felt for you when I saw you were signing Sonko on loan for the season. As I understand you cannot send him back either so you're stuck with him. Saw Cuvelier in a random televised youth game once and straight away I thought he was a 'Scholes-esque' player. Seemed to be everywhere you looked and a real asset to the youth team. Dickinson will come good for you though hopefully. A strong and determined full back who will put his head on the line to defend for you. You probably saw the performance Wilkinson put in against you in the 2-2 at the britannia. Basically Dickinson is a left sided Wilkinson. As soon as he finds his form he will be a top player. Wilson - When we were first interested I had no idea where Wilson's best position was. In truth I thought he was a Centre-back. But after seeing him in a few games it was clear he was playing out of position. Like you've said he seems to be relatively slow but good in the air and strong. He truly is a Pulis player but with the passing we desperately need. Good signing for the club. Out of the two lads we've sent to you in return I have to agree with everybody else, Liam Lawrence will be a fantastic player for you. There was rumours of LL going to Wolves and Celtic, so for a (let's be frank) mid table Championship club to get him is a superb coup for Pompey. As much as I loathe Cotterill he has got two great players and given us a great player in return. If Kitson's head is in the game you'll see some goals. Quick question Josh: In truth where do you see Pompey finishing this season? Personally I now have them down as a mid-table club but with a bit of form and goals from LL and Kitson you could possibly become a contender for promotion back to the prem. (Btw I'm SCFCRoss on Twitter and want to say big thanks for all the updates from the South Coast )

His main strengths are his passing. He has fantastic precision and can ping 40-50 yard balls all day long. He is strong too, very good in the tackle and also good in the air. The only actual weakness I think he has is that he's not the quickest of players. However, in the defensive midfield role he plays - that's never come as a problem because he just sits in front of the back four laying off the ball to the people who can run at people, therefore his lack of pace doesn't harm him at all. He's by no means the finished article. He only turned 23 two weeks ago. It may take him a while to adapt to the Stoke philosophy and get settled up north - As he's been down south since he was 16. However, I have every faith in him becoming a top top player. He's not the only player you've taken off us that I'm tipping big things for either. I know Begovic has not got off to a great start, but he really will be one of the top goalkeepers in the world in years to come. He is an almighty talent. However, still not the brightest imo. Florent Cuvelier who you nicked from us at the start of the summer is going to be a smash hit. The Pompey staff were absolutely fuming he left on a free as he carried the youth team & had scouts from the top clubs in Europe coming to watch him. I believe he rejected City to come to Stoke so you should see it as a real coup. I want your babies.

With such a small squad, we are going to be screwed when injuries come calling.

By the way josh, both LL and Kits are cracking signings mate. I firmly believe that as long as you can keep Kitson happy he'll tear that division apart.

I might actually go to an Academy game to have a look at Cuvelier.
I can't remember the last time we had a youngster in the system that was given such a build-up.
The last one that I actually saw in the reserves and was genuinely excited about was Kris Commons - and look what happened to him.

Josh,
Just want to contribute my thanks for the Twitter updates in the window and the posts here - quality and objective.
Any idea why Pompey and Stoke seemed to have formed such a decent relationship, besides the academy connections?
And how close was Liam to not going your way, any idea?
(sorry if any of that is repetitive...)
Cheers.

Main reason would be that Cotterill is a poor mans Pulis & I think him and Tony are good mates.
I was told LL didn't turn up to his scheduled medical & didn't notify the club - Hence why on Tuesday we were in a massive panic & had presumed he'd rejected the move. However, he turned up in the end so everything was smoothed over.

Many thanks Josh for some of the best and most informative reading on this board for a long time. It has been an absolute pleasure to read your comments. You should do a weekly blog about the struggles of Pompey against all odds. It would make great reading even for a Stokie. If Kitson gets his head straight he'll do well for you. Liam will always put in a shift, and on his day can be a very good player. Dickinson is a 'what you see is what you get', typical Stokie. As for Sonko The less said the better. It's bloody criminal what's been allowed to happen to your club and people should be prosecuted over it. You have similar fans to Stoke and I wish Wigan would go down as they can't even draw 18000 for a home game with the Manchester scummers (egg chasing tards) Hopefully your club will prevail and eventually return to the cash cow that is the prem. Interestingly, old wobble chops seems to be teflon coated as it is he who spent a ridiculous amount of money and paid high wages to some very average players (Utaka for instance) He appears to enjoy spending clubs money, and is now doing the same at Spurs. No doubt his anger at the 'wheeler dealer' comment was too close to home for him. The truth often hurts. Anyway, thanks again.

I just hope he lives up to this hype. If he doesn't, I dread to think what will happen.

Message for Josh, if you return to this link.
I know personally the 21 year old who is trying to front purchase of your club.
Take it from me, he has very good connections, but it will never happen in a million years

Josh,
Kitson can score goals when he's happy. Hopefully being back 'down south' will keep him that way.
Sonko was poor for us, and poor on loan at the start for Hull last season. Don't write him off though, he was highly rated by the Reading fans, and a lot of the Hull fans warmed to him when Dowie came in and he played more. Confidence is the key (and having calm/better defenders around him)
Dicko, Struggles with pacy attackers, but his distribution is a lot better than the full backs currently playing for Stoke. Give him a couple of games to get settled (He's just had a new baby, so there's a bit of upheaval in the Dickinson household atm) He should be a fans favourite for his tenacity in the tackle.
Liam Lawrence; Best player in the Championship.

Cheers Josh, Good to hear a Pompey fans veiw My 2 pennith worth LL is one of those players who is too good for the championship but looks a little out of his league in the prem, I wouldn't be suprised to see him pick up the NPower Player of the Year award he really is that good in that league, He got 15 goals for us and topped the Actim Player Index in our promotion season. Kitson has to be the main man otherwise he'll strop, but he easily has enough natural ability to do well for you. Dicko for me should be one of the best LB's in the championship, a run of games and plenty of backing from your fans will help him no end, again has enough ability to do well for you but playing with sonko will not help. Sonko, sorry mate. Quiterell is a tosser of the highest order and i will donate a tenner to Treetops if he manages to last the season, Can't stand the guy. hope that helps ;d
