Hanley : 3 coffees : Nero, Costa, Starbucks, yeah, I know they're not independent but there is 1 or 2, just below Regent Theatre (can't think of name), Wetherspoons do Lavazza coffee, also the casino, Quality Hotel, etc. restaurants : Pastiche, Mr. Mimhs, (nice, sensibly-priced buffet) Fat Cat Kids : museum, Waterworld, bowling, cinema, ski run, etc.etc. Clothes : Terraces, Gemini plus another at that "end" of town that I can't remember the name of ! Restaurant-La Bella Napoli and Roberto's. 2 top notch Italian restaurants.

so, no independent cafes then.
restaurants: Pastiche (pffft - average at best); Minhs (average Chinese); Fat Cat (bar with burgers)
Kids: Museum ok, the rest not in the city centre
Clothes: Terraces (mainly dreadful), Gemeini - yup, about 1987. I would have givenn you Infinities 3 or 4 years ago. Pockets is decent but feel like a criminal for even touching the stuff.

I'm sure they'll do coffee...

The towns that make up the Potteries are like open shithouses. They are filthy and strewn with the detritus of the Macdonalds generation. It's fucking disgusting that the streets are full of filth and garbage, the roads resemble some third world nations roads, and the estates are poisoned by the chav/wannabe gangster/drug addled/alcohol dependant/anti social human waste that populate more and more of the available social housing. It's a toilet in desperate need of a flush

i find it embarrasing to see the city of my favourite football team in such a mess, why can't someone just bomb hanley so it can be rebuilt.

What annoys me about the regeneration of Hanley (and the other 5 towns)is how fast other cities get things up and running.
I used to live in Canterbury, and in the 10 years since I left they've managed to remodel the bus station, knock down a shopping arcade and then convert it into a department store and pedestrianised shopping area.(Time team did a programme from there).
They are also in the process of expanding the library and have knocked down the theatre to make it bigger with easier access.
Now this type of regeneration isn't just conceived over night, but once they make a decision they start it off.How long have our council been talking about a new bus station??Let alone changing the shopping area?

I feel everything's on me doorstep in Dresden for me personally Doctors and dentist is a two minute walk Longton for food and house hold stuff (Tesco, Home Bargains, B&M) Loads of decent boozers all within a ten minute walk (Potters Retreat, Park Inn, Princess Royal, New Florence, Ode Hut etc) Couple of takeaways a few minutes walk, opposite Bargain Booze I honestly do think I'm in the most convenient part of the city. Got everything I need within a mile radius My dad lives in Dresden so always going out there, great place!

Six depressing and utterly shit towns will never make a good city. How can Hanley be a good city centre when it's so unpleasant and not even a half decent town? The buildings, except for a handful, are truly wank so there's not even any potential. Add to that, the very poor use of what there is and you realise Stoke will never be a good city.

Yeah saw that it was half way gone going home on friday. To be fair, its only been there 100+ years because no-one has been arsed to knock it down sooner, there was nothing special about it, infact it was a shabby mess.

They're going ahead with plans to rename it 'City Centre', this would only effect the parts within the ring road though, so the surrounding areas will still be called 'Hanley'. Quite alot been going on the past couple of months... - Refurbished the ring road which looks pretty decent now (new plans, lighting, pottery company logos. - Demolished most houses bar a few on Bucknall New Rd, Waterloo St, Wellington Rd. - Building work started on new Tesco and other buildings on Broad St, Clough St and Trinity St. - Demolished old terraces accross from Northwood Park. - Canalside houses finished by Botteslow St, think they're all for sale now or already occupied (most of). Loads of pics on here... thepeoplesarchive.co.uk/gallery?page=1 They can call it a City Centre but people still won't find it. They'll just find a wank town.

Can't anyone else dare to be at least slightly proud of this?? Considering where we started the regeneration from (including a failing council) this is starting to turn round pretty damn well imho, albeit slowly

I'm liking the looks of this, granted, anything would be better than the dump now, but, providing it sticks to plan, it will be a nice addition to the city.

What exactly did they design in the Eden Project? All of it?
Have to say it looks smart.

Its exciting news, very promising.
I don't use the buses like, but if they could turn Hanley into a place where people want to go, then thats fantastic.
However. I thought that they were going to extend the area around the bus station into some sort of complex, the article says it will fit on the current ground? Meaning- will that be it or will the regeneration continue?

Post by digger1985 on Jun 24, 2010 13:52:13 GMT
Mr Red, the bus station is moving from it's current place, to the John Street carpark, which is next to the vicci hall. Once the bus station is replaced, they will knock down the old one and (hopefully) continue the re-development of the area, building the new complex you speak of.
