Anyone know why John Farmer never played League football after he left Stoke at the age of 27? Seems a very young age to play out a career at non-league level. I know he went to Northwich. He must have been semi-pro, cant imagine they could have hired someone on a pro contract. Think he went to the States He only played 3 games in the States on a months loan. He joined Northwich when he was 28/29. I just wondered if he was such a good goalkeeper why no-one signed him up?

Leek should receive around 1000 tickets...well that's what the away end holds + seats, not sure how many we will sell but really looking forward to this one...should be a cracker! Goaaarn Leek! Would love to see them in First Round proper. Makes you realise that it is a momentous effort for an 8th Tier to even reach the First Round of the FA Cup. 3rd Round is really like a Fairy Story! I'm just wondering how many (if any) 8th Tier teams have reached the 3rd Round??? edit. apparently last was Chasetown (same level as Leek now), who got the 3rd Round in 2007/08 and played Cardiff

Leek have been drawn at AFC Fylde in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round. No Stoke game, so a banging ground hop and an intriguing tie. Well worth it this one. Difficult and disappointing draw for Leek, although Fylde have struggled so far this season, 3 divisions between them, that's a big gap. Leek must be the lowest ranking team left in the comp?

The more they fuck around with the rules and involve VAR the worse the game is getting.
Nobody understands handball anymore, offside is a lottery and players are getting sent off for making contact because it looks bad when you freeze frame.
Notts Forest game was another farce today.

Awful balls up yesterday but it’s down to window-licking, keyboard face-rolling human incompetence. I am still a huge fan of the tech. It’s win for better decisions overall. We are in the 21st century and need to get with the times. Don’t blame the tech for human idiocy. VAR stands for Video Assistant Referee That is , a person assisted by technology Nobody is blaming the technology, but when you have people in charge of technology who don’t understand it nor how to use it, which is clearly the case, it is a problem, just like you would like someone who understood the technology looking after your nuclear facilities. In the future people will be splitting their sides at how this is being used. So many aspects of it are incompetent. It’s also clearly lowering the standard of refereeing.

What I didn’t like about the sending off was that when the ref went to the tv screen, you could clearly see that the first view he was given was a still if the worst looking part of the challenge. Surely he should have been shown the challenge in its entirety at first! The still, on its own, does look like a sending off, but if it is put into context with the full footage of the challenge, it is nowhere near as bad. I know he saw it all eventually, but to see that still first off, must have swayed him. Exactly, as in life, context is everything. My issue with VAR is that it creates a different reality with slow-mo and freeze frame, distorts it totally. Why don't they just watch it back in real time and make a decision??? It should be as simple as that. If they have to watch something 10 times to make a decision then something is wrong.

Totally ruining football and I would imagine fans, players and managers alike would be glad to see the back of it. Not going to happen though, is it? There isn't a weekend goes by where we aren't left scratching our heads over at least one decision! Is it because they want to create more jobs for these VAR officials, or is it to make more work for pundits? cant make it out tbh. It's just making the game so complicated and confusing. There is no discernible logic in decision making anymore.

The Liverpool decisions today are bizarre.
Drawing the offside line in the wrong place, and now they are saying they might have been drawing the line from the wrong angle all season.
We used to just be able to blame the ref or linesman for bad decisions, now its a whole team of VAR officials cocking it up.
Another sending off where the incident looks totally different in real time that it does when its freeze frame.
It's a real mess they have created.

I don't quite get the 'he's one of our own' chant
He's not from Stoke is he? He's got no Potteries dialect in his accent.
I guess it because he's come through our Academy?
Seems a nice lad though.
Credit to the manager in showing faith in him.

What do we suggest then?
Dropping Laurent is the obvious one, so how should it work
Not one midfield player has covered themselves in glory so far.
Burger and Bae look good when coming on as subs but someone has got to start.

Young players are inconsistent, it's a shame a lot of fans don't appreciate that and are too quick to judge. Especially when they are inexperienced. They are not FM like robots.

I was there. I don't remember the late Ian Moores (RIP) having that kind of skill! We beat Man City 1-0 at home in the round after this in front of 38,000 fans at the Victoria Ground with Jimmy Greenhoff scoring the winner, loudest roar I have ever heard at a Stoke game. I am sure I remember seeing the highlights of the Man City game on Sportsnight when I got home but I have never seen them. It was my favourite Stoke game ever. We all thought Stoke would go all the way to the final when we drew lowly 2nd divsion Sunderland at home in the next round, but we lost after a replay, of course we did :-( Highlights of the Man City game were on ITV midweek sports special. Despite hours trawling through you tube it's never come up. only photo i could find from the game

He wasn't fully fit when he was here. He looked bright but never got into his stride but you could tell he was struggling a bit with the pace of the game. He hadn't played for a while when he came here. He's obviously fulfilling his potential now after playing regular football.
I dont think its qualifies as another stick to beat the club tbh

Tbh, I think Wednesday were always going to be losing this after the Chairman's statement this morning. Hardly inspiring for the players. Can't say I've seen it, I just heard the commetator say no win for Sheff Wednesday and then the camera went onto Bannon & Windass in the stands. Ridiculously good odds at 6/5, more than doubled my money I'm amazed at the odds tbh. I work in Sheffield, no-one here was thinking they had any remote chance of getting a result in this game.

Easiest money you'll win that, double your money in 7 minutes. Soon as I Saw Windass & Bannon in the stand, logged straight into 365 Tbh, I think Wednesday were always going to be losing this after the Chairman's statement this morning. Hardly inspiring for the players.

Wednesday are miles away from the level. The club is in absolute turmoil. The fans have turned their back on the club, I was thinking there would be another pitch protest tonight, but looks like fans have stayed away instead. The Chairman has declared war on the fans. This could easily end up another 8-0 for a Sheffield club.

Might be interesting to see what happens at Hillsborough tonight
Trouble at-t-Mill is probably understating it
Big fall out between fans and Chairman, with Chairman saying he's not putting anymore money into Club after supposed threats against his family.

Well there was a lot of emotional attachment to many of those trees that were cut down, a sense of loss and a lot of outrage too, so some similarities. I suppose it was just more on the organised, corporate vandalism front. I feel there might be more to this story too, and some of the reports coming out now suggesting there might be more to it, whatever that may be.That was my first thought, all seems very weird. Bizarrely Eddie Howe got asked about it and is "really saddened". A journalist getting chopped up into tiny pieces and put into a suitcase by his paymasters, not so bothered x.com/BBCMOTD/status/1707757123843788809?s=20You just couldn't make that up!!!

Sheffield City Council cut down 17,500 perfectly healthy trees in 2017 claiming they were diseased, which they now acknowledge was a 'mistake' (or is that a lie!) Anyway someone (Amey who managed to persuade the Council they were diseased) made a lot of money out of that. Could we include these in any public humiliations please. Even though its completely different, I would yes . Excuse my ignorance but the replies in this thread seem disproportionate? The kid is a little cunt and will likely face life changing criminal repercussions, but is it not a bit much to call for his torture and execution? At the end of the day he’s chopped down a tree. Happens millions of times a day across the planet. Leek Town are at home to South Shields in the FA cup third qualifying round tomorrow. Its live on the red button on the BBC 12.30 , all ticket for those who are planning to go .Should be a big crowd tbh (1000+ is my guess) winners go in to the last qualifying round then the first round proper. Attachment DeletedLooks like they are doing the BBC commentary from someone's bedroom window! I wouldn't let Shearer or Jenas anywhere near my bedroom, thanks. If its Alex Scott, maybe a brew and a oatcake.

There are quite a few vague, and meaningless phrases used in football punditry these days? Why?
Well its because media dedicates a ridiculous amount of time to half literate people, marketed as experts and pundits, rambling on and on about football matches. More time talking about it than playing it.
They basically just repeat re-worked cliches then occasionally come up with a 'new' one, they then overuse for the next 10 years to the point where no-one knows what it really means any more. Or did they even know what they meant in the first place?
Nothing against half-literates btw, it just find it bizarre why some are given hours of airtime to basically repeat the same old rubbish every week.

One problem with cashless is when you have your account blocked due to suspected fraudulent activity.
Like hartshill, happened to me 3 times now, and you basically cant function for 5 days
Happened to me when I was on holiday and that was really shit, as well as the fact that it means about 2 hours on the phone trying to talk to someone at your bank which is not straightforward in most parts of Cornwall, or anywhere these days.
I wasn't even sure if the texts I was getting blocking my account were from the bank or a fraudster.
I had £40 in cash on me, luckily there are petrol stations that accept cash, so managed to get home.
Always carry some cash would be my advice.
