I ended up on the radio today talking about this! I wasn't going to any of the gigs but just texted in saying there's loads else going on in Manchester and I'd still make use of my hotel room if I'd booked one. I remember one night a couple of years ago when a gig in Manc got cancelled - I looked what else was on and there was all sorts. Scooter was one. I ended up seeing a Nigerian r&b singer called Sister Cookie at the tiny Night and Day on Oldham Street, and it was a brilliant gig. Wonder if it's possible that they'll pull the Liam Gallagher run of shows next month? Definitely. Maybe. |

New Co-op arena in Manchester has cancelled its latest gig tonight, with my 16 year old lad being one of the crowd told to go home. What a complete and utter shit show that place has been so far. I ended up on the radio today talking about this! When I was much younger, when Eric Cantona shocked the footballing world by moving from Leeds to Manchester United, I spent a week walking around thinking that his actual name was Wayward Cantona as the newspaper headline read 'Wayward Cantona signs for Man Utd'
This didn't happen to me, but I read it in the letters page of Shoot (or 442) in the early 90s and it always makes me laugh when I think about it.

Another album launch in Liverpool tonight, this time for The Zutons at Jacaranda records. Great small venue, band were on great form and we were home and hosed by 10pm again.
Another one of those gigs that makes you despise the general public though, with one massive turbocunt displaying the famous scouse sense of humour by shouting out 'it's nice to see you sober' to recovering alcoholic singer Dave McCabe as he just got on the stage. Same guy also shouted out for Valerie the second they'd finished it. You could tell he was a massive wanker as soon as he set foot in the crowd. Prick.
Plus someone filming every 3rd or 4th song with the fucking flash on.
Anyway, probably the first and time I'll ever do two Monday gigs in a row. Great night.

English Teacher at Soup in Manc for an album release show.
Don't think I've been less arsed about going to a gig than tonight, especially as it's a Monday gig, but glad I went. Intimate gig meant no drums but I think I preferred it that way. Good guitarist and singers got a great voice.

A thing I've started to not shy away from as I've got older is just simply getting up and walking out if I get bad service from the off. Did it in Spain in a posh restaurant for a family meal. Didn't get any service for ages and wasn't feeling 'the vibe' so just fucked off to an outdoor cafe round the corner (with the family of course) Completely different story, outstanding service, probably better food and way better all round experience. I think you get more confident in complaining as you get older as well.
