I don't know if its been mentioned but I cant be arsed read all 4 pages
I blame Pulis, he should have brought him off at half time to save those ironic cheers...To save Salif the embarassment, whats the point in giving him 4 minutes...Bad management skills

How else do we signal our satisfaction at the substitution that weall knoew needed making?
Do we need to chant for a "substitue"?
Do we need a text in to the big screen?!!!!

If Diao is continually picked, and we ned up playing Championship football next year, how many will still be clapping? Boo boys = bad for the club Happy clappers = bad for the club. We were right to voice our opinion yesterday, Diao has been wank for ages and we made our point to Pulis, like I said earlier if he plays vs Brazil he will get my support, if he plays wank and he gets taken off then more ironic cheers, because Pulis is picking a very poor player IMHO.

Pulis has said before, that he gives players five minutes to see if...... Like when, I think in the West Ham debacle I think - I agree with you man. A contribution of three seriously negative things (in a row) like Diao yesterday (plus the crazy yellow card) means a subbing - whatever the time.

I think most of the ironic cheers were directed at Pulis more than Salif. Unfortunately, Salif wouldn't know that. The lad has lost a yard of pace since his injury and it shows. I blame Pulis for it. It's what he does and always has done. Last season, despite what we could all see, he continued playing Griffin and the lad on loan from Newcastle when it was obvious they were doing nothing for the side. Fortunately, they both got injured in the same game and Pulis was forced to change things. Those injuries were the reason we were promoted automatically. He's done the same thing with Cresswell this season and now he's carrying on this fault by playing Salif when we can all see he is struggling to produce the form we know he is capable of. Pulis needs to play players who ARE doing it and not those who he thinks COULD MAYBE do it.
I disagree with some on this thread who say Diao isn't a good player. On his day, he can be superb. Unfortunately [for whatever reason] at the moment he is playing badly and doesn't deserve his place in the team.
OS.

so in that case - we would cheer someone who is playing poorly, therefore making us less likely to win and I'm fucked if I will go with the idea that we stuck together, nicely nice, but lost, oh well - fuck that - substitute!!!!

Sometimes it seems to take Pulis a age to realise what the majority of fans have figured out, he persists with things for far to long at times, the majority of supporters can see that Diao isn't fit or has not up to it weeks ago, yet he persists with him and look how it ends, with the poor bloke getting cheered off the pitch.
This is one of Pulis' flaws that is infuriating, I'm not having a go at him, all manager have their bad habits.
Delap is much better suited to that central role, which would also free up the left hand side for Etherington to come in, who offeres real pace.
I'd like Pulis to go with the midfield that finished yesterdays game for the remainder of the season.

Totally agree that Pulis should start with Ethertington, Whelan, Delap and Lawrence in the middle and they should start against WBrom. I also hope he sees the sense in playing 4-4-2 with Beattie and Fuller up front rather than Beattie in the 'Mama role', which made for a very frustrating first half.

very harsh, sticking together is what its about for us,players and fans alike !!! Yes, so much so we managed just over eleven thousand in a game against QPR last season, and a section of our support saw fit to join in the with Plymouth fans' "Pulis, what's the score?" during our game against them at the Brit.

I thought Rory set the tone for the last 30+ minutes yesterday when he replaced Diao in centre midfield. He really 'took the game by the scruff of the neck', he closed down, won a few tackles and passed forwards with a purpose which culminated in lifting the crowd an extra 10% which resulted in TP saying that was the loudest he'd ever heard the place for the last 30 mins which puts it into perspective. I, like everyone else thought Diao was very poor. Every player has a specific job to do on the pitch and Diao is obviously in the team to 'destroy' and pass the ball to a red shirt and he didn't do either yesterday. When Rory went in there, he did both very effectively. Therefore i think its fair to say that everyone would like to see a midfield of LL, GW, RD, ME at West Brom. Lets make no mistake, we have got a good squad of players now with good competition for places. Diao has got to take a step back and get his head right for the next opportunity he gets. Even though i didn't like the boos, i think it was just down to the fans losing a bit of patience with him. I think the fans can accept players making mistakes here and there but they won't accept players lacking ergency/workrate particulary when we are desperate for every point we can get. Hopefully it may be a blessing in disguise for Diao becasue the next time he plays he may just play with the bit between his teeth and think to himself 'i'll show you lot what i can do'. Just to conclude, there is a good player somewhere in Diao becasue you dont play for Liverpool if you are a mug. But Rory showed he is the man to partner Glen in the middle for the next game which allows us to use our pace and ability in the wide areas. Lets go and get 3 points away from home now!

No chance mate they were jeering Salif and, no matter how bad he was, I will NEVER condone treating a Stoke City player like that.

I was ashamed when we jeered especially with the praise we have recieved this year for backing our team. Salif was poor and has been for the last few games but he is a Stoke player wearing red and white. In his defense Boro played 5 in midfield and Salif and Glen were outnumbered in the middle and this left then exposed. I would prefer Rory or Amdy along side SGW on present form but still rate Salif and need him in the squad and he will always get my support.

Call me what you will, I cheered when he went off, I cheered because Mr. Pulis had finally seen what the resr of us had been saying for the previous 50-odd minutes. I don't like to criticise our own players BUT when there are players like Creswell and Diao on the field who aren't doing what they should then I get frustrated and feel entitled to vent my frustration!

Diao shouldn't be on the pitch in the first place, not really his fault.
Though he is a footballer and I'm sure that he picks up his money at the end of the month no matter how he is playing.
Being a footballer means he is rewarded well and as far as the praise of slagging off goes, it's part of being in the spotlight as a footballer. You play well for your team and you get thousands of people singing your name and if you don't then they cheer when you are taken off.
Up to him to find his form from a few years ago then the crowd would be singing there's only one Salif Diao but not in his present form, too slow, gives the ball away and gives away too many free kicks on the edge of the box. Not the sort of form to keep us in the premier league.

Very interesting reading this - especially bearing in mind Lawro's comments on MOTD - ' all of this booing of players and teams, never at Stoke'!
PS - Salif is an enigma. I have no idea why he has forged what on paper is a sucessful career.

To be fair, Sal has been UtterHorseShyte for a while now.
It’s not his fault Tone persists with selecting him though**.
You should never boo a player that wears the red and white (unless his name is Vincent).
** If he’s the best midfielder in his position in the league then I haven’t got a fucking clue what that “position” is.

I also thought (apparently somewhat naively) that the cheering was more to do with Ethers than Salif, who was abject.
And don't for one minute think TP doesn't know. He's not got a deal for next year, whereas Faye has. Diao will be lucky to make another appearance for us this season.
And, as mentioned, can we PLEASE play Beattie & Fuller up front together, or don't play Fuller at all. Don't make our best goalscorer into a workhorse. If we go to Albion and play Lenny, Wheels, Rory & Ethers across the middle, and Beattie & Fuller up front, we'll win and probably stay up. Surely that's enough incentive.

No-one is arguing about his form Tony but some of us will NEVER jeer one of our own. Yes I cheered when he was substituted. The reason being, I see him as a threat to the club staying in the premier league. This is our own club and looking at the bigger picture, the support of the club and it's future is what it's about. If the manager decides to take off a very poor player and bring on a better player, I see this as a positive step and therefore I cheered this decision.

It was a disgrace from the stoke fans that did that, no matter how bad anyone plays u dont treat the player that way Agreed, I felt really bad for the guy. he has been on a bad run due to injury, i am sure he was trying his utmost to do well. Should never boo or cheer a player off like that. He was supposedly instrumental in a number of our senegal signings too and we repay him like that?!... Disgraceful
