I thought the ironic cheers were a bit harsh for the big fella. He was woeful but I just felt sorry for the big man. All a bit unecessary imo but thats football. I hate the fact that players have to endure that.....but he was fucking shit no ifs or buts.

I was cheering because I was glad the manager had finally seen sense and taken off our consistent worst player for the last 4 or 5 games. Some people need to get a sense of realism, yes harsh on Diao but we have a right to voice our opinions, yes? I agree, I clapped but didn't cheer, I thought it was TPs decision to see sense that was cheered

Expressing your opinion is one thing - slagging off your own players is entirely different isn't it? If you had a bad day at work and on the way home 26,000 people stood around giving you grief how would you feel? In particular, how would you feel if you all worked for the same company and needed to stick together to overcome a difficult few weeks?

Paul, I thought TP was man of the match today. He gave us the team and formation we have all been craving (eventually!). 'He gave us the team and formation we have all been craving (eventually!).' ;D

Possibly yes, but we were all frustrated by the first half efforts and Diao epitomised this, he's woeful on the ball and not very mobile off it. we, as the paying supporter pay his wages.
again different matter, if I had a bad day at work it wouldnt be costing my company £20K+ p/w. If you go the patomine and play a perfomer whos constantly pissed and forgets his lines, would you not boo?
We all need to stick together but we need our leader to pick the right team, cheering Diao's subsitution was a point made to Pulis, I hope.

Exactly...the cheering wasn't ironic or done malevolently, it was just a collective noise of relief that Pulis had finally seen sense and substituted a man who we've been carrying in the team as a passenger for the last few months. Delap and Whelan were fine in the middle, and if either of them are ever out injured then Amdy Faye should get the vacant central midfield spot. I'd even have Diao behind Olifinjana (remember him?) at present...he's been awful.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one Evans. Togetherness and team spirit have been the two qualities that have got us within sight of safety.
Morale is a precious commodity. It takes months to develop and seconds to lose. If we hadn't won, I fear these jeers would have had a devastating effect on the players as they very much see Salif as their leader off the field.
I don't believe in public humiliation in my business. That does not mean that people are not made fully aware when they are not performing. I want to encourage them to do better - not destroy their confidence.

I will say that I didnt set out to destroy his confidence, I understand that every player needs supporting but for Diao its gone on too long, and I think his confidence may be long shot anyway. If he plays in the next match I will support him, but if, yet again, he's not up to scratch then I wont hold my opinion back as I feel his constant selection may well be causing our results to suffer.

I don't really know what point Pulis is trying to make by continually including Diao in the starting XI. He has been so off the pace in the vast majority of matches since his return that it's been embarrassing.
There were two occasions today when he collided with one of his two centre halves who were trying to head the ball clear. Compare that to Rory Delap, who was actually putting Middlesbrough centre halves under pressure.
It makes absolutely no sense to have him in our team at the moment, and the decision not to substitute him at half time was a poor one as well. The reaction of the crowd, whilst sad to hear, was pretty predictable, but it really shouldn't be an issue. The bloke shouldn't have been on the pitch.
That HAS to be Diao's last game for us today.

He was utter shite today like in the last few games. He collided with Shawcross and A-D Faye numerous times when they were trying to clear the ball and he jumped into Whelan when he went up for a header a few times aswell. There was one instance where he jogged alongside the player in possession of the ball all the way from the corner flag by the Boothen to the touchline by the tunnel without even attempting to make a tackle. Give him the ball and it is just scooped in the air (did anyone see it when he just lumped it into Boro's box in the first half when BT and Fuller were on the wings?) or is given straight to the opposition. He is flat footed, slow and useless.
For me today he jsut didn't look bothered and although I hate hearing players being booed he deserved it today.

Nearly chinned one of our "so called" fans sitting behind us when he started cheering him going off, he soon shut up when I had a go at him, supporters my fooking arse, part timers who may/ may not stop with us , , ...... BUT we WON so am a happy fucker and all is good with the world and universe ;D Wow, well aard you aint yer. Yes, I cheered his substitution. And quite frankly I couldn't give a toss what anyone thinks of it. He was shyte, and has been for a good few weeks, I accept that. What I dont accept, or respect, was his half arsed attitude today, fucking strolling around the pitch as if he was on fucking holifuckingday. He got in everybody's way today, and the sole reason for it was because he couldn't be arsed to get out of the way. Salif, I used to love you mate, but if I ever see you in a Stoke shirt again it will be too soon.

I was actually disappointed that Diao made it to half-time, such was his performance this afternoon, although he was obviously never going to be taken off before the break. He seemed to be wandering about the pitch in some kind of daze, peeking coyly from behind team-mates and pointing inquisitively at the on-pitch developments, like the escaped mental patients in A Bridge Too Far.
I don't agree with the crowd reaction to his substitution, though. Cheering on Etherington would have been sufficient.

By booing him though, you knock the confidence away from ALL the players. The Brit is famous for it fans singing and cheering our boys on. If you start booing players then our team are going to be as scared of crowd as the away teams are

he is fucking useless, and its been for the last 3 or 4 games now, how he even warranted his starting place is beyond me, the ironic cheers were fully justified, people in this area are struggling with jobs and money etc, so they deserve their say, and their say was he is shit hence the cheers. hopefully that will be the end of him now because he offers nothing.
