www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2009/20090112_081907_calve-interesse-stoke.htmlJean Calve, who has a passage of exit on behalf of Nancy, attracts interest. After Lorient, it is the turn of Stoke City according to the information L'Equipe. Calve, 24 years, does not form part of the plans of Pablo Correa who prefers Christian Mickael .He has disputed 10 meetings of L1 this season, including only seven as a starter. www.goal.com/fr/news/33/transferts/2009/01/12/1056486/transferts-stoke-city-sinteresse-a-calveTransfers - Stoke City is interested in Calvé The English club of Stoke City (First League) would have sights on the side right of the ACE Nancy-Lorraine, Jean Calvé. Six months only after his arrival in the squad of Pablo Correa, Jean Calvé should migrate to other skies. In France, Lorient touched the ground. According to the L'Equipe, the old Sochalien and Manceau would also be in the sights of Stoke City, promoted and 17th of First League. www.lequipe.fr/Football/FootballFicheJoueur23513.html

Their official site says he could be loaned to Lorient or "an English club".
Looks like he moved to Nancy on a Bosman in the summer, from Le Mans
But his name seems to have been mentioned with some big French clubs, like PSG and Monaco, while he was at Le Mans, as well as Lazio and Bolton- so he must have been rated there, even though his face doesn't seem to fit at Nancy.

He seems to be good going forward, at least, according to this on a Le Mans forum when he left...
At the offensive level, a very good player, fast and especially a very good right foot, it distils centers with small onions!
At the defensive level, not bad but it is in constant improvement (he has enormously progressed in hardly 1 year). He fishes sometimes in his placement.
In short, you have a super business by recruiting him, with large despairs of the manceaux supporters! You will like him inevitably!
A promising player with large offensive qualities ________________

"it distils centers with small onions!"
I've often said that about Liam Lawrence as well.

Babelfish doesn't exactly capture the nuances , but I think it's a poetic French way of saying he's a good crosser. ;D
'aux petits oignons' seems to be a French term for 'with great care/very well' or something.
Don't know where small onions fit in though. Damn those Frenchies.

www.football.fr/footballfr/cmc/scanner/nancy/200903/stoke-city-lorgne-sur-calve_60162.html?popupAfter Nantes, Monaco, Lorient and Mans, it is now the turn of Stoke City to be very interested with the defender of the ACE Nancy Lorraine, Jean Calvé.
The English club would be about to formulate an offer in the form of a loan with an option to buy to the Lorraine club.
A proposal which financially could allure the old Le Mans player, but now it remains to be seen if he will agree to join a team which fights not to go down.

Last week we sign an out and out orthodox left winger, this week we're linked with a pacey overlapping right full back ... I think I'd better go and have a lie down!

Great find Grapey (yet again!!)
Would he be brought in as a first choice? Back-up? The end for Davies after such a short stay?

Not inexperienced either, getting close to 100 games in the top Frenck league.

Interestingly he plays for the same club as Sonko's mate Dia is it? So we probably had scouts watching him and this fella caught the eye too.

Him at right back and Shorey at left back leaving AB Faye, Higgy and Shawcross to dispute the centre back positions - that'd be a decent back four! ;D

We don't want Shorey! He's wank! I really think he isn't good enough and he's never impressed me. He's looked woeful at Villa and Reading and God only knows how he got an England cap. His positioning is shocking, Simmo is a better left back!

www.lesdessousdusport.fr/dossiers/jean-calve-149-1308-1Mercato: the bargains of League 1 One month from the opening the winter market, it is time for some teams, thinking to strengthen. Even without a huge budget, coaches can find great deals in each position. Jean Calvé Considered by observers to be one of the best right-backs in Ligue 1 at Le Mans, the future of the 24-year-old is in doubt During the off season, he was bought to replace Mickael Chretien, who was awaiting departure. But he ultimately never left. The Paris native thought about leaving 2 days before the end of the market, in contact with Racing Santander and Marseille, he preferred to remain. Since then, he regularly plays ( 8 from 15) but relations with his trainer, Correa, are not in good shape. He could leave this winter.Clubs like Nantes and St Etienne could be interested

seems like Sams splasing the cash then ;D Beattie had been believed to favour a return to Blackburn, where new boss Sam Allardyce is expecting to have funds from the impending sale of Roque Santa Cruz to Manchester City. Stoke are also planning a £500,000 swoop for Nancy left back Jean Calve. Meanwhile, Allardyce made Macclesfield striker Nick Blackman, 19, his first signing
