Excuse me? What's this semi-retirement bollocks? I obviously can't speak for Monsieur Deschamps, but I've been out plenty. I did fake my own death in order to avoid going to a pub quiz the other night, but that doesn't count.

Its all about having a good manager. A manager like our Pulis gets the best out of players. If you're a manager in a club, that have loads of money, the manager often just buy players in east and west and hoping for the best. Often his concentration will be lost in the squad that he actually have. My point of view is "money doesn't always make a good team, but hard work and clever bargain for players who actually fits with the culture and spirit in the team is often much better, I think. Yet another good reason for being a Stoke City supporter. Cheers Bjarne

Haven't called him that in a while. Little Didier ;D I still feel we missed an obvious 'Didier' opportunity a few years back. Liam, didn't we have serious discussions around putting a piece in the C&T Times for his 30th? Placing a picture of Deschamps instead of him though, cos like, obviously, no one would be able to tell the difference......! ;D

That's right. I think we contemplated using the Panini sticker in place of an actual photo. ;D Particularly amusing was when actual Deschamps, who from this moment on shall simply be known as 'Deschamps Prime', started wearing that leather jacket that was exactly like Tricky's! ;D Still, would never have happened to Noakes. Jackets are for gays. Secretly I think he's a Geordie. He had the gut for it, and their eye for (I use the term loosely, obviously) women....

Good bit of business at £300k. And there should still be £1m-£2m available in the bottomless pit of the warchest. The money we got for Dazza paid for Parky and Cresser. The money we got for Higgy should pay for Corty, Shawy, Pughy and Griff That should leave: The money Papa-Coates announced* he was investing in intangible assets - "the biggest transfer budget a manager of Stoke has ever had" (* - he never said exactly how much) And possibly the surprise "bonus payment" made by the Premier-League to all league clubs at the start of this season (just over £1-million to us, I think ...) So plenty still left for center-mid and left-wing ... (Bring on Stellios ...) ah EDIT: And as pointed out below ... Ta!! ... plus the money for Hoofer, Patto and Vass (though Patto and Vass won't buy much more than fish & chips all round) And Clint Hill's move to Palarse?? Or are you counting that in/part of the Cort fee?

Can't believe the comments that this will be bad for Wilko and Dicko. They cannot expect to be in the team week in week out just because they are committed to the cause and had a good game on TV. They have to knuckle down, learn from Griff and fight for their places.
This is a great move for everyone. Griff will get us playing more football from the back. More quality in the team and the first signs of some real competition for places.

^^ Well, at least until he figures out that he can get porn on it......
Although the prospect of him completing even rudimentary tasks with a computer, like utilising a search engine, would be something akin to man first discovering fire.

STOKE CITY: I SHOULD NEVER HAVE LEFT, SAYS GRIFFIN 9 readers have commented on this story. Click here to read their views.
09:40 - 11 January 2008
Andy Griffin completed his £300,000 move from Derby County to Stoke City today and then admitted: ?I should never have left here last summer.?
Griffin has signed a four-and-a-half year contract with City and hopes to see out the rest of his career at the Britannia.
?Yes, I probably do regret not signing last summer,? said the 28-year-old defender.
?I don?t want people to think it was a rejection of Stoke City because at least 90 per cent of players would have done the same as me back then.
?I suppose you can get blinded by the lights of the Premiership and that?s why I chose Derby. I thought it was the last chance saloon.
"But when I was there, I kind of knew I had made the wrong decision. I realised it quite soon, but you live and die by your decisions.
?You don?t always realise how good a place is or how happy you are there until you are elsewhere.
?Now I am just happy to be back and it will feel good to be a part of the team again.
?It doesn?t really feel like I?ve been away because I?ve been down to watch five or six games and kept in touch with some of the lads.?
Now Griffin is planning one final crack at the Premier League with Stoke after joining the club that first launched his career more than a decade ago ? and where he spent two spells on loan from Portsmouth last season.
?All credit to the manager, chairman and particularly the players for what they have done at Stoke this season,? added Griffin.
?The position they find themselves in by the middle of January is fantastic. If there?s ever a time Stoke City can push for the Premier League it?s going to be now ... and hopefully I can play a part and do what I can for the club.?
Griffin joined the rest of the Stoke players when they left for East Anglia this morning ahead of tomorrow?s tasty top-six Championship showdown at Ipswich Town, but is unlikely to start at Portman Road after nursing a calf injury for the past month.
?I got a bit of a calf problem four weeks ago so I?ve not really trained except in the gym. I will be down on my fitness, but that?s nothing hard work cannot put right.?
Griffin?s injury problems mean youngsters Andy Wilkinson and Carl Dickinson are likely to continue? at full-back tomorrow after impressing against Newcastle United in the FA Cup last Sunday.
But the rest of City?s line-up remains in doubt as City boss Tony Pulis waits on a fitness test for midfielder Rory Delap, while he must decide between Richard Cresswell, Jon Parkin or Vincent Pericard to replace??Mama Sidibe in attack.
?Rory will travel with us, but whether he?s fit to play? we?ll have to see,? said Pulis.
Ipswich have won 11 and drawn two of their 13 home league games this season, and Pulis added: ?Playing Ipswich on their own patch will be our toughest game of the season so far because they are going so well at Portman Road. They have put just about everybody to the sword, so we?ll have to be on our game from first to last.?
STOKE should eventually all but wipe clear what winger Peter Sweeney cost them from Millwall two-and-a-half years ago after selling him to Leeds for what is likely to be a total of £170,000.
Stoke will pocket an initial £120,000, plus a further £50,000 if he wins promotion during the course of his two-and-a-half year contract at Elland Road, while there is also a 17.5 per cent sell-on clause on any future profit from his sale.
STOKE?S Championship clash with Cardiff at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, February 2, will now kick-off at 12.30pm on police advice

Bester76/DerbyRam their was rumour a week or two ago that Earny was set for a loan move to us can either of you tell us if you've heard anything about this? To be honest mate, no one here, outside of the club, really knows what's going on with Earnie. When Billy Davies was at Derby we just assumed that Earnie had really pissed him off somehow and now couldn't get in the team. Since then though, Jewell's shown no great interest in putting him in the team either. There's a rumour doing the rounds that he has a drink problem. Don't know how true that is. There were a few rumblings last week about the possibility of him going out on loan, but the team I heard was Wolves. All gone quiet since then though. Most of us at the moment would love to see him farmed out to the CCC. Get his form and fitness back over the rest of the season, in time for what's likely to be our CCC campaign next year. Some fans seem to think that we got him on a free. We didn't, we paid £600k for him. We're very pleased to get half of that back. It was a bad move, for him and for us. No point in persisting with a mistake, for either party.
