It would be a quality signing at Championship level, though even if we have had a bid accepted it means nothing unless the player actually wants to come. I hope there is some truth in it he would rip Championship defences apart and has a few goals in him as well.

If (big if) we do get Stelios, it looks as if TP is trying to build a side which will not only get to the Premiership but has a chance of staying there. OK, we'll need younger players like Shawcross, Pugh and Lawrence but TP will also want players who have been there and done that and players like Diao and Stelios would be invaluable in a maiden Premiership season.

Fornside would be correct if..
a) Daio had been able to cut it in the Premiership
b) The man with the kebab shop owners name wasn't 34 and was still deemed good enough to carry on playing in the Premiership.

If this is true the only possible reason he in anyway choose Sheff Utd is down to money. I mean who in there right mind would want to play for Alki Robson who's trying his hardest to take Sheff Utd into League One whilst spending shit loads of cash!

Ah, but there's leagues within a league in the Prem. Diao wasn't good enough for the 'top 5 elite' at Liverpool. He'd be more than good enough for the 'try not to do a Derby' league at the bottom.

This, if the reports are true, is a big chance fo the club to show it's ambition. Stelios would not by any stretch of the imagintion be a rock the city signing (an excellent signing non the less) but it is a chance to show we are aiming for the premiership and a more attractive proposition than Sheff Utd. Come on Stoke, push the boat out.

Why do we want a fat bloke who runs easyJet in our team?

He is cup-tied after starting on Saturday for Bolton.
He's always looked a very busy, effective player - but there must be an element of doubt about paying that much for a bloke who's 34 in the summer. Without watching him week-in, week-out, it's impossible to know hom much his legs have gone, but he hasn't started one game in the Prem, so must be on the wane to some degree.
But if Pulis thinks he can make a crucial difference this season, he'll obviously be very much worth it for us.
But isn't he normally a right-sided player at Bolton?
Megson seemed to be indicating he wasn't for sale at the weekend...
Gary Megson is not looking to offload Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos in the January transfer window.
Stelios has been linked with a move to Bolton's FA Cup third-round opponents Sheffield United after featuring only sporadically this season.
The Greece international has not started a Premier League game this term, but came off the bench to score an injury-time winner against Derby County on Wednesday.
His contract is up at the end of the season and, while Megson is not in a position to offer an extension, the Trotters managers wants to keep the 33-year-old for the time being.
"At this moment he's a valuable member of the squad," said Megson.
He added in the Daily Express: "Stelios has got a knack of being in the right place at the right time.
"His contract is up at the end of the season, but given our position in the Premier League, it's making it difficult to look long term when we don't know what the short term is going to be.
"As soon as we know that then we can start looking forward."

Which begs the question why no premiership club came in for him when Liverpool had dispensed with his services?
I like Diao and think he is quality, but whether he can cut it in the Prem is a serious question.
