Can't see the fee being £800k for a 33 year old with only 5 months left on his contract, £250 perhaps but not £800k

I am a bit underwhelmed by this I must say, Stelios looks like he's been dining with Parkin lately. He did score about 15 goals the season before last though I recall.

To add to onneravinit's report, I heard that a recent phone call between Tony Toni Tone and G Meg went down like this....
TP Remeber that line you was kicking to me on the way out to LA Laurelton Queens while we was in the car on our way to the Shop? Well yo right now kick the bass for them brothers and let them know what goes on...
GM What goes on? . . . . .well . . . . yo Tone. Wassup man?
TP I'm looking for a brother to come over man . . . .
GM Word? thought you had your detail in order man?
TP Yeah but we need another cat to front with the Terminator man on account of a G makin a trip to Africa an all.
GM Man we got this one guy, Yo the brother don't swear he's nice, he knows he's nice. A real bad ass piece a attitude like a seven foot black Bruce Lee man. A French Dude, Nicholas.
TP Fuck that G, I'm the public enemy number one in Stoke!
GM You still like kebabs? . . . . . . .

If your theory is correct.... Which "league within a league" is the side that Stelios is failing to get into performing in? I can't tie in this sort of signing being the forward thinking move Fornside is trying to promote it as, to be honest. It looks like a short term go for it jobby and in which case the price is too high if it is indeed £800k. Its the sort of thing you expect on a free but with short term high salary, isn't it?.

Just to add to the debate on Diao's worth in the Prem, dont forget that he had a short stint at Brum too, and the fans I know are less than complimentary about his play there...
Stelios has been a bit player for the last couple of years in a shit Prem team. Dont get me wrong, he would be a good signing at this level - but all this talk of us building a team to stay in the Prem is bollocks.
lets get there first...

Think this can only be a good move really. Haven't been able to watch the lads for a while, due to a whole variety of reasons that are for another time. So first game I saw was the toon game. Thought we had the nucleous of a really good team, just short of a bit of creativity in midfield and a quality strike partner for Fuller. Diao and Stelios would sort out the midfield, meaning just a stiker to go (plus some general squad boosting of course).
Premiership here we come!!!

It's got to have been like this... Ring ring.. Ring ring.. Ring Ring.. GM "Hello" TP "Ha Ha Ha Ha" GM "Tony... is that you" TP "Yep... remember when no-one wanted you in football?" GM "Ok, who do you want?" TP "Darren Moore" GM "erm... he plays for Derby" TP "Ah.. playing hard ball are we! Zat Knight" GM "....Villa" TP "Oh...ooo ooo Tebily" GM "...Brum" TP "Have you got any big black defenders?" GM "You don't need anymore defenders!" TP "What you saying" GM "erm I've got a Greek lad" TP "..is he black" GM "erm he's dark skinned" TP "triffic, centre half aye?" GM "He is now" ;D

yes but money isn't everything they are managed by Robson and surely anyone would be put off by that fact or they should be if they have heard him talk.

Yeah they pay him 40k p/w, but they have 11m off relagation. Which won't last long if they're pissing money away on wasters like Beattie.

If true, it's a hell of a lot of money to be spending on a 34 year old.

Spot on pez, what we need is a enough long term signings of good players who will have us challenging for play-offs or automatic for the next 3 seasons - not that I don't want us to go for it this time of course, but I don't think expensive short term solutions like this are the answer to our woes.

SF23: no need / read it the first time - you're saying there's a good chance they won't - i'm saying there is no chance. So we agree. I think

A couple of Bolton fans here reckon he has still got what it takes for them, let alone us. Although after not starting in the Prem this season I'd have to trust their judgement

On the face of it, Stoke are the more attractive choice for Stelios. Its up to him to prove he is not out for one last big payday. Are Sheff Utd going up? Well they're 11 points behind us, and just signed Lee Martin which says it all really. Mr Robson needs his beer goggles off.

'Stelios has been a bit player for the last couple of years in a shit Prem team'
A shit Prem team????? Wish we could be as shit as they were under big Sam
So a decent Prem player who won a Euro trophy isn't good enough for us?????
'lets get there first... "'
Would kind make sense to me- remember when we were after Kevin Davies- was a thread on here (including a certain member of admin) saying he was shit etc- since then not done too shabby at Bolton 3 odd years ago ???

The problem with signing players and taking 2 or 3 season to build up a strong squad is these days players want premiership football and wages, if we signed players and didn't go up and a prem team came in for them, they'd be gone and we'd be back to square one. Look at Hendrie, Griffin and Diao, we failed to sign any of them in the summer and they were the turning point last season for us.
