PC and TP have to see that their previous policy of buying players at the right price at the right time DOES NOT work in a footballing sense. OK financially its whats best for the club but on a football front it weakens our position. Thats we need players ready for Jan 1st not Jan 31st. Clearly Cort and Pugh will sign, the latter as a full back I hope, but we need a higher class performer in centre mid to compliment a fit Diao and some flair and speed down the left. A striker is a defo as well. Parkin, Pericard and Rooney will not step up to the mark. If we get these positions sorted early I will not gripe at all, but if I suspect it will be a last minute job, the ambition of the club has to be questioned in regard to where we sit in the league right now.

We can't sign a player ON Jan 1st can we? Or we can sign them but not play them as the registration office is shut until Jan 2nd.

Yes but you can't play a player until he has been registered - which means january 2nd - I think!

It would be nice to think that we have deals done already, the players are doing fantastically well but you do wonder how long they can keep this run going without some reinforcements? My wish list would be a right full back, a centre midfielder, a left winger and a striker. Up front I feel is more important than it looks at first glance. Mama is obviously struggling for goals but more worringly is struggling for form as well. Parkin still isn't a viable option (how long does it take to get fit?) and it looks like TP has (thankfully) realised hes dropped a bollock with Pericard. We are doing brilliantly but some added strength in depth will give us the edge I feel.

Matt, there is a difference between the transfer window (which runs on the dates you mention) and player registration - which, as far as I know, can't be done on Sundays or Bank Holidays. Obviously in this multi million pound business it is too costly to have one person sat by a fax machine being paid double time on those days!

Surely we have to get rid of a few players during this window as well?
Broomes, Sweeney, Pericard?

Not wanting to put a dampener on anyones hopes, but I'm not expecting to see anyone fresh in the first few weeks of January. This isn't because I am a PHWS (Pulis Hating Wankstain), but because I believe that we are now in the market for the kind of quality player than clubs do not want to let go without replacing.
I reckon that if we are in for Davenport and Quasie for example, WHU will want to bring new faces in before they let them leave.
I think we will have to wait for other business to be done before we get our slice of the cake.

In TP's interview with Nigel on SC World the other day he said that the two week period between the Hull game and the game against Ipswich was the crucial period as far as signing players was concerned. He suggested that period might make or break our season.

Davenport and Quashie haven't played a second of football for West Ham this season though.
They've been out for the majority of the season injured, but probably wouldn't have figured anyway.
Curbishley may have already got completely used to leaving them out of any planning.

Maybe so FM - we will see, but I'd expect to hear Tony state that it's a waiting game at some point over the next week or so.
The transfer window was an idea that just hasn't worked and should be scrapped. It was supposed to level the playing field, but in reality it's only tilted it further towards clubs with cash.

According to SSN this morning, Gary Speed will be making his Sheff Utd debut on January 1st against the Dingles and so you must be able to register the players for January 1st, surely?? BBC seem to agree too: Blades agree Speed deal

I guess the way around it is to organise a short loan period (a month say) so the player can be registered before Jan 1st and then sort out the full transfer in the window. But it doesn't look like we have done that so I think we will be waiting a week or so before we see any new faces.

Mahon's moved from Watford to QPR as well.
There does seem to be an emergency loan loophole, with the permanent deal to be signed later in the week - but when they actually are physically able to get registered, to be able to play, is unclear?
Queens Park Rangers have snapped up Gavin Mahon from Championship rivals Watford.
Mahon has moved to Loftus Road initially on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
The 30-year-old has dropped down the pecking order at Vicarage Road this season and Hornets boss Aidy Boothroyd is willing to let him move on.
Mahon, who is set to go straight into the QPR squad to face Leicester on Tuesday, is excited at the prospect of playing for ambitious Rangers.

You would think that Pulis has already got some players lined up if we are to be signing anyone, i mean it's not as if he'll start looking on jan 1st, he's probably had his eye on a couple of players for much longer and Im guessing the players are lined up to come in. Pulis was very coy in his post match interview with Nigel so perhaps he didn't want to talk about it because negotiations with players are at a crucial stage ? ...

I don't think we'll be seeing the end of Pulis and Buxton, jarhead as they''re only a couple of months in to new contracts. It would be an act of insanity to sell Sidibie (however much in the wider scheme of things he holds us back) and yes I agree there seems no sense in renewing Wright's loan although he loves a bit of experience around the place does Tone.
If you're trying to get me to say he's bought some bad players, then of course he has, if you want me to say the Pulis and Buxton situation stinks, then of course it does.
I'd be happy with being able to shed Broomes (a Boskmap purchase) and Sweeney in this window.
