I’ve have been, and even now, fortunate to travel extensively throughout SE Asia. The number of times locals ask which me team I support. When I tell them they all without exception can talk to me about Stoke City in one way or another.
A couple of hours ago I went into a telephone shop in Chiang Mai in Thailand to get a local SIM card. The guy who I was dealing with spotted the Stoke City screen saver on my phone and immediately went on to discuss Stoke City, he was quite knowledgeable about us, past and present.
Favourite players. Shawcross, Huth, Whelan, Walters, Crouch and (drum role………..) Rory Delap!!! Loved his throw ins 😂😂
Great to chat about your club totally out of the blue👍

Also fortunate to have travelled extensively, TBH on my travels I’ve usually found any mention of Stoke tends to receive a polite nod or look of you poor thing 🙂 ..( unless Stoke are in town )
Though an exception was in a taxi to the airport in Ushuaia , Tierra del Fuego , at the southern tip of Argentina .from where the Belgrano sailed . … discovering I was English the taxi driver asked who I supported , taxi conversations are usually just to pass the time , when I said Stoke instead of one of the big 6 I expected silence , but his enthusiasm genuinely lifted and we spoke warmly for 20 minutes about Banks , the later Stoke team of the 70s and how we should have won the league and football in general of that era … his knowledge was off the scale …perhaps it was just being alone so far from home ..or the surroundings ..but one of my truly ‘Proud to be a Potter’ moments .. and in a tiny way thinking football and a small team had helped rebuild bridges far better than any politician or diplomat could ever do
PS was in Chiang Mai in June ..how’s the weather now ..was very hot / humid while I was there as the rains where late

Was in Shinjuku, Tokyo back in 2010 at the height of the Pulis era and wandered into a sports bar to watch a Stoke game. Was amazed to see a fair few Japanese people in Stoke tops. I mean little old Stoke and there's people 10,000 or so miles away donning the famous red and white stripes cheering on big mama. Surreal 😆

… was in Split a couple of weeks ago. Guy cycling one of those bikes with tourists in the back shouted out “Stoke City, Stoke-on-Trent”. Assume he must have watched us in the Europa Cup (still haven’t forgiven TP for his capitulation against Valencia!)

Can't do us any harm spreading the Stoke message around the globe. Helps when we have a proper identity I think. And whilst we'll all have our opinions on the capped wonder he did give us a clear identity that I guess appealed to people of a certain psyche. IE no nonsense direct football played by tough, fit bastards. And Rory and his freak show throw helped massively of course. And last but not least Ricky Fuller. Jeez I miss Ricky 😥 😔

We'd take them shirts over with their own names on, and every single one of them wanted the number '8' on their back (lucky number in China). It was quite amusing when we went for a post-work kickabout and they had a team full of attacking midfielders.

What makes the current struggles feel even worse is that we really did make a good job of being in the PL . The club quickly established a character and identity that gathered significant awareness and support around the world. I doubt the same could be said of the Bournemouth’s and Brighton’s of this world despite the great work they do in maintaining and improving their status.

A taxi driver in SE Asia doing an impression of a Delap throw in whilst driving at high speed on the highway and steering with his knee has stayed with me for many years. Puts any theme park ride to shame.

Lovely memories. Although the Burslem one was obvious, I had to laugh. Potteries folk (I'm from London, but have spent all of my life here except for 3 years as an infant. The War interrupted my life), have their own sense of humour. I often have a giggle at comments on this M.B.

I’d normally have waited until November before travelling, I decided to give it a go. Last night I took shelter (seriously) in a bar out of the rain. It was torrential (understatement) and after three hours I decided to go back to the hotel even though it hadn’t subsided a bit. Thankfully the bar owner loaned me a snorkel and a pair of flippers otherwise I’d have still been there now 😂😂😂 Today has been cloudy but 30 degrees. I know, it’s a struggle 👍😁😁

Living in the US and frequently wearing a Stoke polo shirt it's quite surprising how many people stop me and know about Stoke.
Walked in to a local brewery and a guy shouts out "Another Stoke fan in Loveland!". Got talking to him and his son supported Stoke after he started watching premier league and loving Delaps long throws.

I've had a fair few across eighteen years in the depths of South America but my favourite by far was bumping into an unassuming working-class Chilean kid wearing a Stoke shirt in a shopping centre on the outskirts of Santiago. I initially waved off my own son calling my attention to it, assuming as usual it would be an Atletico Madrid or Paraguay shirt.. but he kept insisting and I clocked the badge.. this lad was there with his family and they were absolutely made up when I showed them my own shirt and told him I was from Stoke. His mum was beaming. We had a bit of a chat, he had no story or connection at all, just said he liked the team and his dad had somehow got hold of the shirt for him. We parted ways and he came scampering after me to get a photo together. Sweet family and a really nice unexpected moment.

the guy in his jaws spotted my broxap stoke top and shouted GOOOOO ARRRRRN STOKE! People are always happy to stop what theyre doing and make a comment when they see a stokie
