Was in Kenya in 2013 working, and the taxi driver my company lined up at the time got 2 Stoke tops foisted upon him when I departed. James was his name and we nattered daily about how Stoke were doing at the time. Then a week later this happened !!! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westgate_shopping_mall_attackI was sitting in a coffee shop in the Westgate mall on the Friday beofre chatting to a client !! Scary stuff when you think about it ! Had a few similar, Pattaya just before the tsunami as flew home for Xmas and the Oklahoma bombing was there 2 days before. We decided to head to Kansas think it was as on a road trip. Weโre making the trip up as we went along. Look at the map then head somewhere at random. Question is mate what were you doing in Pattaya eh ๐๐ Looking for Vanessa ๐

I was stood outside a shop in Chang Mai waiting for the family to pick up pizza and a lad came out, saw the badge on my polo shirt, shouted 'Stokie' and threw his arms around me, him and two other lads from Stoke were doing a similar trip to us. What fetching a pizza from Chang Mai??

Lots of kids wear football shirts that are usually donated. Arsenal are the most popular for some reason. Great thread

Also fortunate to have travelled extensively, TBH on my travels Iโve usually found any mention of Stoke tends to receive a polite nod or look of you poor thing ๐ ..( unless Stoke are in town )ย Though an exception was in a taxi to the airport inย Ushuaia ,ย Tierra del Fuego , at the southern tip of Argentina .from where the Belgrano sailed . โฆ discovering I was English the taxi driver asked who I supported , ย taxi conversations are usually just to pass the time ย , when I said Stoke instead of one of the big 6 I expected silence , but his enthusiasm genuinely lifted and we spoke warmly for 20 minutes about Banks , the later Stoke team of the 70s and how we should have won the league and football in general of that era ย โฆ his knowledge was off the scale โฆperhaps it was just being alone so far from home ..or the surroundings ..but one of my truly โProud to be a Potterโ moments ย .. and in a tiny way thinking football and a small team had helped rebuild bridges far better than any politician or diplomat could ever doย PS was in Chiang Mai in June ..howโs the weather now ..was very hot / humid while I was there as the rains where lateย ย Got chatting to a taxi driver in Belgium who claimed he played against Stoke in the early 90s in a friendly, for Standard Liege I think it was. Not even sure if we played any Belgian teams then or not tbh.

I got Delap and Crouch mentioned a lot in Asia too. There was a billboard advertising Premier League football with us a main feature I saw at an airport. I can't remember which player it was.

I once staggered out of a bar just off the Champs-รlysรฉes at about 3 in the morning, as me and mate wandered around aimlessly trying to get a cab we started singing โRicardo Fuller Cityโs No.10โ at the top of our voices.
Next thing you know a bloke opens the door of his posh flat onto his balcony and starts joining in at the top of his voice and laughing his bollocks off. We tried to strike up a conversation but he was two floors up, so he comes down to us wearing a t-shirt and a pair of Stoke shorts.
Turns out he worked for Michelin and spent 5 years over in Staffordshire, and had a season ticket in our promotion season and first season in the Premier League before getting a new job and moving to Paris. Bloke was an absolute legend, took us to a kebab stand and then walked us to the nearest taxi tank as wellโฆโฆ

He spotted my T shirt. Originally from Audley Was a great 24 hour Aussie pub, sadly no more.

I was in Rimini, Italy, a couple of weeks ago. We went by bus to San Marino and on the way back got talking to the driver who knew all about us. He was an Inter Milan fan, himself.

Kuala Lumpur March 2019 so the spring after relegation. Talking to various nationalities of people about general stuff then onto football. Mentioned Stoke City when it came to โwho do you support?โ and a late 30โs/esrly 40โs Malaysian waiter picks up an imaginary football, takes the stance of someone about to take a throw in and starts chanting โRory, Roryโ ๐ half a dozen blokes in stitches, rest of the restaurant totally baffled!

We should ban all posts about the team and the games and just keep this one going, at least you can read these posts and chuckle, unlike most of the topics on here where we just moan and groan. Some good tales here ๐

About 30 odd years ago I was on holiday in Tenerife when I spotted a young lad of about 16 in a Stoke top. I stopped and spoke to him and it turned out that he came from the Potteries. I explained to him that so did I but that I now lived in Scotland to which he replied " Where's that? Somewhere down South? " ๐

Iโve have been, and even now, fortunate to travel extensively throughout SE Asia. The number of times locals ask which me team I support. When I tell them they all without exception can talk to me about Stoke City in one way or another. A couple of hours ago I went into a telephone shop in Chiang Mai in Thailand to get a local SIM card. The guy who I was dealing with spotted the Stoke City screen saver on my phone and immediately went on to discuss Stoke City, he was quite knowledgeable about us, past and present. Favourite players. Shawcross, Huth, Whelan, Walters, Crouch and (drum roleโฆโฆโฆ..) Rory Delap!!! Loved his throw ins ๐๐ Great to chat about your club totally out of the blue๐ Here's me and a young Thai Stokie that I randomly bumped into on the MRT in Bangkok a few years ago...the universal love in for Peter Crouch and Rory!

Was in Shinjuku, Tokyo back in 2010 at the height of the Pulis era and wandered into a sports bar to watch a Stoke game. Was amazed to see a fair few Japanese people in Stoke tops. I mean little old Stoke and there's people 10,000 or so miles away donning the famous red and white stripes cheering on big mama. Surreal ๐ You can almost guarantee that none of them will still be following Stoke. I found a lot of football fans in SE Asia to be very fickle. A guy I worked with in Bangkok had followed Liverpool for 15 years and then changed his allegiance to Arsenal for the new season because he thought they played nicer football. That's just one example of many.
