Number 8? 2010?? They wouldn’t get out of the cage mate None of them would have been tall enough for TP.
Zhang Juncai at 7 ft 11 in, TP would find a place for him at RB

Great to chat about your club totally out of the blue👍 Went to a meeting yesterday and discovered that another person there studied International Relations* for three years in Stoke (Staffs Poly back then), loves Stoke on Trent, believes it be much maligned and under appreciated. He waxed lyrically about where he lived, where went out for music and curry nights, and couldn't speak highly enough of the place. He is from Wrexham, has supported them all his life, but absolutely loves Stoke on Trent. His favourite Wrexham/Stoke player is Mickey Thomas. We nodded in agreement. And them someone uttered "can we get back to the meeting now please...". *apparently there was a superb young International Relations lecturer cutting his teeth there who went on to become a Professor somewhere else.

Stoke once helped to break the ice at a job interview in rural Georgia. The Chief of Staff was from Iceland and I asked if he liked football. He said he followed Iceland’s national team and I became his best buddy when I mentioned one of my favorite players was Larus Sigurdsson! For the next 5 years we would chat about Stoke’s fortunes every time we saw each other!

Was in Kenya in 2013 working, and the taxi driver my company lined up at the time got 2 Stoke tops foisted upon him when I departed. James was his name and we nattered daily about how Stoke were doing at the time. Then a week later this happened !!! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westgate_shopping_mall_attackI was sitting in a coffee shop in the Westgate mall on the Friday beofre chatting to a client !! Scary stuff when you think about it ! I was in Kenya too a year earlier on Holiday. There was a young guy on the Mombasa ferry in a Stoke Top. Lots of kids wear football shirts that are usually donated. Arsenal are the most popular for some reason. Great thread If you had an Arsenal shirt, wouldn’t you want to give it away to a person in a country where you won’t have to see it again?

Was in Shinjuku, Tokyo back in 2010 at the height of the Pulis era and wandered into a sports bar to watch a Stoke game. Was amazed to see a fair few Japanese people in Stoke tops. I mean little old Stoke and there's people 10,000 or so miles away donning the famous red and white stripes cheering on big mama. Surreal 😆 You can almost guarantee that none of them will still be following Stoke. I found a lot of football fans in SE Asia to be very fickle. A guy I worked with in Bangkok had followed Liverpool for 15 years and then changed his allegiance to Arsenal for the new season because he thought they played nicer football. That's just one example of many. Yep...as fickle as they come. I've known Thais to switch allegiance between the two Manchester clubs depending on perceived chances of success or even just the relative sexiness of the players. It's mainly about enjoyment though, so that goes hand in hand with winning, which makes it even more remarkable to have met that Thai Stokie that I tried and failed to post a picture of earlier in the thread.

About 30 odd years ago I was on holiday in Tenerife when I spotted a young lad of about 16 in a Stoke top. I stopped and spoke to him and it turned out that he came from the Potteries. I explained to him that so did I but that I now lived in Scotland to which he replied " Where's that? Somewhere down South? " 🙄 My daughter who is extremely intelligent thought Scotland was in the in South if England also.

Possibly Early 90's Don't recall any Wrexham fans then but it was 30+ years ago Was exiled in Salop in late 90's and didn't like vast majority of Shrewsbury folk that I met however did know a Wrexham fan then and watched a couple of their games, far more amenable people them

A big thanks to all. This, for me, is the Oatie at its finest. All great stories, lots who have had the same or similar experiences. Really did laugh out loud on a few occasions. Literally (I know, I know) cried at the Kickstart clip. I was doing reasonably until the first fall… actually just set myself off again thinking about it. Thank you HMS Oatcake and all who sail with her.
