I'll always love Stoke and nothing will ever change that mate. I couldn't have been prouder at the time but I feel that the introduction of SJW may have significantly changed the dynamics. I'm guessing that the sacking was done without being able to give a substantial reason and a replacement was lined up a few weeks ago. I believe that directors and managers need to work together, and not to try and be sly by taking players to one side and having a quiet word. I believe that this is counterproductive and will only go one way, if this did happen. In my view, the club have acted disgracefully and we have a director who is trying to make a name for himself, as he didn't appoint Steven. I wish the new manager all the best but he needs to tread very carefully if he dare disagree with the playing staff, or potential new signings. Steven can hold his head up high and removed players who had absolutely no interest in Stoke or their fan base. He's brought in a young, hungry team who he believed would do well in time. Unfortunately for Steven, he didn't get it. I hope I'm wrong but I can't see this working out well with SJW at our club. This is to me is the fatal fault line with the DoF system Who is in control, the head coach or the DoF? If it's the DoF then the players know they can piss about and the coach will be gone, this is what happens at multiple clubs over and over again The head coach has to have credible authority without that it does not matter how good a coach they are, without it they will fail and fail quickly For clubs where the DoF system works is where the DoF is smart and operates in the background supporting the head coach Head Coach is seen by the players as having authority Sorry everyone but Pelach is going to have an impossible task convincing anyone he has authority There is no evidence that Walters is going to let players piss about. In fact the exact opposite - unwanted players have been shifted pretty ruthlessly. The DoF may well have the final say on hiring and firing but that doesn't mean it encourages ill discipline or that the HC won't be respected by the players. I'm pretty sure if the HC drops a player for ill discipline the DoF will back them - that's what happened with Mmaee.

Not enough strength or physicality or creativity and the last two aren’t midfielders albeit you volunteeee one isnt 😉, I actually think gooch is fine as full back cover and seeing games out We have to hope that Seko or Lawal bring something to the table as in my eyes midfield is the biggest problem with this team and why we don’t create much, too many average players, hence why we were desperate to get Cundle back. Hopefully Lawal will bring much needed physicality. Hope to see him at the base of a 2:1 midfield with Burger or Sidibe with Moran at the tip as plan A. I think what we’ve been trying to do is a pretty stupid idea anyway. Just want to see simpler football with a sound defensive structure and attacking players given more freedom and less defensive responsibility.

There are always recriminations when a sacking occurs. Usually there is “fault” on both sides and we shouldn’t make crazy assumptions on little to no information. I’m sorry to see SS go but we weren’t exactly flying were we. Plenty on here we’re questioning him. I hope he picks up a new club soon and is successful. Walters has raised his flag on the good ship Stoke City now. He has clearly made a statement about who is in charge. He only gets one opportunity to do that, there should be no safety net. Now he needs to stand back, distance himself from on field matters and allow the head coach to operate without anything coming down from above. Anything else is not acceptable. If Narcís doesn’t see the season out then the next sacking should be a double one. Let’s hope Walters gets lucky with this appointment 🤞 I agree with most of what you say but can't agree that Walters should be remote from 'On Field' matters. The 'On Field' results are ultimately his responsibility.

I was as shocked as anyone at the news, really like Shu,
But that decision aside, I’m fed up with a new manager coming in, needing to bring in his own players, resulting in an over inflated squad, time and time again.
If this brings about a change where future managers ( head coach) come in continuing with a similar style of play, surely that will be easier than what we have done over the last 7 years.
I’m not saying the old school manager is never capable of working, but in todays world of football, the life span for whatever reason is very limited, so consistency in styles is surely the most cost effective way

The 'On Field' results are ultimately his responsibility. He can’t employ a HC then interfere in match days. He shouldn’t be anywhere near the team or the dressing room on match days. If as rumoured him and Schu had a bust up after the Oxford game he’s involving himself somewhere he shouldn’t be. If he has issues with the actions of the HC he should be bringing them up in a debrief/review away from everyone else ie players and preferably not in the immediate aftermath at all. The following week in either a one on one or a meeting of the technical board are the appropriate times and venues. He’s got to make his mind up whether he wants to be a director or a manager.

Permanent signing wise I’d have put Johnson and Pearson down to Neil, and Ennis down to Schumacher. And they were all before Walters, so it does make me wonder if Martin not standing up to the mangers was a factor in him going. If a manager isn’t willing to set himself a target of top half with this squad and no more signings then we shouldn’t appoint them imo.

The more I think about this appointment the more bananas it becomes. A young side desperate for leadership and experience to nurture them is now going to be led by a complete novice. A recipe for disaster likely to happen. Happy with ss gone as he just came across as an inexperienced over thinker. Seriously think we’ll be looking for a new manager by the new year. Remember after the WBA game everyone saying if we swapped managers we would have won the game. Our upper circle make some bizarre decisions ( Lambert) based on whims but I do feel this is not the right time for this experiment on the back of a near relegation season. Totally agree - the confidence will drain from the youngsters in the grind of the Championship and he’ll not have the experience to deal with it or have many leaders in the dressing room to call upon. Sacked by Christmas and the new transfer strategy will be signing veteran championship players to keep us in the league. Hope I’m wrong but fear this could be grim. This is pretty much exactly what I’m expecting. Manager and Walter’s gone at Christmas. Completely rip up the style under the DOF/SD and manager too at a guess.

Reading between the lines it looks there are a couple of god-like senior members of staff who only want yes men working under them both on and off the pitch. I fear this never bodes well for the future but when the new manager is appointed he must get the support of the crowd cos he sure as hell will need it!

I agree re the DoF not interfering directly in the dressing room. However as I understand the rumours Walters had a bust up with Schumacher 3 weeks ago and it was the players who had a bust up with Schumacher at the Oxford match. I don't know if that is what happened - where did you get Walters having a bust up in the dressing room from?

It is like throwing a hail Mary. If we had fired SS and got in Alardyce I would have at least somewhat understood. I much prefer this scenario than Allardyce or similar. Football moves on and Allardyce would just have held us back for two years. Not sure what to think of Pelach but the more I hear the more I like him. Knows what he wants and is passionate about getting players to play his way. Seems he was very popular with the players at Norwich too. Football and society in general have moved away from ruling with a rod towards a more positive, supportive, enthusiastic motivational approach. That doesn't mean players get away with not doing the right thing though. Fingers crossed for once Stoke might find an upcoming first class manager like Potter or Frank neither of whom had any experience of managing in England before becoming successful managers.

I thought the players had Wednesday off but with a Friday game that may change. Imagine everything comes forward a day and there will be a few who didn't get any/many minutes who'll need a decent session today. I don't imagine those from last night were in at the crack of dawn, maybe just about now getting in for their recovery.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-narcis-pelach-live-9556516Narcis Pelach's coaching teamIt might be a case of watch this space on Pelach's backroom set-up. But keeper coach Paul Clements is expected to make the move from Norwich too as well as analyst Harrison Glew, who also worked with Pelach at Huddersfield Town. Dean Whitehead, the former Stoke midfielder whose coaching career has taken him from Port Vale to Besiktas as well as spells at Cardiff and Watford, could join from Barnsley. His son is in the Stoke academy. Clements and Glew were in the executive box with Pelach last night.

If a head coach plays 5 at the back in a home game, then Gooch in a number 10 role 2 games later and doesn’t have explanations that people above are happy with… well that’s not refusing to be a yes man in my eyes, it is something Walters was right to be concerned about.

Smells like a DOF who can't work with his HC and has thrown his toys out of the pram and gone all Alan Sugar. Massive red flag for me on little Johnny Walters now..

I don’t have an issue with the structure - it works well at lots of other clubs albeit mainly in Europe. My issue here is the inference that there are people at the Club in the top positions who only want yes men. All the best businesses have disagreements and the ability to challenge opinions is a key aspect of success. Now the inference may be wrong but if it isn’t then we are setting people up to fail. That strikes of an owner shirking responsibility to key people and showing why he isn’t running the family business.
