I thought he got it spot on last night. Yes it was a hard watch first half but he would have been crucified had he played some of the first teamers and they had got injured pre Derby. Incidentally I saw plenty of dour performances under Pulis where we hardly got out of our half. The game plan almost worked but spoiled by a bit of bad luck and a poor referee. Well done to the youngsters they kept at it and were a credit to the club. Come on now let’s beat Derby! Very much agree. We should also consider the fact that Southampton made less changes than we did and were actually pretty strong. Second half was a good performance.

Spot on? like surrendering the pitch to a team struggling at the bottom of the premiership with a notorious leaky defence. The game plan almost worked? There was no game plan apart from damage limitation and to squander possession and territory time and time again. I've no problem with our youngsters but the set up was pathetic and bound to fail and did them no favours. The ref didn't lose us the game it was lost because we were meek and that's down to our head coach. The game plan was similar to Southampton's at Man City last weekend, where they conceded one goal with their notoriously leaky defence and almost nicked a point......

I’ve nothing against Pelach but think he’s the wrong man at the wrong time and is way out of his depth. Does he deserve more time, probably, almost certainly, will it change anything, probably not, almost certainly not. I’m all for giving managers/hc’s time and the problem runs much deeper as most of us know and changing managers constantly solves little. However I’m deeply worried that this man could take us down and with his lack of experience if we really get in the mire we will struggle to get out. He needs to improve quickly and put some consistent performances together but to date I don’t see any coherent plan, process or vision in his thinking or approach to games and that is worrying.

When he was announced my thoughts were “who”, now at the stage where my thoughts are “why” and “when” do we get rid. An appalling appointment and up there with Lambert Its akin to giving the wheel to a bosun on board The Titanic......and we all know how that ended !

We've been largely shit for years. Jose Mourinho with Paul Daniels as his assistant couldn't turn this around in a few transfer windows, never mind a few weeks.
What did all the bedwetters on here expect? New bloke comes in with a magic wand?
For fucks sake let's stay postive!

Another snake oil salesman in the mould of Jones. However he wants to dress it up, Soton had 78% possession and 807!!! successful passes last night. Granted not as many shots as recently. Easily THE most awful appointment since Lambert, it's a disaster waiting to happen and designed by Walters, who appears to have gone AWOL for the last few weeks as the calamity of his decision sunk in. Pelach needs to go, and quick with JW following him. He's not SJW after these last few weeks [br Their fanzine makes an interesting read. www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/news/63232/ It points out that although Southampton had 78% possession they didn't create anything and most of their possession was sideways and backward safe passes. They back up this with two interesting stats: with their 78% possession they had 12 shots while Stoke had 6 with our 22%. Likewise they only had 32 touches in the penalty area to our 15. Imagine what our fans would be like if Stoke played this style.

With our squad, he'd have us bottom of the Championship, but would lax lyrical about us winning the possession every week. That said, those stats underline that Southampton actually created far more than us last night, so on this occasion Russell's possession game clearly paid off. They had twice as many shots, more than double the amount of touches in the penalty area, and scored more goals than us.

Yep it is early but the signs aren’t promising. I think most people’s frustration and mine seriously is this all could have been avoided with good stewardship of the club. People accepted the good and the bad when we weren’t wealthy but there are few excuses left now after unremitting failure.

We do try and change but we’re always behind the curve and the change seems to be half hearted and usually badly or incompletely implemented. If it was run like BET365 we could be up with the best, I’m astounded that some of those principles that have enabled BET365 to flourish haven’t seeping into the running of the club. Not all would be relevant of course, but good business practices, good structures and good governance are universal.

Yes apart from that Our starting XI was massively weaker than theirs, irrespective of League positions. We had the rub of the green with our first goal but it came from a nicely worked free kick. We were unlucky with their penalty. Once we equalised and made changes I felt we took the game to them far more and the confidence was visible. We very nearly scored a third before they did. I went to bed feeling better than I thought I would. Bring on the Derby game.

You are bang on Prestwich but so is Pavel and the comment he makes regarding us always being behind the curve and the changes half hearted / badly implemented is relevant to your last line. How we performed up until last season was fundamentally down to over estimating the ability of the demoted squad to go straight back up and blowing all that money on a futile attempt to bounce back. The owners realised this when they sacked Rowett and throughout that period we were downsizing and just trying to stay up. What we didn't do over that period was restructure. We wasted two seasons making a complete pigs ear of moving from an outdated god manager model to a modern SD/HC model. The new structure has been in place less than a year and we already have the setback od sacking a HC because we got the SD/HC appointments back to front. So you are right - both posters have a point. We've ballsed it up but now we have committed to the SD/HC model we have to give it time to bed in and that means yet another survival season. Changing direction yet again really isn't going to make the situation any better and it's clear as day we are still nowhere near a side capable of getting promoted and if we did given the state of development of the squad we would get annihilated in the Premier League.

I 100% share pavel's and everyone's concerns about our current predicament and some of the bad decision making over the years.
The right manager, the right recruitment, the right environment for players to flourish and a big dollop of good luck along the way are what's required, when all come together at the same time then you see the benefits like we did under Macari, Pulis and to a lesser extent Hughes. But there are no guarantees and it's bloody difficult especially when your trying to right the wrongs of the past......

I wholeheartedly agree, my worry is that John Coates will just rip it up and start again with the next style/model if this doesn't work. I fear that he'd hit the panic button in December and go back to a god manager model, god only knows who he'd bring in to implement it too. No doubt there'd be a very public chase and ultimate rejection from Moyes and we'd be left with another Paul Lambert style appointment.

Dave to be fair , He’s already said it was die to the 10 men with Junior off the pitch In a broader commentary he also mentioned Koumas. Things aren't as we would like them to be but we really need to be careful not to be on a downer about absolutely everything just for the sake of it. It's not Pelach's fault what has gone on before. He needs a bit of time and we simply have to play our part, however sceptical we may be. Agree. However, he seems to be another bloke who is not so sure in his conviction, or just naive. His tactics and decision making thus far have not inspired me. I am still struggling to understand his philosophy. I have stopped listening to his pre-match interviews. To quote my American friends.. "it's just word salad". I remain sceptical.
