That’s quite a stretch. We’ve lost 1 in 7 and whilst he’s had to make saves, tonight is the busiest he’s been and it’s the exact same game he had against us for Rotherham - it’s what good keepers do. We are starting to defend and attack much better as a team as far as I can tell and although the midfield is hardly a robust one, it allows us to be better when we move through the pitch. Might be a bit open at times but it works both ways. We won the game tonight when he changed to 4-2-3-1, as was the case on Saturday. Maybe the changing of formations is all part of the master plan and that’s why I’m not a trendy football coach. I’m not necessarily complaining, I do think it’s an objective fact though that the defence and midfield are paper thin, through the amount of shots we concede. The point about this is he clearly can react and be pragmatic tactically and he's willing to adapt. I.e. he has a plan - he is also able to change the plan if it's not working. We've really struggled with this under previous managers. If it means we grind out more results like this, them I'm all for it. Point being - Bristol City... I know we were 2 up and a draw was bitterly disappointing, but other seasons we would have lost that for sure. Derby... one where we were on top but could easily have seen us drawing, but this time snuck a late winner. Blackburn... won a game we would normally have lost. The CM situation has looked really bad, but has the potential to be a different story after the international break with Seko getting more game time and Lawal nearing fitness, it looks a much happier picture.... and hopefully means no more Thompson. Being able to rotate and flex between Lawal, Burger, Seko and Moran sounds very promising.

I'm very happy to win, but it's another game with 20+ shots and 2.5 xG conceded. We can't get away with it forever. True, but I'd rather it be this way around than the opposite, in the short term.

Still lots of questions but some promising signs.
Add in Lawal and Gallagher and hopefully we look a bit more complete.

He needs a transfer window or 2.
This squad is not as good as what Walter’s thinks.
I have confidence we are going in the right direction.

Every year the same 'he needs two windows'. I think we've been unlucky or perhaps ill-advised re Gallagher and Lawal (plus Pearson), but a lot of teams who outperform us each season have 'worse' squads. I do think we need some players in January but if this guy is such a good coach I think he should be able to improve what we've got before tearing things up and starting again. He's hopefully got the message re starting Phillips, now (e.g.) can he get Tezgel and Sidibe performing well enough to start games more often? Will Burger and Junho get back to their best, or better? Above all, in terms of tactics not players, how can we set up such that we don't get fucked every time we give the ball away? It's going to happen if we play bravely, but we need to stop shipping so many clear chances.

Makes the work he’s done so far even more impressive.

It's not perfect on the pitch by any means but he does seem to be instilling a resilience to the team that has been lacking, as well as a harmonious dressing room. These things are not to be sniffed at, on the footballing side I think we will improve.
Cannon is working really hard and looking a goal threat even when the opportunities aren't coming thick and fast, it's not completely clicking for Burger but his body language is much improved and he looks to be enjoying his football again, he was excellent last night in the second half after a ropey first half. He's also finishing games! Tchamadeu has looked like the player we all thought he could be in the last few games, his confidence must be sky high. For me there's lots of little signs that the manager is building something good here........

Makes the work he’s done so far even more impressive. Lawal has never played higher than League One and Gallagher has a lot to prove. Gallagher definitely should be a squad player. And Lawal for now too. But who knows how good he can be? There’s a lot of pressure on a bloke that failed at Celtic.

Obviously what happens on the pitch is what matters most, but I love the way he comes across in interviews. Much easier to back a manager who comes across as a decent, driven person.

I liked how he'd quite obviously allowed a midget to pin on his poppy last night.

Xg means fuck all , far too much attention is paid to it . The only thing that matters is putting the ball in the net .

I’m really finding it hard to take to the bloke as at the end of the day it’s a results based business, far from impressed with what I’ve seen so far.
We can’t keep conceding dozens of shots per game, last ditch tackles and obviously super Vik coming to the rescue umpteen times per game.
We need a clear long term objective and not something bodged together week after week

And we have 12 points from our last 7 league games by the way.......

They won't have done their homework to counter us. They won't have trained and coached all week and they all have rubbish players making them easy to beat. Is this how you see it?

The more we discuss it the more impressed with the manager I’m becoming.

He's getting results despite us being very light in midfield which is impressive in itself. If he had a midfield he might have a bit more control in games but for now we look like a team that has goals in it but could get hammered also. Goals win games and we could have scored more last night. I like him, the players seem to like him and once our championship Pep gets the players he needs on the pitch playing his way we could start looking the real deal. I'm quite positive he's going to be good for us

Alongside Johansson they were the two players brought in to fill two gaping holes in our squad and judging by the money we paid were definitely seen as starters rather than squad players. Good though Seko is, his physique prevents him from being the beast of a defensive midfield destroyer we need.

He’s been getting results…. Sure RS stated last night we hadn’t scored away from home since beating Plymouth and if we hadn’t had scored last light we’d have equaled a record going back to 1997 Plymouth was the only goal we'd scored away in the league all season until last night. So we were hardly prolific under the previous manager either.

After all the negativity around Pelach's appointment, he's really starting to impress. A manager who actually plays his best team, no square pegs in round holes, values work ethic, makes subs that make sense and is willing to stick with the SAME team. All very refreshing to see.
Fantastic win last night.
