Schumacher had to re-apply for his job this summer… clearly had little faith in him! Blimey. Do you know what more it entailed? Was it just a formality or was it a full on thing? Crazy that we’d do this and then sack him just after the window has closed, thereby giving anyone coming in another excuse for the January transfer window of it not being his team etc.

Nothing much shocks me about this club anymore, but this has well and truly raised the bar!

If you didn’t suspect this was the likely outcome when Walters was appointed full time I fear your instincts are incredibly poor. Probably a foolish move involving you in a thread but what makes you say that? Genuinely interested. I’ve predicted it since Walters was confirmed. People wanted hard evidence that their views did not align but often gut instinct should not be so easily dismissed.

The timing of the decision is madness. Give him the whole of the summer, then sack him after 5 games. If they weren’t convinced he was the man, then they should’ve let him go in the summer.
The fact that he’s gone after 5 games leaves us in abit of a mess. Need to get a new manager in quickly, otherwise this could make it a very long hard season.
Long term though I think it’s probably the best decision. Schumacher seems like a decent man, but large chunks of what he’s produced have been absolutely dire & I was struggling to see how he’d be successful at this club.

I'm amazed at the response to this. Does anyone actually think we've played well yet this season? I think we've been absolutely dire. Previously we've complained that we wait until it's too late to get rid of managers who are not getting results and now we strike early and you're all up in arms!

Look no further than Walters in my opinion. I've not spoken to him yet, and won't be divulging any information. All I know is that I'm done.

Maybe we needed an exciting young team in place to attract a top manager. We have that, maybe that’s the tipping point?

Somebody has been lined up for a while I guess. Time will tell whether it's a bad decision but it's ordinary behaviour by a club who has stuck by managers in the past. We need a foreign manager. Carlos Corberán

After the initial shock and disbelief maybe this is the time we say enough is enough, no more mediocrity, look at the man in the mirror and make the change - you better make it right. We’ve not been like this before as far as I can remember.
I think this is kind of a wake up call to all teams in the EFL. We’re Stoke City and we’re a big team, we don’t settle for poor performances. We’re heavily backed and we can and will be cut throat. No more Mr Fucking Nice Guys this end, if we want to compete for the top you’ve got to make the tough decisions rather than coasting along.

Hearing the names Graham Potter and Carlos Corberans name in this thread is genuinely laughable, why on earth would any reputable manager come to this sh*t show. Also aren’t these pair ‘managers’ I doubt they would come in under a ‘head coach’ capacity… dream on

Mental decision. 5 games into a season. Its JC who needs sacking. Its like an episode of Succession. Romulus is running the show..

This is great news as we would not be going anywhere with this manager
BUT this time they need to get it right
No more fishing in the same stagnant pond
Go and get a proper continental manager for Christ’s sake

For anyone willing to reserve judgment and thinking we’ve made a good decision. Look at the decisions this club has made for the last decade, we’re fucked. By the same definition, his appointment was a shit decision (which it was). It was never, ever going to work.

There are about 15 teams in the Championship whose fans think their teams should be around the top 6. Guess what most of them will be wrong.
Since relegation we have been an utter shambles and I thought we were starting to make progress. Sacking managers every 12 months is a recipe for disaster especially when it is done during the season.
We never learn.
