What’s funny? We literally signed him as a 16 year old. Which is fine. But is stretching it in terms of product of our academy is it not? It did cross my mind, recruiting Premier youth products, even for a fee, with an eye on fast tracking them into the first team? Do fees paid for 'academy' players come under FFP? 🤔

The running of it doesn’t I believe. So you’d think this would come into that? It’s a good ploy anyway. You have the ones we’ve had for ages and then ones like Dixon. I think ideally you’d want more that have been here since they were 7 but don’t limit yourself.

It’s not many I’d suspect but not many have been as good as Sidibe. Why don’t people want to see that he’s as good as the senior pros already? Maybe if you weren't like this with every 17 year old that's been close to pulling on the red and white stripes people might be inclined to listen. This thread is about Jaden Dixon, a 17 year old who looks to have a bright future at our football club, now can you do one and spout your drivel elsewhere? Maybe bore the Southampton fans about Baylee Dipepa or join the Walsall board for Simkin and Lowe? Honestly, this happens practically with every thread about a younger player. We get Bayern on telling anyone who’ll listen (and those that don’t) how it’s fucking obvious they’re the best thing since sliced bread and how the manager or anyone else that disagrees is deluded / an idiot / insert other reasons why he’s right. Honestly think he should get a job in an academy, clearly is passionate about young footballers, but does spam this board a lot and it can get very tedious.

Yeah hes kind of bolted out from nowhere from the academy and looks a proper player. Thats why League Cup games are so important - to give younger players a chance to show the manager they can step up. I think Rose is currently injured? But I would keep Dixon ahead of him in the centre halves list of players. It looks like Gibson is going to be a regular sicknote as well I think Central league involvement will also give youngsters a good grounding of the "grown mans game"

He hasn’t come from nowhere really. When we signed him it was always said it was with a pathway to the first team in mind.
It stood out.
Just good to see we weren’t bullshitting.
Depending on what happens injury wise I think a loan in Jan will probably be good for him.
And then next year you’d hope he’d be ready to contend for a starting spot.

Hold on You can’t say that we shouldn’t be loaning players in as it blocks the pathways of our youngsters and that we shouldn’t be helping other clubs out then saying one of our talented youngsters should be loaned to another club in order to aid our players progress That sounds like fucked up logic to me

To be brought on at that stage of the game and deal with it as well as he did is a testament to him and the manager.

He's a good young lad and shows plenty of promise. I don't think he needs to go out on loan. Whenever he's played for us he's done very little wrong.
OS.

The only time I can see him getting regular good minutes is if Junior gets injured and Schumacher doesn’t want to play Gooch there. Coming on for 5 minutes here and there is fine until Jan but then a league one loan ready for next season surely would make more sense to see how good he really is?

The block he made at the end was very calm. Yes it led to a corner but he was close enough to block, yet not too tight for a possible penalty with a handball or player going past him. The number of times I’ve seen us cock that situation up….he did well in the few minutes he was on.

No, it’s simple. Laurent isn’t and hasn’t been good enough for us. Sidibe had shown he was better and should have been playing over him. It was poor management. There’s no pressure. But he’s a very good player and better than people want to believe I think. And why October? He’s ready now. He was ready a while a go. He may be ready ability wise and I’m sure the head coach and everyone at the club knows it. However, the simple fact is that he’s 17. He’s still developing mentally and physically and that needs to be done properly- as with all the young players. What has age got to do with it? A 17 y/o recently won the Euros as a regular starter! If you’re good enough, you’re old enough as far as I’m concerned.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t play but I do think it’s less risky to play very young players in offensive positions because they have less responsibility.
