Junior is a rwb. He’s said so in previous interviews. He can play either side if needed but more suited to the right. He definitely isn’t a wing back because the worst parts of his game are his touch, passing, control and crossing. He has the pace and power to become an okay defender but is lacking on awareness and positioning. He needs a loan to League 1 to a team with a good defensive coach and we need 1 or 2 right backs in. Original post makes out he’s shoehorned in at rwb. Colchester’s local rag literally confirms it in its headline. Gooch is an ok player for the squad, and he shouldn’t play unless we have injuries or need to see a game out. The scary thing with Junior and Bocat is they are the fullbacks who we are expecting to start the majority of our games this season. Gooch tracked back, but his defending one on one was awful. In addition his positioning for their second was even worse! He has got so little quality that we must play other players. Who could have had a worse game than he had on Saturday?

Gooch on the left wing can never happen again, when I saw the team I was disappointed in it and after 2 minutes you could see it was damaging us.
I'm one of the people who think Junho should be on the left, I don't share the opinion that he should be playing as a 10.
Tchamadeu is a major concern, I want to be lenient on him but he looks a complete liability right now.

Stevens is our best defender by some distance. It was no coincidence our form picked up when he came into the side in spring. His problem is that he's injured more than half the time. Hardly played a game for Sheff U in the 2 years leading up to his friend bringing him in here. How old is he now 34/35? - might well be our best defender, but that is a reflection on how bad our recruitment has been over the last decade now, do we really want to be bringing him back into the fold at his age. Needs moving on for me Needs moving on sounds so easy. No one signs an injury prone 34yo on championship wages from a club. So you want to pay up the rest of his contract, or what? Even if we loan him out we'll be paying the majority of his wages. He has a contract for this season, and it would be foolish not to use him while we have him if he's our best defender. Bocat will get better, but we still need a backup or we'll see Thompson or Gooch at LB again. And we all saw how good a defender he is yesterday. As for our recruitment, yeah it's been shite for years. Apart from the few good ones we've signed from the guy who's now at Hull. But making it a priority to get rid of Stevens is ridiculous IMO. Edit: And oh, he played 34 matches for SheffUtd in 21/22 and 22/23. Not that much, but not "hardly played" either.

People keep slating Junior but the very first attack was a simple ball down the flank, a brilliant cross into the danger area just begging to be attacked. That was the last we saw of him out wide. Both he and Bocat are being hung out to dry with this ludicrous inverted full back bollocks that just doesn't work with anything other than top, top level players. Just build a system that allows them to defend their penalty area with a sensible line and either support their wide man or overlap in attack. It isn't rocket science. We aren't reinventing the wheel here. I feel really, really sorry for Junior. Bocat will be next for the fans ire and it's nowt to do with him and his ability either. We don't play with inverted fullbacks Absolute myth Last week we played with a narrow back 4 with no protection from the wide players This week we played 352 out of possession and 433 in possession with no protection from the wide players Gooch had a very poor game and Junior got beat easy too Bocat at LWB would have made more sense with Phillips or Dixon in a back 3 The only time we played 352 was in the last 10 minutes. Wilmot Gibson Bocat at the back with Mmaee and Ennis up top . Which match were you watching ? We played 4231 for the majority of the match but the 3 ( manhoef Junho Gooch) were narrow which was the root of the problem. Koumas in the lone role was excellent and one wonders whether we need a Cannon or Stansfield after that display

Most fullbacks would look vulnerable if the opposition could double up on them for most of the game. One on one he is fine.

What’s gone wrong? A year ago the experts on here were claiming him to be the answer to all our problems and telling us that signing young players like this was the way forward.

Junior had a good game last night at Middlesbrough. Played more of a conventional full back role, which suits him far better.

The difference between Junior and Gooch is that Junior has got time and the potential to develop, learn, adapt and progress, for Gooch that ship has sailed.

I have a sneaky feeling Junior will be up there with a few others being touted as player of the season

I have a sneaky feeling Junior will be up there with a few others being touted as player of the season Loads of time for him to improve at everything good turn of pace also he’s managed to put quite a few good dangerous balls into the box. I still can’t help thinking he’s only a stride away from a major clanger though.

We ain’t gonna win much with Thompson, Laurent and Gooch in the side. How long will it take for SS to realise this?Maybe he does realise this.
