Cundle koumas Moran and now Phillips,we must be doing something right as a club for our club to be trusted with these upcoming young lads. Giving them gametime and paying them?

Should be a good signing this and gives us genuine height at the back. Good age too.

I’m actually very impressed by this, looks a very solid CB for this level regardless of his current age.
If we can just get a striker, and sell a couple of midfielders… I’ll be the happiest with a transfer window in a long time.

Good signing, hopefully moves Wilmot to back up or at least gives some completion for his starting spot.

Three at the back beckons . Wilmot Gibson Phillips I hope not. 3 at the back for Stoke has only ever produced the most boring, dire and negative football I have seen.

Three at the back beckons . Wilmot Gibson Phillips We have no forwards to play 5 at the back. Unless the formation is 5 5 0

Pleased with this one, think we’ve got a good one here. Agree. Solid at this level and can cover all back 4 positions. Expect he will start as RB

Looks a good safe signing, hopefully he can be that pace we've missed at the back.

I know it was only Carlisle but I was very impressed with Dixon at RB. For that reason alone I'd have him on the bench for when Tchamadeu is having a stinker. Was very good against Carlisle, but didn't impress me in his cameo against Watford, almost caused a penalty. Needs to build some muscle, still bit too lightweight for Champo, but that will come as he gets older. Definitely one for the future and perhaps a good back up from the bench already.

Giving them gametime and paying them? It's more than that. We're clearly trusted and viewed as a good pathway by prem clubs. It's a very good thing to have. It's part of it sure, but not the fundamental reason. Like, pathway to what? progression? If so - you only really get that through gametime, and thats the bit that remains at the foundation of loaning players out. You can say we're trusted etc and yeah maybe, but I dont think Wolves kept loaning players to us specifically on the trust gained from Chiquinho for example. They did it because we said we'd pay and play them.

Someone asked for the Argyle view... So liked him....not the finished article by a long way but powerful and composed. Good recovery speed ( and he needed it a few times in our defence last season) There was talk of us going back for him before Wayne arrived....also Devine ...they were Foster additions but now we play a back four not sure we needed another centre half having bought Szuchs. Has a mistake in him and can lose concentration. Also had. tendency to run out of steam around 70 minutes.....cramped a couple of times and maybe struggled with the pace of the game at this level. Better in the three than a two, but we wouldn't have complained had he come back . I think if we had to choose between the two we would want Devine but thats more about improving the miffield than a criticism of Phillips. Expect him to be MOM in about ten days then

Ange Postecoglou on Ashley Phillips's loan to Stoke City: "I think it's a really good loan for him going to Stoke. With the younger players it is a balance between if we keep them in the squad, are they going to play meaningful minutes? And with Ash, we didn't think that would be the case. He played the back end of last year fairly regularly at Plymouth and we feel like he needs to play more football. Centre back is a trickier position. Sometimes players need more game time to develop and improve rather than just training. We felt it was the best decision for him."

Do you think that when Ben Wilmott ‘Liked’ the clubs Insta post about Ashley Philips signing, that he actually meant it🤣 With us only have 2 fit senior cbs including Wilmot. He won't be feeling his place is under threat. Phillips will probably start on the bench at weekend. Will be a case of him earning his place as with any new signing surely

i imagine he’ll be on the bench tomorrow but can’t see Spurs letting come if he’s not going play most games so must be a Wilmot replacement Strange there doesn't seem to be any indication in what Postecoglu said that he'd expect him to be a starter. I think that's just wishful thinking on behalf of a few on here who can't find a decent word about one of our better players.
