Surely this one is just purely seen as versatile cover, which is absolutely fine if that's the case. You need that in a squad.

Looks like a DM. Though the standard isn’t great where he’s been playing he looks one hell of a player technically when you look at the way the ball sticks to his feet in tight areas.
It’s a gamble but one worth taking for me.
Only issue for me is how will he get a visa?

Looks like a DM. Though the standard isn’t great where he’s been playing he looks one hell of a player technically when you look at the way the ball sticks to his feet in tight areas. According to that GBE calculator, he only gets 4 points - so nowhere near the 15 needed
But we've got more than wild card open, haven't we? So not an issue anymore

You'd have to say he's being brought into to play central midfield alone, wouldn't you? Can't see the point of bringing him in and using a wild card slot, which is like gold dust, unless we see him as starter-calibre and potentially the Thompson replacement. But that'd be a hell of a call based on his CV

They should be looking at the best U23 centre back in Japan and Korea and using it on him.

Could actually be a really sensible signing if we're losing DJ and/or another in there.
Should be fairly cheap, is a bit older and wiser so would hopefully settle a bit quicker than a young player, will work 'arrd on and off the pitch, covers a couple of positions and won't kick up a stink if he doesn't play every week.
Frontale are a good club to be fishing in as well. They won the league 3 years out of 4 from 2018 and are usually up there (this season being the exception) so they have good players. Mitoma came from there to Brighton for example.

I really don't understand the argument that we need cover.
I would describe most of our existing players are 'cover' players, Gooch, Wilmot, Baker, Ennis, Johnson, Stevens, Thompson, Junior, Dixon etc. We desperately need players who are much better than these cover players, ones who are good enough for regular first team and a realistic promotion push. Signings that make our existing players ok for cover.

Hmm, looking at his stats I'm getting the same unconvinced Mehdi Leris feeling. To be fair, I think those Wikipedia stats are out of date. He's played all but one league match this season (25) and played 28 games last season. Was also there in 2022 when they finished 2nd in the league but only played 13 games. Definitely feels like someone is on their way out of our midfield though if we are seriously in for him. For some reason Baker seems to be in danger from SS......mistakenly! |

Baker is a funny one, because if you look at our first 2 games it is Baker who has been the initiator of the most decisive moments in those games. It was really good play and movement by him for the Coventry goal, and a lovely free kick move initiated by him for the first Carlisle goal. These are important moments in games that others in our squad struggle to provide. |

Looks more of a playmaker to me from these clips. He looks to have good close control and passing skills, not really a tackler or crosser. And his shots on goal (except the FK) were kinda meh. Also there's something wierd with the tempo of the games in the clips. Due to artificial grass, maybe? |
