Perhaps maybe something to do with the players they've identified in their respective roles. What's your metric?? Darnborough when he was at Norwich signed Ben Godfrey from non-league York City for £100k and they sold him for £25m 3 seasons later. If profit is your metric it doesn't get much better than that. If bringing players in to fit into a particular style of play and improve the team as a whole is the metric then Dublin was part of a team that failed miserably under Alex Neil. Ultimately the Sporting Director, Head of Recruitment and coaching staff all have to be in sync for a club to move forwards..............

So the other 15 rubbing rags were down to someone else? You can make a case for a decent chunk of them being others picks, Johnson for example clearly the managers choice. Johnson Pearson Gooch Rose Stevens Clarke Absolute minimum signings made at the request of AN.

Amazing how simple and quick that battle lines are drawn and extremes come out even with a relatively simple and straightforward debate like this. Nobody has said Jared is a god. He was simply a front face to a brave new world we attempted to go down last summer where we ventured into Europe to try and get value for money, sign younger players with sell on value etc. He did that and in Manhoef, Burger and Bae he found 3 in the space of 12 months. That level of relative success is highly unusual in the Championship, at the price point we paid for them and also given the fact we brought so many in at once. If he was given the time to bed in and approach this window, where less players were needed I reckon you'd have seen similar success. The club, to me, went down the wrong path by removing him and should have given the process more time to refine it, learn from the mistakes of last season and allowed to take root. I think people are rightly pissed off at this news and it caps for me what has been so far on the face of it a very frustrating, if not retrograde summer. Each to their own though. I would add to that, that the so called flops will still likely produce a profit or even breakeven with a much smaller wage than the British counterparts. We need to also remember Jared is more of a stat man. He identifies, and then the so called football brains assess and see if his stats convert to a good footballer. The Vidigal's etc were deemed good enough by a whole team, not just Jared. I also think some of the flops of last season were AN signings. Anyway he has gone now, lets just hope the club know what they are doing and Lee comes good, lets judge him at the end of the window.

So if you have two of those already in situ one having been appointed in the last couple of months the other for less than a year do you appoint an SD to complement them or allow him to decide upon a new direction??

Well, those 1.3M is peanuts whem Burger and Bae have had bids or are linked for £8M+ each. Those who think every signing should be a smash hit know nothing about football. And those who think Jared Dublin is the second coming of Damien Commoli know even less. I didn't even know who the fuck Damien Commoli is until now, and his hit rate seems just like JDs except at a level where we'd never afford any of the players he's found. Exept perhaps under Hughes.

To be fair to Jared he came very close to helping AN deliver relegation. And that was in just one season.
It’ll be interesting to see if he can help get Hull over the line and into League One.
Go for it Jazza.

I’m not sure it’s reasonable to completely absolve the former Head of Recruitment of blame for a large number of acquisitions, purely because they’re domestic not overseas.
They may have been initiated by another person in the building, but I’d be stunned and a bit worried if the HoR didn’t have a sign-off on them too.

I think people are rightly pissed off at this news and it caps for me what has been so far on the face of it a very frustrating, if not retrograde summer. Each to their own though. After relegation, Plan A was to sign the most expensive British-based players money could buy. It was a disaster. Plan B was to sign more British-based players who were not quite as expensive. It was a disaster. Plan C was to sign the cheapest British-based players available with our dwindling pool of money. It was a disaster. Plan D was for Jared to find a few hidden gems from across the world, while Alex Neil hand-picked a few British players from his old clubs. The Jared bit produced a few exceptional results and some not so good. The Alex Neil bit was a disaster. Now we have decided to ditch the one approach that had any positive results from the past 7 years, and focus instead on the approach that has produced disasters and nothing else. I think that's why some people didn't want to get rid of Jared, but good luck to those people that are happy he's gone.

Got to say I am a bit baffled by the anti Jared posts. He was briefed with bringing in massive overhaul of the squad. So just by weight of numbers some will be shite. But come on since we have been relegated none of the recruitment team have produced players of the calibre of Burger Bae and Manhoef who will all go on to geneate serious income when sold. The change in transfer policy under Martin was well overdue and their are hints that we have returned to the old tried and tested champ players and loans with no sell on value. it really is odd. If the current recruitment team deliver similar players to Jared's then i will be happy. But not holding my breath

Given how last season went I don’t get the clamour and hype for Dublin.
I also don’t really understand the negativity around Darnborough given the window hasn’t ended yet, but also we’ll have probably had our main targets identified well in advance of his arrival here.

Mainly because the ones for the here and now were so fucking shit.

So again all unknowable. The facts are the results. And our results were resoundingly shite while he was here and his players were a big part of that shite. Personally I have no feelings of great affection for Dublin, Darnborough or any HoR. They’re a necessary part of the modern football business but they are very much background operators. I really don’t give a shit who we sign, how we sign them, where they come from……if it gives us entertainment and results that’s all I really care about. So Dublin, Darnborough, whoever…..just give us more Bae Jun Ho and less Ciaran Clark.

Another OTT meltdown, though not quite up there with when Travers was recalled
Dublin was getting slated on here not that long back in much the same way as Martin. Now hes being made out as the next Dan Ashworth
Letting him go may turn out to be a mistake, we just dont know. Likewise Darnborogh may turn out to be the business, again we dont know
