Gutted about this. There's a lad in the under 12s whose path's being blocked now. 😂🙌

Great effort by the club.
Got the striker 4 or 5 other clubs all wanted.

You need 4 strikers even if you only usually play 1.
You need the option of different types of players. You need fresh legs after 60 minutes. 1 in 4 will probably be injured, ill, tired, or otherwise indisposed due to say family commitment, international duty, etc
Personally I prefer 2 strikers on the pitch, although it seems unfashionable these days. Gayle only scored lots of goals when playing with another striker for example.
FInally all players eventually "lose it" and cease to be effective. It can happen at any age or after an injury or long lay off. It's as much a mental thing as physical. Bony "lost it" sat on the bench for a year at ManC. I'm a strong believer in you have got to keep playing actively to retain form, but that does not mean having just 2 strikers. Top managers often rotate their players to keep them fresh and hungry. (Crouch said he hated being rotated at Liverpool but understood why.) I suspect a number of our striker signings had "lost it" before they arrived at Stoke. How many of our strikers in recent seasons have dropped out of the squad because they were just not good enough? It happens to all sportsmen.
You need 4 strikers.
Welcome Tom Cannon. Hopefully a booming success.

Regardless of our now substantial depth upfront and the playing time available to all of them, if its true that Cannon has been our main target for ST all window, then it can only be a massive positive that we’ve managed to get it done. Schumacher will know him from Everton Walter’s best mate is Huth who is loan manager at Everton. If we hadn’t it would have been a huge blot. I think I’d have preferred Stansfield but if Cannon has been our no1 all window, Ill have to trust the transfer team. Not for £10m plus I wouldn’t.

Cannon added: "Stoke City is a massive club, with an exciting young team and I'm absolutely delighted to be joining. "I've had loads of messages from the supporters. I'm feeling the love from them already and being appreciated at a Club is massive. I'm hoping I can get off the mark as soon as possible and repay them with goals. "What they will see is me working my socks off and being up for it, and when I get an opportunity, I can put it away."

If Tom Cannon wanted to be here, he’d be here by now. Can’t believe there’s 20 pages of this, it’s not happening!!! That’s not how transfers work. It’s transfer deadline week if he’s in demand his club will use every minute of it to get the best deal for themselves. This aged well 😆

This was surprise to me. Did not think we'd would participate and even win the battle of his signature.
Hope he delivers too!

Alan Nixon Leicester City striker Tom Cannon will be in a three-club race if Steve Cooper fires the gun for an auction. Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is keen on Cannon after losing Oli McBurnie but he faces a mighty tussle for the new Republic of Ireland cap. West Brom and Stoke City are also battling for Cannon’s signature on loan as they all wait on a decision from the Foxes. Baggies are keen on the hit man who hardly figured for Leicester after they bought him from Preston a year ago. But the Potters are major rivals and may even get closest to the deal if they can offer Leicester a larger chunk of his wages. Cannon wants to play so that is also a factor and Blades will have to convince him that he starts.

Great work by the club to get this one over the line given the other teams reported to be in for him. The scouse connection. The billionaire's money connection more like. 🤔

Have we bought or loaned him ? Just don't pay attention to SSN or BBC who have it down as "undisclosed". We aren't Chelsea so they haven't paid attention. Stoke and Leicester both confirmed its a loan

I'd have preferred Stansfield but clearly he was never a possibility now he's gone to Birmingham for £10m. With FFP we can't compete with that kind of competition and obviously Birmingham benefit from some loophole where for some reason they're allowed to spend more money now they've got relegated. He's been one of the most in demand strikers in the division and we've managed to sign him. We've done really well. Regardless of how he does on the pitch, the recruitment team have done their job well and landed the manager's top target.
