Why is there this sudden belief that he’s going to turn into a championship Kylian Mbappe? Many years have taught us he’s in the Kenwyne Jones mould, has three good games a season and vanishes for the rest if he doesn’t get injured. He’ll end up at Derby. Exactly. Tyrese was at the club for 8 years and made 164 appearances. That’s enough of a sample size to make a sound judgement. He might go onto score plenty elsewhere if he manages to stay fit and has the side built around him but realistically I just can’t see him staying fit for an entire season. Pinning your hopes on him and building the side around him is a massive gamble and one we couldn’t really afford to take.

Let be honest if Tye goes to a team that plays a system that will suit him hes going score going on 20, but in a Schumacher system he's not going be the player we need Let's be honest Campbell has never looked like a 20 goal striker and the chances of him becoming one is miniscule He did the season we were flying high and he got the serious injury (2020?). Truth be told, I don't think he'll reach that level again. It's up to him to prove us wrong though

It’s disingenuous to just subtract games he doesn’t start when measuring his worth, as 1) there’s a reason he doesn’t start those games, and 2) the average football fan won’t go into other people’s starting games info etc when looking at comparable players (as such, the stat is less relatable). Starting less than 100 games in 5 years is a good enough reason to not renew as well.

For most of his time at the club,we have had very poor squads,he looked really good when paired with Fletcher under MON.

Also you want a striker on the bench to guarantee that he will effect the game which in general Campbell didn't do when he came on.

It's up to him to prove us wrong though Isn't part of the problem with the view of Tyrese that his best performances for us came during lockdown when the grounds were empty. If there had been fans present in the months leading up to his injury, would he have been a more popular player?

not to much but i’d want better , they cost a lot We all want better. Better will cost £7million plus. I personally think to sign someone capable of playing anywhere across the front three thats capable of scoring with his left and right peg will result in a minimum of £4million of the budget gone - and thats just to sign someone of a similar standard. We'll see. he’s not that standard though , league would suit him best , was it 3 goals last season

I think you need 4 strikers? Two maybe starters and two back up? Surely Campbell as back up was better than Ennis? We have 2 back up strikers we just need 2 starters

I was actually trying to highlight the point that his lack of game time and his injury record is a sound reason for parting company. In that sense he is not reliable. But I also thought it is disingenuous to judge his scoring record over 8 years when I assume most people wouldn't be expecting a 16 year old to be banging them in for us on a regular basis!

His record is close to 1 in 180 minutes with a higher output when played wide than centrally. It is unlikely we can afford to buy better so we have taken a major gamble not keeping him as ine if 4 or 5 frontmen. However I like how SS has owned the decision

Even if he never became injured, he could have gotten 7 and he could have got 25. Or 18 or 12 or even 30. We'll never know. But even if you could, 7 in 19 is 16.9 in 46, that's close enough for me. And frankly better than we've had for a very long time.

You can talk about stats, number of years, saved the season, etc, but the fact is that he never put the ball in the back of the net enough times in a season. Fantastic goals, a natural ability, just didn't do it over a full season here. Good luck to him, perhaps he'll follow Sterling.

I think Schumacher is right in his interview when he says that with his attributes Campbell should be a top Championship striker but isn't and hasn't ever been. That might be the club environment, the formation the tactics but can we risk giving him another three year contract on top wages. We have two back up strikers and two young strikers, we don't want someone else who isn't producing. We want a player that we know is more likely to score twenty than two next season. It is unfortunate that this summer is the time we have to make that decision on Campbell but we have to use the chance to open up a squad place. He may well go on to prove himself with someone else next season and I hope he does. That won't mean we made the wrong decision, just that perhaps he needed pastures new to reignite the 18 year old he was.

Good luck to the lad, seems a likeable enough character, but I think it’s best to move him on. We need more goals to push on, and for me he’s just not good enough to get them. Decent player but no more than that imo. Some of the comments about him on here, you’d think we’re talking about a player that’s ripped the championship up, never thought he’s anything other than average tbh

However I like how SS has owned the decision It’s actually not statistically necessary. It’s relevant but not necessary. A lot of fans compare average across games played as it is more directly relevant to season output. There are loads of ways to spin it but really, the only thing that matters is how many goals you score in a campaign.

There’s a bit of romanticism at play here, and I agree, he hasn’t done it at Stoke, maybe he will if he gets enough games. But it isn’t with us so good luck to him. I’m intrigued to see where he’ll go. I have the thinking it’ll be rangers but who knows. *by others on here not you or I btw

You did, you said against Norwich. Did you see him against Southampton, Bristol? Yes, very good and probably nothing to do with the fact he’s looking for a new contract either at Stoke or somewhere else. It will be interesting to see where he ends up and how it goes. Pretty much the same as here I suspect, unless he drops down a division. Nobody seems to be rushing in.

His goal return isn't very good. 31 in his entire career for us. Is an ok player on his day but another one who'll be remembered as much better than he was. Sadly got an injury when playing his best but never looked like that player again

Sammie Szmodics scored 11 in 81 Championship games before this season: not very impressive. We’d have all been vey unimpressed if we’d bought him last summer.

In a team that is capable of creating chances every week for the forwards he will score a bag load. Great finishing, great feet, has that (often frustrating) greedy streak in him to want to score and can shift when he wants to.
We haven't been capable of doing that as a team since he's been in our first team though so we've never seen the most effective version of him. He's not the type to be able to dominate a game single handedly either so hasn't been able to affect enough games for us. He also drove me mad at times with being careless or sloppy, for a guy who had a good first touch it was maddening how many times he gave it away by taking his eye off the ball when he was receiving it.
Still good luck to him in my eyes, been one of the brighter players in a rough spell for me. Shades of Powell about him, a handful of moments of real brilliance and a sense of frustration at not hitting the heights they were capable of whilst here.

Carlton Morris and Adebayo's records were poor before Luton too. That's why in the pursuit of our new striker i hope we don't look too much at how many goals they've scored but instead use the data to work out how many they could score for us. It's about time we got it right and had a striker or wide player catch light and score a proper number. It could well be Million, 4 in 9 starts was a very good return for a player his age coming from another country in Jan.
