One of many players with bags of talent who Stoke made average - Baker and Laurent to that list. Do think it was time to move them all on though, not SJW type players How exactly did we make him average? Was he playing so well elsewhere that I'm not aware of ? Baker scored more goals for us than he had in his career combined in this country . Possibly had the talent to score more goals - had we got the maximum out of him - never thought we did personally

Think he'd only scored once until he arrived then had a decent run of goals and Campbell himself said he'd worked closely with him on certain aspects of his game so if anything we did the opposite. He then got the injury but this myth that he's this great striker some claimm and will score 20 plus goals we've heard on here from some is based on opinion not fact. Basically figures plucked out of the air. You could say any striker will do similar but until he does.

Yes, he was one of 4 or 5 players who hit great form under MON and helped us to survive that year, think he scored a couple in the last minutes against Sheff Wed in that boxing day game that turned our season around. I think he was decent at youth level from memory and I am sure I have just seen a vid of him on one of the other threads scoring a hat-trick for Sheff U in a friendly. Still only young and may prove you wrong yet, stats not outstanding, but I always got the feeling there was more to come from him.

Prob best all round

I think you'll find that it was players like Campbell who strolled around almost anonymously for the majority of his time here that made Stoke average. Gouranga. We have been pretty good at bringing out the shocking in players though - Delap hardly strolled around, Gayle went from being a decent striker to not being able to hit a barn door from a yard out - almost bordering on the bizarre - something in the water maybe. Turn up or f^ck off now, hopefully, with the new SJW/SS regime I don't agree, Delap was and is still young, went to Preston did nowt, hardly se the league on fire at Hull and has scored 1 goal for Ipswich, time will tell if he turns out to be any good but it wasn't Stokes fault he was shite when we had him, Gayle was past it before he came here and had hardly played in the previous 12 months for Newcastle. We have been so desperate for a good striker for years that we've hung our hopes on anyone - Afobe, Vokes, Berahino all expensive disasters. Gouranga.
