Is it not quite likely that by then they will know their fate… I.e playoffs at best…
And the temptation therefore to rest players, not go bell for leather etc?
Just a little straw I was grabbing onto earlier if the worst happens against Plymouth…

A win tonight and again on Saturday (both likely) means they will still have a chance of top two when we play so I doubt they’ll be doing us any favours If they do drop points however and they’re out of the automatic race then I’m sure they would likely rest key players
Like everything else it’s all up in the air

Soton are 4th in the form table just behind Bristol.
We are 20th.

Our only concern at Southampton is goal difference a hefty defeat would be a disaster.

Anything can happen tbh. In the 1st season under MON with 4 games to go we were still looking over our shoulder at the bottom 3 after a 5-0 thrashing by Leeds. The last 4 games included games against promotion chasing Brentford and Forest. We took 10 points from last 4 games denting Brentford’s automatic promotion hopes and destroying Forests play off place. You never know.

Just a little straw I was grabbing onto earlier if the worst happens against Plymouth… If this means all our players wearing gimp masks and chains and being whipped as they run around the edge of the pitch, then yes. The bell would obviously be a small 'safety bell' to be rung by the player if the pain was too great. So I understand from these things

The Southampton game has the potential to be an absolute nightmare for us if we don't beat Plymouth.
Ipswich 43 / 89 +32 Leicester 42 / 88 +41 ---------------------- Leeds Utd 43 / 87 +42 Southampton 42 / 84 +30
Ipswich don't play at the weekend, Leeds have a really tough game away to Middlesbrough and Leicester a tough home game against West Brom. Southampton are at Cardiff.
They could be no more than a couple of points of the automatic spots with a trip to Leicester on the Wednesday before they play us. So if we want to go to St Mary's with them taking their foot off the gas it's vital that Leeds and Leicester do the business over the weekend and Southampton slip up against Cardiff and/or Leicester.
Just get the job done on Saturday Stoke FFS.......

Could go to the wire and I don't think Soton will for one minute be looking to rest any players, especially as the top three are currently playing pass-the-hot-potato. They'll probably eyeing those choking and swiftly stealing an automatic promotion.

My immediate thoughts are we are likely to get trounced. I'm quite pessimistic at present but I don't think we'll get trounced I think we'll be violated in every orifice if we play like we did at Swansea

Doesn't matter either way, they're better than us all over the pitch.
Our fate will be decided through both of our home games and other results.

Thoughts ?
Yes ,we will either get absolutely mullered ( likely) or pull off a ridiculously unexpected 1-0 win ( extremely unlikely)

There was a point where it looked like Southampton would have nothing to play for and might rest players against us with an eye on the playoffs but they are in decent form and very much back in the mix for automatic promotion. Looks like a regulation loss to me. We need the points from the Plymouth and Bristol games.

I've mentally written this one off as a possible source of points whatever the situation proves to be.

Will hinge on that Leicester game. If Leicester win, it'll most likely put paid to their auto hopes and we could end up with a deflated Southampton side. Either way, lets get it done this weekend. Win and we are virtually over the line.

Win and we are virtually over the line. Agree that the way to avoid stressing over the Southampton game is to beat Plymouth and then it’s done. If we fail to do that, the Southampton game wont be one for the faint hearted!

1 point secures safety for us, they lost today and have Leicester midweek so could be out of the automatic promotion race when they play us.
We get a full weeks rest so could go with an unchanged 11?

Not expecting anything from this, hope we go there and aim to keep things tight first half then play with a bit more freedom in the second.
Play like we did against Leeds basically, but hopefully with a bit more in the final third.
