They made a record loss the year after they won the Cup.
If I remember rightly, playing in the UEFA Cup is usually a loss making exercise. I think that was true when we were in Europe in 2011, I've no idea if it's still true.
If so, you work hard and qualify for Europe, you then have to bolster your squad with better players in great volume to cope with all of the extra fixtures, you make a loss on every game, have the additional extra cost of transfers and wages and then get thumped by the League's rules because you dared to be successful!

No points deduction this season according to Rob Dorset on Sky. Seems wrong to let them get promoted only to be hit with points deduction and certain relegation it was a premier league offence

It's all getting a bit ridiculous really. Am I wrong in thinking that things like this used to be quite a rare occurrence? If so is this due to the new rules just being far too obtuse or is it more related to the apparently increasing poor ownership & greed of clubs?

It's difficult to have sympathy with the clubs because at the end of the day they have unfair advantage over those who do follow the rules.

If so is this due to the new rules just being far too obtuse or is it more related to the apparently increasing poor ownership & greed of clubs? It is because the big clubs have ploughed ridiculous amounts of money into their clubs and in order to compete the smaller clubs are throwing silly money they can't afford in order to compete. The rules are there to discourage clubs from being reckless and going bankrupt. If clubs breach the rules they are threatened with sanctions such as a points deduction. Hopefully this is sufficient to change their behaviour and avert bankruptcy. It acts like a buffer inna railway siding. If the buffer is there there is still a horrible crash but no where near as bad as it would have been if it wasn't there. Remove the rules and the big boys will drive the smaller clubs into bankruptcy without batting an eyelid. It's how unfettered capitalism is supposed to work. In the past football wasn't pumped with ridiculous amounts of money and it was more evenly distributed and costs were lower so you didn't get the same level of brinkmanship.

Leicester threatening legal action. The whole thing turning into a farce where the clubs with the best lawyers prosper.
On a side note I haven't looked at the top half of the table for so long I didn't realise Leicester weren't top any more!

Are we likely to see a change in the rules any time soon? If you've got money to spend and can prove you won't be putting the club into peril by doing it then you should be allowed to spend, simply.

The ever growing costs on transfers and wages has to be taken as a major factor too. The 105 million loss was in place 10 years ago. To give an idea we signed Arnie for a reported 2 million and the highest transfer that summer was Ozil to Arsenal for 42.5 million, they have just spent over double that cost on Declan Rice 10 years later. In general context if the National Living Wage was the same as 10 years ago with expenditure inflation for today such as utilities, food, interest rates etc. It's pretty easy to say people would be more than in trouble.

This is what I don't get, do clubs win/earn enough money through league placing , trophies sponsorship tickets and merchandise and such to cover all this money they spend and if so which clubs?

Oh dear.
New - #lcfc have been placed under a player registration embargo by the EFL. Embargo imposed after Leicester allegedly exceeded the upper loss threshold in their P & S calculation results

[br Exactly this. If the owners of clubs are willing to stump up the cash up front then that is not unsustainable which is supposed to be the point of the whole thing. Or is it about making sure the smaller clubs can never compete again with the bigger ones? Surely not…

Embargo imposed after Leicester allegedly exceeded the upper loss threshold in their P & S calculation results Blimey - that will really cause some havoc between now and when they're promoted in 2 months time... The whole thing is a load of tosh. Not a single club who has been, or is on the verge of, sanctions has been under any financial difficulty for the periods being scrutinised. The whole point was to prevent another Bury of whichever example you choose from. It hasn't worked, nor has this 'Fit and Proper Persons' test. Meanwhile, Reading are being stripped from inside out with points deductions which only worsen their situation. It is all utter hogwash. A total waste of time and money. It won't be long before these top end Sports Lawyers are in the public eye and have their own agents.

Guess that means a return to Leicester for Iversen when his loan period is over and/or a refusal for any fee we might have offered. I know he had slipped far down the gk hierachy there, but in the event of an injury crisis or suspensions, the club would not now be able to buy their way out of trouble and so have to hold on to the players that are on their books.
I'm sure some will see that as a blessing in disguise, but it does mean that we shall have to continue our eternal search for a gk.

Great video. This just further shows how stupid FFP is and how select teams can completely ignore it.
