The mainstream media will be more concerned about how many billions Ineos will be pouring into Manchester United and Mbappe getting a £120m signing on fee ( good luck to him ) than a club outside the elite going bust
In short they don’t give a fuck

My Second Club are Torquay United due to family links down in Torbay.
Always enjoy trips to Plainmoor as a break from Stoke when fixtures/commitments allow. Very sad to see this, albeit they've been on the decline for some years now so guess it wasn't a major suprise, especially as TUFC are still operating as a full time professional club!
A lot of friction between the fans, owner & manager at the moment especially as Torquays recent form is shocking and Gary Johnson who is at the helm has refused to leave & the club is slowly sinking without any proper leadership.
Not sure where things will lead now this news has broken but can't see any improvements occurring any time soon! Very Sad.

They were so close to getting back to the league as well a few years back weren’t they in that play off match against Hartlepool at Ashton Gate?

When is this new regulator going to start influencing the diabolical distribution of wealth? The big clubs supported by millions of gloryhunting parasites might not give a fuck about the clubs at the bottom of the pyramid but they wouldn't survive long with their circus of clowns in a vacuum if there was no lower level football where players could play from young ages and develop, and where fans would soon desert when they get bored of 6 clubs playing each other every week. Besides all that, whenever I hear some throbber banging on about 'United' I always start talking to them as if they are on about Torquay United, what am I to do if they cease to exist! BM

Goodness knows how much money gets frittered away on transfer fees, signing on fees, wages and agents fees for players who contribute next to nothing at the top levels of football every year. Yet, supporters of really small clubs always have the threat of going bump for want of a relative pittance. Torquay was the club we signed Wayne Thomas from and Steve Bould went on loan there. Saw this the other day. Chester City v Villa in League Cup semi:

My daughter lives in Norden which is about 2miles from Rochdale so been there quite a few times recently the locals don't hold much hope of them surviving which to me as a football fan is heartbreaking.

The more time passes, the less football supporters, owners and decision makers will understand what the football pyramid means to the premiership. Young Man Utd fans will never understand that 3rd division clubs have an absolute link to their continued success when finding players. The way football is being financed and advertised today means younger guys will never understand there are Torquay supporters just as passionate and loyal as them, Chelsea ,Spurs, Arse. Even we have supporters who started coming in the premier days and who believe we are huge compared to most of our championship competitor’s. Football is changing so quickly we are all forgetting the hundred or so years of history that got us here. The way things are moving , to follow Liverpool, Barcelona ect won’t make you a glory hunter no matter where you live because there will only be a few clubs with relevance to choose from. It’s fucking sad .

Will be terrible if Rochdale go under, as we've had some good games up there.
Seems to be the norm up there with bury and Oldham struggling the years.
Sad times for the beautiful game.

Surely there’s enough money at the top end for a club like Man City or whatever to dig them out. I don’t really understand how these clubs get into this state and why some contingency can’t filter down to save these clubs. Naive probably

They need to survive , if only for the fantastic chip shop nearby .. and the fact that we went there what seemed 93 times only for the game to be called off each time , before having the game moved to Stoke In all seriousness, I wish Rochdale and Torquay well , and although the above is partly tongue in cheek it’s what football and memories are about .. it certainly isn’t the 1B + government money the shit are beginning to campaign for via their media friends to pay for a new ground

Had some good trips to spotland years back the odd pint or gallon in the pub on the corner across the road into the chippy Then back across through the turnstile
Beer fish and chips and football a man can live happy for a long while on that

Naive probably To be fair is nothing to do with Man City etc If a corner shop is struggling then you don't expect Sainsbury to bail then out Hopefully something will be sorted but as in any scenario, the bigger boys will generate more money be it football or anything and you have to manage within your means. Prem clubs generating millions isn't the reason Torquay are in trouble and not their responsibility.

Rochdale was a great away day. Always remember that cup tie when Bojan scored a worldie then had his injury.
Football was such an all inclusive game back in the day. But with players getting £400k a week while cracking little clubs like Rochdale and Torquay go bust is just putting me off the whole game

Same as lower league teams, they struggle because people go to higher league teams because they offer more success. Sad really.

Prem clubs generating millions isn't the reason Torquay are in trouble and not their responsibility. I agree with the point that it’s not Man City’s responsibility. I disagree that it’s not partially their fault. Prem clubs hoover up as much young talent as their seemingly unlimited funds allow. Any young player that they may have missed that is doing well in their first season or two is swallowed up as well. Most of them aren’t there to ever be played. They just send them out on loan and rake in the loan fees. They also drive up the rate of inflation in transfer fees and wages, with smaller clubs forced to overspend or be left with no one.

In the old days the old style transfer window helped lower league clubs.
If any talent emerged higher league clubs could buy them there and then and not have to wait for window, which would have helped the lower clubs financially.
Nowadays that revenue stream goes abroad instead and those teams now live hand to mouth.
