At the end of the season the Sentnull said it'd never got going. And that sums it up. Cup game v Liverpool stood out. Other than that it was a big lump of nothing. Goals were a problem. Just 50 in 44 games. We'd kill for that many goals nowadays.

1986-1987 the only season I managed to do every home and away game. The gearbox in my Rover SD1 blew up on the way to Peterborough. No breakdown cover, no bank/credit cards no mobile phones back then. There were 4 of us in the car and we had enough money to get into the match and buy a bit of food. A couple of my mates had Stoke tops on, and whilst looking cluelessly under the bonnet on the hard shoulder, a very nice BMW pulled up. There were a couple of Stoke lads in the front who very kindly lent me their RAC breakdown membership card, I just had to pretend to be the person whose name was on the card and then post it back to him. The RAC came out and we got recovered back to Stone and was dropped off just as Paul Ware made it 3-3. McGuinnes' the next day for a 2nd hand gearbox. The joys of following Stoke.

It's a brilliant YouTube channel full of memories. Is it anyone off here? Not sure myself, a lot of time and effort must go into sourcing all those obscure match clips and then putting them together...........

This was the year I started going home and away. A season with a poor start, and poor ending, with some really good stuff in the middle. A crazy December, full of goals. A mini cup run, and some games I can still remember vividly. Our average league attendance that season was 9,987. Micky Mills, Red and white army..... My first year going with my dad🔴⚪️

Great video. Great memories. Loads of iconic goals didn't even make the top 30.

Very well put together. I can remember some of those matches like they were yesterday. The days before mobile phones, the Internet and Sky TV - heaven

I love this thread.
Just when you’re thinking you’re done and you can’t take this shit anymore.
And it reminds you. Why. Because amidst all the frustration and downright depression the brief fleeting highs take us places we just can’t go in any other way.
The 86-87 season is about as Stoke as a season gets. Lows, highs and middle of the road blandness.
But what highs….

What a video!
No.1 and 2 always vie for my affection; saturated in the open end for ‘1’ and bang in line for ‘2’.
No.9 would always get my vote, though. Never had a (football) release like it

Wayne Biggins kissing the badge at Mansfield, then looking off ro Barnsley a week later! Steve Foley scoring in the last minute at Brighton to equal/break the club record. Stein walked on water, but I loved Fave Regis

I was pacified a bit when we used some of the money to sign Gleggy mind

For some reason, he signed for Barry Fry at Southend and we ended up getting Big Dave Regis instead. Regis was OK but what a mouthwatering partership Stein and Collymore would have been…

When we lost 2-0 at home to Derby in November, it sent us bottom of the league. Crazy that we came so close when two thirds of the season were dreadful.

Dont think he ever moved from the Cannock area Southend were in a higher league than us at the time (unbelievable as that sounds nowadays). He only went there for half a season and then went to Forest for big money.
