The strangest game of that season was the match at Bradford, played at the Osdal Stadium. The official coaches turned up and people made their way to the turnstiles, to find them wide open. So a large number of supporters entwred, and didn't pay to watch that match.. I’m sure there was trouble that day. Peter Hewitt had to write a letter of apology in the Sentinel after wrongly accusing travelling Stoke fans of being the perpetrators.

All of them are a really good watch and really well done. I wish he'd do one for 87/88 as that was my first season. There you go mate....

Strange season 87/88. Nothing really seemed to happen. Goals were a problem and we were a decent striker and a quality midfielder away from challenging in a very tough league with Villa, Leicester and Man City coming down from division 1.

Tony Henry got the 4th with a cracking 30 yarder Going in to school was good the next day Am I right in thinking that the corners of that pitch were raised? When the ball was placed to take a corner, it was a foot above the pitch!

Not really an issue for rugby as its in the ingoal area but for football it was remenicent of playing on your local rec!

87-88. My second season and I was still a youngster. There are several players I have next to no recollection of. Parkin - what position did he play and how did his career pan out?

Steve Parkin came through the youth ranks and was a versatile full back/midfielder. The season before (86/87), he played mostly as a left back, and did ok despite being right footed. He moved into midfield and was a wholehearted, committed player but lacked quality at times. We sold him to West Brom in 1989. He’s been a coach for a long time now and I think he’s currently assistant manager at Wrexham.

Midfield and full back decent but slow, looked good in his young days but didn't seem to improve went to West Brom ended up as Mansfield manager I think? He might have been from there?

At the end of the season the Sentnull said it'd never got going. And that sums it up. Cup game v Liverpool stood out. Other than that it was a big lump of nothing.

Just 50 in 44 games. Biggest disappointment for me was Ian Allinson. Thought he was a cracking signing but sounds like from the moment he moved he couldnt wait to move back south ☹️ If memory serves cup games were the highlight that season. Obviously the Liverpool 0-0, beating Norwich in the league cup and good away wins in the full members cub (Weds and Pompey?)

On paper he was a great signing from Arsenal. His missus couldn’t settle up here apparently 🤦🏻♂️

His baby daughter passed away only a few months after signing for us 😔

No one fancied them at the start, but they sold a patch of land to ASDA for a considerable amount of money, and invested it in players like Tony Cascarino, who formed a great partnership with a young Teddy Sherringham.

The Police opened the gate/fence at the front of the stand and Stoke supporters ended up on the edge of the pitch, to be put into a different block of terracing. Ask me what I did yesterday...

I was in the seats at Villa Park. The terrace looked uncomfortably full. You could see it becoming dangerous. After it became clear when some of the Stokies had asked for the empty area to be opened the police got abusive. It was all pointing one way.

But that was one of them times it was just dangerous. BUT the real pointer was police dismissing supporters concerns and supporters being abused.

The Villa stewards actually starting a fight with us on the way out and continuing onto the street. That was fun.
