Always useful to compare how we were doing at this point in the memorable 1997-98 season.
On this date in 1998, we were 20th, on 33 points from 30 games.
This time around we are 20th, on 32 points from 31 games.
We are even more screwed now than we were in 1998.

Nowhere near, we are the shittest team in this league by a country mile. No leadership, no structure, no physicality and zero confidence. It’s a case study in how to completely mismanage a positive situation into an absolute horror show. Added to which we’ve actually acquired some decent players who could do well in a better set up, well led team. Vultures will be circling for them end of season, leaving us with utter shit we’ve also acquired on long contracts who are as suited to league 1 as I am. We have some individually talented footballers - Burger, Bae, Junior but the squad is incredibly unbalanced with gaping holes all over the defence. Overall the squad is a bunch of misfits with key members, our marquee goalscoring signing, having had a fall out. Given the financial backing, we shouldn’t be remotely close to this situation. The fact that we have, shows complete mismanagement of the club from top to bottom. Heads - starting with Martins and Jared’s need to roll NOW. They should have been gone by the end of the Jan window when they didn’t get a LB or CB. Lose against QPR and Schumacher should follow them as something has obviously gone very wrong in the dressing room due to poor management. Hand over to Gallagher. If we want a real manager with experience of success of managing pampered, overpaid pansies and the egos of players in our squad then get in any of Pulis, Big Sam or Steve Cooper.

At the moment, no.
But the good thing about this league is that we are simply shitter than the other shitters. No one is particularly good, especially at the bottom.
So usually a bit of common sense, playing your best players in their best positions, and not throwing your better players under the bus after one poor result at Sunderland leading to a clear divide between players and coach puts you in good stead to beat the drop.
Does Schumacher have that in him? We'll see. But I'm nervous.
QPR will be huge. Absolutely huge. If we lose at home in similar fashion to yesterday it will get messy. After the full time boos yesterday I can imagine Schumacher, Ricky Martin and John are getting twitchy.

Yes and the feeling of total desperation with each random no-mark that gets thrown on to the pile. I reckon there’s still time for a free agent from Jared’s database to be chucked in for a crunch relegation battle, David Xausa-style.

Current form I think we're top of the three going down. Still time to change that but we look dire at the moment.

We’re evens to beat qpr. Never quite understand why our odds are so short compared to other teams in the mix around us. We’ve been shocking at home for ages but the odds for some reason are always short. Hopefully the bookies have it right and we get a result

Just did a review of the past 10 Championship Seasons. Over those 10 seasons 46 points was the average for safety. 43 points got you relegated.
We are currently at 32 points with 15 games to play. Very concerning to expect us to find 14 points in 15 games. Of those 15 a big match on Wednesday and therefore a must win.
We have to get points at these matches - QPR - CAR - HUD - SWA - SHW - BRI - PLY. Maybe we have a purple patch but having followed Stoke these past 8 seasons they don't last long.

There was a core of good players in that squad. Just lots of bad ones as well. Tbh I'm not sure this squad is any better than that one.

Don't think there's too much difference between the two teams to be honest. The whole atmosphere surrounding the club smells the same too.

Tbh I'm not sure this squad is any better than that one. keen didn’t play much that season if I recall. We defo had sigurdsson. We had some absolute dross though didn’t we. Xausa was a bury away desperate throw of the dice… remember the fat fullback sobiech too. Danny Tiatto wasn’t bad if I recall. Bryan small, Steven tweed, Paul Stewart, Paul holsgrove , town mckinlay and his red card…. The list of players we went thru that season is endless.

As you were now with QPR winning today, gap is back to what it was.
Sheffield Wednesday closing in as well, though keeps Millwall, Huddersfield, Plymouth and Swansea close.
I think we'll drop personally, we look terrible at both ends of the pitch, as I said back in mid-September.

I do think there are three teams worse than us on paper. What worries me though is we don’t have a consistently steady centre back and four of our most creative players ( in theory at least) are in the bomb squad/naughty step.

Would a win today make us potentially safe, obviously not mathematically but looking at previous seasons, we're around the boundary.

If we win and Sheff Wed and/or Brum lose we would be 8 pts clear with 6 games to play. Pretty much game over.
