Enjoy him whilst we've got him lads, if he fills out like Mama he's going end up being a monster of a midfielder. Bags of ability and don't think I've seen him give the ball away once Yeah he’s already got far more ability than his Dad. If he’s half as influential on Stoke as his dad was that would be a huge improvement on most of our recent players.

Would be nice to see him start around 10 games plus substitute appearances.

If Sidibe is the best option he will play. If he isn't he won't. He won't get time in the first team for the purposes of development. Schumacher said this himself a few weeks ago when talking about Sidibe's progress. No club bases their first team selection on the basis of developing their youngsters and no team is dependant on bringing on their young players. It's a brutal industry - most players don't make it and if they haven't got what it takes by the age of 20 they are just let go. There is no way the Sporting Director is going to over rule the Head Coach on team selection. If that happens Schumacher will walk and no self respecting Head Coach would touch the job. I think there are times of the season and even within games where a good coach/manager will get youngsters on the pitch for development and evaluation but that isn’t mainly at the beginning of a season but he does look unusually mature and a physical match for seasoned pros. A good manager/coach will only do that if they either believe the result isn't in danger or there is nothing on the game. The first team is not an extension of the academy. Good managers/coaches use the loan system to give youngsters who are not ready gammer time. Any club who prioritises youth development over results will fail to live up the potential in their squad. If we tried that there is absolutely no chance of promotion and a very good chance of relegation. If Sidibe gets regular game time it will be because he's good enough, not to develop him. I hope he does get picked and I'm absolutely certain if he does that's because Schumacher thinks he deserves to be there.

Where did Sidibe play last night. It sounds from the report as if he was deep again, controlling the pace of the game and playing forward passes allowing Baker further forward. Schumacher has given him that important role twice and sung his praises afterwards so I don't think there should be any worries about him getting chances this season. He played midfield, all of it The only question mark I have is re his finishing as not seen him shoot much Straight in the team for me, can always take him out later

As you rightly say there are games when the outcome is less important than the future. Games a manager/coach thinks are safe games they think are lost. I’ve a lot more confidence in Schu to do the right thing for the club or the player than AN who’s instincts I think were to the right thing for AN.

Thompson was a very definite anchor in the first half but the second it was not as clear. I’m actually struggling to remember the other CM in addition to Sol and DJ.

Yes he would and that’s how it should work at a club like ours. And there is a way. It’s just the way it works. There's no way it works like that at our club or any other club with a similar structure. A SD/DoF/TD interfering in selection would lead to an untenable situation. It's something that would be bought up in review after the event. Not meeting a desired level of introduction and integration and maybe even on a personal basis of persistently overlooking a particular young player the club think very highly of. The manager/HC will make all selection decisions and they will discuss periodically whether he's doing that to the ethos that he agreed to buy into before he was appointed. Basically the SD/DoF/TD has no role to play on matchdays.

He's far too much of a fairy to play in deep lying roles.

It’s the club expect this….do your job. Would it be something like "these 3 youth players need at least 600 minutes by January" and then the coach picks day to day? Or something else? Doubt it would even be that player specific. There'll be a KPT for player graduation from academy to U21 and U21 to first team. I suppose there will be discussions of individual players but overall targets that set the ethos of the club won't be personalised. There will be numerous individuals responsible for meeting them and the SD will oversee that, not just blame the HC for not playing them if the age groups aren't producing them of the standard necessary. So if Schu wasn't hitting his KPT's then he'd give his mitigation in his review and JW would have to consider whether that was fair comment and then JW would be taking that into reviews with the age group coaching staff. Or he'll decide he's not achieved his target or even made enough progress towards achieving it and then he'd have to produce a plan for Schu to improve his performance in that area. It could be that Schu did everything possible to implement that plan and yet the target still isn't met. If that was the case then they might have to review the target and it's achievability. It's all about making sure certain things aren't getting ignored or overlooked because of satisfactory performance in other areas.

It took a while for me to work out wtf KPT meant! I've seen them work well. They put some onus back on the senior manager to help others meet their targets and perform satisfactorily by means of training and performance improvement plans etc. They don't help much with people who don't give a fuck other than to start the process of getting rid of them but at least even that is done to a process and not knee jerk. My main personal experience of it is getting people another chance to buck their ideas up when their managers haven't done anything to help them and just slagged them off then tried to get rid of them.

Has to be a starter for now surely?
He really should have started today and then showed why.
Yes he will need managing.
Yes he can’t and shouldn’t play every game.
But for now he should be starting.

And quite frankly is better than them. Which is scary.

He’s definately the pick of the young guns and looks a great player who reads the game superbly.
He’ll get plenty of chances being part of the squad but needs to be handled carefully as we don’t want to burn him out.

I think he is the guy we need to balance the whole team.
He totally 100% needs to be a regular. Maybe Lawal is better but hes injured and we just dont know yet. Until then we need a player like Sidibe who seems able to do both the rough stuff, running with the ball and the passing.
Im starting to think he might become the most important midfielder this season for us - considering he is 17 thats ridiculous
