oggyoggyWhen we talk about the influence of the Israel lobby. We mean stuff like this It is pretty awful. But I imagine prospective leaders get the same from multiple lobbyists about multiple issues. I don’t think this would be confined to the pro-Israel lobbyists. I definitely think there should be more transparency about lobbying, and some regulation.

What on earth have I just watched? Sadly that may not be too far from the thoughts and intentions of the Israeli government. And Western governments? The ONLY way " we" can have a democratic voice in this is by electoral reform. Parties such as tge Greens would have a much bigger voice and say in what is happening. Otherwise we are just sidelined commentators.

What is it that you think she is reacting to? Something like a profound and visceral sense of abandonment and betrayal. Outrage at the existence of her (and their) homeland being attacked by her own people. The victim-blaming, the incredulity at them siding with the enemy in a war triggered by an unspeakably cruel antisemitic massacre. Quite possibly fear for her child’s future. That’s if I had to guess, obviously I can’t speak for her. You won’t agree with the legitimacy of that I’m sure. Fine, but I’m taking issue with the characterisation of her as “brainwashed”. Her reaction is emotional but understandable and in step with mainstream opinion - they are the radicals here, not her. This thread is now so completely one-sided that I think that kind of thing is lost. Apologies for the delayed reply to this mate, I was just watching this exchange and Waters uses the term 'brainwashed' (quite legitimately imho) very early on in the conversation and he and Feinstein, then go on to articulate my feelings perfectly. You read and you listen and you research and then once you've done all of that, you do the 'right' thing ...

Anything is possible, can't really predict the future but at least it would be more representative. It would be up to " others " to offer alternatives and to make the case for them....and at least the electorate would know that their vote counted.....which it largely doesn't at present .

What on earth have I just watched? That's Chris Hedges, a pro-Palestine/anti-Israel writer. He calls Hamas a "resistance group" later in that talk, or a similar one. Here he's characterising the Israelis as he sees them in his own words (or quoting something).

Here he's characterising the Israelis as he sees them in his own words (or quoting something). Amongst many other things Chris Hedges has been a War Correspondent in South America and the Balkans, New York Times Bureau Chief in the Middle East and was a contributor to the New York Times Feam that won the Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting on 9/11 and the Terrorist threat it poses He believes Netanyahu's coalition's end game is to destroy any possibility of a Palestinian State by acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing and he cites the withholding of food, water, medicine, and the bombing of hospitals, during the conflict as examples of that endeavour. This would coincide with establishing an a pure Ethno Religious Jewish State I'm sure you don't agree with his view but Hedges has established Bona Fides to put forward his view. A view shared by some on here and also some World Leaders although they wouldn't couch it in such naked language, ICJ has, at least in part.

Thanks for the reply PL, I genuinely had no idea who he was, it starts to make sense now. Me neither at first, then I happened to get the sense I recognised the bloke so checked it out. Highlights a problem with social media like this though doesn't it - it’s clear from the replies to that tweet that people are under the impression this is somebody speaking sincerely - and it’s not a stretch to imagine they think this smartly-presented American-accented old white bloke is some kind of Israeli official speaking plainly about exterminating Palestinians in the cruellest way imaginable. It seems obvious to me that it’s been deliberately clipped to give that false impression but even if it hasn’t, there are probably hundreds or thousands of people trawling through Twitter who come away with it anyway, and have that stored in a corner of their mind, informing their opinions and outrage as they take to the streets or their own social media to protest the genocide they are now convinced Israel is committing. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen the other way round either. First casualty of war and all that - more true now than ever maybe. I watched Roger by the way. Too much to say about the video itself (including imo one very revealing slip of the mask at the end when he’s talking about what happens to the Israelis under his ideal solution) but one thing that really resonated with me was his phrase about this being “an existential battle to save the soul of humanity” - at one moment a few months ago you suggested - probably justifiably - that I was talking vaguely or in nebulous terms or something like that. Well what Roger says there is something like what I was trying to express. I couldn’t agree with him more.

Dr Mohammed Abu Salmiya Director of al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza has been released without charge after more than seven months of detention by Israel. He had been arrested by IDF because of a claim that al-Shifa was the Operations Centre of Hamas with underground tunnels which they claimed Dr Salmiya must have known about and collaborated on Dr Salmiya claims he was subject to torture and beaten daily. He also claims some Medical Staff that were detained have died as a result of torture which all Palestinian Detainees are subject to daily www.bbc.com/news/articles/cz47w24dld0o

If you're appalled by what's happened in Gaza and you vote for Labour then just remember what you're supporting in your name.
It's all well and good speaking out on a public forum and saying your disgusted by the parties response.
Voting for them is supporting genocide in your name. An uncomfortable truth for some but the truth none the less.

Of course it does but given they were elected before the conflict and before their voters knew the parties position on the conflict its a bit different. People know Labours stance. Labours relation to the Israel lobby. Labours candidates with connections to Mossad agents. And Labour MPs lack of support for Palestine.
