The U21 squad looks a bit threadbare really.
Is Blondy even under 21?
Baker had a good loan at Newport last season that seemed to go under the radar in the world of Stoke on the internet. Will he push for a place here? Will he be sent to League One for the next rung up the ladder?
It’s got to be make or break for Sparrow and Macari too?
I’d expect the 18s to make up the numbers too.
Bickerton looks very good. Will Smith Sidibe Lowe Tezgel
being the main ones to step up?

Watched a bit of Ireland's son play in that 7v7 tournament a few weeks ago. He looked overweight to me. If I remember correctly, his career seemed to stall quite a bit after he went off to trial football in Germany. I think he tried a few other places in the UK, then came back to Stoke.

Blimey - is that a complete overhaul of every role since Tricky has arrived?

Inevitable really, I’m surprised he’s lasted this long. Hopefully he has plenty of success in his next job.
The club is going to be in one hell of a mess when we sack AN.

None of this can be healthy for a system that was starting to prove its worth and pay its way. Very odd.

So basically, do we take from this, that the new regime 'didn't rate' vast swathes of the incumbent staff? It's one hell of a clearout, and doesn't show much confidence at all, in what had gone before.
I'd also say it's a risk. You can afford to get the odd appointment wrong, and correct it, but many at once & you've got to have your recruitment strategy water-tight.
This new bloke's tearing the place up.

Reading it, it looks like Gareth made the decision to move on and working his notice period ? “After around a decade here at Stoke, Gareth has expressed a desire to seek a new adventure within the game,” said the Club’s Technical Director Ricky Martin.
“He will do so with our sincere thanks and – by continuing in his role for the next few months – Gareth can ensure that services to our young players are not disrupted during the period of transition.

Very worrying for me that Gareth has left. Of course we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes but he seems to be well respected in the game so the fact he wants to leave cannot be seen as a positive in my opinion.

Dear, dear me. What the hell are they playing at?
They've completely and utterly ripped up the one single positive about this club over the last few years.
Why do our owners put so much faith in transient people in key positions?

Alex Neil was popular at his previous clubs by & large. I think if you work hard and train hard he is fine and probably is quite amiable around the place, piss around dnd not work hard and then that is where you will fall out with him, which is exactly what most fans will demand.

So, will we get in an appt to start for the day he leaves or will we just sit and wait until he’s close to going before acting like we have done with every other backroom appt this year?

Every time there’s a new manager the board allow wholesale changes to the structure. The days of the manager ruling the roost are gone and good football people should be running things from the top not livin la Vida loca or whoever else who’s that’s never played the game they drag in. The managers and their coaches for the club- the club shouldn’t be bowing down to them. The disruption to an academy that has done well in recent years is an odd one. Collins , souttar, Edwards, Campbell, Taylor, sparrow, tezgel amongst others have all been through and gone on to play 1st team football, with one going on to be the most expensive Irishman ever. Odd.

Did you not read the article, a new man will be appointed and then a period of transition before Owen departs.

I wonder if anyone stops to think what Gareth Owen will be feeling about their comments on here? He has stated why he is leaving and is going to stay on to ensure a smooth transition...or are people saying he is lying?

I really do think he should be a big part of the squad this season from the start. I really like Griffiths too. All energy midfielder but a cracking footballer with it. Just hope he’s given a chance and takes it. Lowe is obviously very good too.

An alternative view perhaps with merit especially after the guy from Crewe was appointed. I queried Owen’s position at the time friends. Only time will tell if the changes across the coaching and academy staff were justified. One thing that is crystal clear. If at any footballing level across the club there’s no significant improvement there will be no hiding place for those who’ve made the changes. Their management, their staff, their players. Fingers crossed but time will tell
