Can't wait for next season when the PL, so called, superstars have to visit Luton's ground.
Let alone their supportersšš

I fucking detest the playoffs, well done Luton! Finished third and were promoted....as it should be! And not some team that finishes fucking 6th!!! You should check out Kidderminster Harriers promotion from 7th in the National League North. That'll really make your blood boil! Squeaked into the playoffs by winning their last six league games, then, en route to promotion, beat the team who finished second, a whole 24 pts ahead of them!

Everyone knows the rules at the start of the season. I hate it when people state this as a defence. Yes, we know the rules but letās face it, there isnāt an alternative. Itās not like teams can say āFuck this league with its playoff rules, Iām going to play in the three up, three down leagueā. Iām not saying bin the playoffs, but there needs to be some fairness applied where there is such a huge points gap between 3rd and 6th place. Some kind of weighting system perhaps? A weighting system? Goals start for so many points ahead? I'd like to see someone come up with anything sensible or work.

Either leave it as it is or move to something like
6th plays 5th Winner plays 4th Winner plays 3rd (final)
Rewards better finishes with a better chance of promotion.

The Scottish have an interesting play off system, where one of the bottom teams from the league above plays off to avoid relegation against three promotion hopefuls from the division below

Seem to recall Charlton turning over Leeds in the PO final to keep their div 1 (as it was then) status. I coukd be wrong though

Or finishes 5th and goes up like we did in 2002. Whilst I agree it's great for the winning team It's just so wrong that a team can finish on 20-30 points more than 6th place and still not be promoted, the playoffs need fecking off and reverting to a straight 3 up 3 down...but that won't happen because money talks. Thatās even worse. When there were no playoffs the season was over for half the league at Christmas, too many dead rubber games, it was mind numbing, and crowds would drop off massively.

Seem to recall Charlton turning over Leeds in the PO final to keep their div 1 (as it was then) status. I coukd be wrong though There was a reason why the system was changed. The last couple of seasons where the system was used were total carnage, especially in games where the team from the higher division didn't look like retaining their current status. The powers that be thought that by changing to the current system, where the play-off losers stayed where in their current division, the fans of those losing teams might be a bit less inclined to try and get the games abandoned (or something more serious).

I can still remember Jonny Rudge being interviewed, stating in the Sentinel that Vale were aiming for the playoffs. They finished third that season with 88 points I think, and got beat 3-0 by West Brom in final with Swanny sent off early doors. He bitched and moaned about how unfair the playoffs were in the Sentinal that May. Made me chuckle, and itās stuck with me since. He achieved his goal

Thatās even worse. When there were no playoffs the season was over for half the league at Christmas, too many dead rubber games, it was mind numbing, and crowds would drop off massively. The play-offs are definitely here to stay for that reason alone. They could be made much fairer than they are. The non-league system seems a better way of doing it. I don't like the fact that it goes down to seventh, but it does reward the teams that finish higher and they're just one leg, at the ground of the higher placed side. Other than the money side of things, I don't see a reason why, out of fairness, the lower placed team shouldn't have to win, say, three away games to get promoted, the highest place team just one home game or something like that.

Playoffs are absolutely fine as they are imo, a team finishing miles ahead of another team in the playoffs is immaterial really, if they were good enough to go up automatically it would have happened and itās sport and thereās going to be winners and losers.
As of a few years ago the percentage of teams finishing 3rd and going up was about 40% so itās still the most likely finishing position to result in a promotion via the playoffs.

Here's a comment/question for this thread and the one on most awful moments following Stoke. Watching Paul Simpson take Carlisle to promotion today 'reminded' me of being at the Baseball ground ages (not sure when) ago and seeing him absolutely take Stoke apart. Or did I remember this, as I can't find a record of it. I'd have sworn Derby scored about six, and Simpson was unplayable but-did it really happen!?
