I'd like to see the distance covered stats, and all the high intensity sprint stuff to see just how "frightening" Smallpiece's legs were compared to others in the division.
Neil seems to think that press-triggering stuff is crucial in that role.
I wonder how easy it'd be to get someone in with comparable legs to do a decent Smallpiece impression if we couldn't get him out of Soton

Smallpiece has clearly improved but that chance last night is where he's letting himself down. But if he starts scoring that makes him PL potential.
I still don't think he's creative enough in general but his passing has improved a hell of a lot.
He just needs to improve his shooting now.

He's got a massive job this summer hasn't he?
I think this what we're looking at starting XI wise and its including 2 loans that aren't contracted for that season.
New GK
Sterling New CB New CB New LB
Pearson Laurent New CM
Campbell Target man New LW
And we genuinley need all of the below:
1 GK
1 RB ideally Sterling 2 CB 1 LB
Pearson CM
RW LW
Target man
And then I think we need but not a priority:
1 backup GK 1 Utility full back

Team GK Hoever (on loan more likely than Sterling), Wilmott, CB, LB Pearson, Laurent, LM Campbell, CF, LW
Back up 2 GKs or resign Bonham and Fielding/ (use Blondy) RB, CB, resign Fox, Tymon - Taylor out on loan Baker, Thompson, CM (maybe Powell) Brown, Tezgel/Lowe, LF
2 or 3 deals already done, not necessarily for players with us currently. Leaves about 9 signings, the same as last summer' 5 of which will be loans

Just looking at some of the better known players that may be broadly feasible including the better Championship Bosmans - not necessarily all ones we'd want.
GK - Daniel Iversen, Matija Sarkic RB - Dujon Sterling, Ki-Jana Hoever LB- Harry Toffolo, Ryan Manning CB- Axel Tuanzebe, Charlie Cresswell CM - Ben Pearson, Will Smallpiece, Lewis O'Brien, Daniel Johnson, Alex Pritchard LW - Brereton-Diaz, Jaden Philogene-Bidace, Josh Bowler RW- Chiedozie Ogbene CF - Lyndon Dykes, Kieffer Moore, Ashley Barnes

That said Barnes is a pain in the arse but has he gone? Just doesn't seem to be the same player he was.

Just turned 30. 10 this season, and 27 last season in League 1

Kieffer Moore would be excellent.
Ogbene from Rotherham I think is very, very underrated.

I think Kieffer Moore would be an excellent target man, who can score his fair share as well.

Kieffer Moore would be excellent. He's probably a bit unrealistic, especially if they go down? But he isn't starting. Him and Pearson in a double deal if they stay up would be good!

I think he's another one who I've always caught on their bad day then.
His record is way better than I thought it was.

Given Neil went for Emil Riis direct from Denmark when at Preston, you'd hope there are one or two wild cards knocking about from foreign leagues that we might go for.

I'm optimistic based on Neil's signings so far. I'd argue 7 of the signings made in 2007/08 turned out to be key players that season, with at least another couple playing important cameos: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007%E2%80%9308_Stoke_City_F.C._season#InIt's a better position than a squad full of players the manager doesn't want.

We are absolutely nailed on to sign Stewart! id be amazed if he wasn't in (another) red and white shirt by September! luckily he seems decent as well, although injury prone , nowt new there though for a Stoke signing!

On that list the stand out names that are probably realistic and fit the bill imo:
Ollie McBurnie Ryan Manning Kieran Dowell Jay DaSilva Chiedozie Ogbene Bradley Dack Ryan Nyambe
Looking at the PL frees, no idea if these would join?
Johnny Evans Nathan Ferguson Pontus Jansson Bego

New contact at Sunderland hasn't he? Nothing confirmed, but they're trying to get him to sign one apparently And they've got an option to extend his current deal until the end of 2023-24, so not crisis point yet - and probably means he'd still cost quite a bit. The achilles injury would be a slight worry for anyone coming in for him this summer anyway you'd think?

Yeah Achilles is just about as bad as it gets isn’t it, injury wise. If there’s one people are never quite the same again after, it’s that one.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-live-norwich-neil-8262840Is it a possibility to keep the loan signings for next season?Neil: I think everything is possible. Once we get to the end of the season we've not only got the lads who are here on loan but the lads who are out of contract currently in the summer as well. I don't think anything is off the table. You'll have a section of people who will say we don't stand a chance of getting him, him or him. That's rubbish. You've have another section saying we'll definitely sign him, him and him. That's also rubbish. There is every possibility that we could sort something out to try to keep the fabric of the team at the moment which I think at the moment is functioning very well together and then try to grow and add to it in the summer. That's the aim. Ultimately there will be some decisions that we won't be in full control of because they're not our players. It'll be down to negotiations, their willingness to want to come, fees and all that sort of stuff. Will what you do be dependent on the last nine games too?Neil: I don't think anyone is going to drastically change my mind between now and then. They're more likely to change my mind in a positive rather than negative because there's a difference between capability and what you're offering up at that moment in time. If your capability is really high and you know you can perform really well on a regular basis - which I think a number of the lads are showing now - I know what they're capable of doing. I have to try to keep them there for as long as I can. Naturally there are going to be drop offs, that'll happen through personal circumstance, the team, what the game looks like, but I'm really confident. I said when I came in that I know exactly where I want us to go and what we need. I've got tunnel vision about where we want to end up.
