www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-live-norwich-neil-8262840Is it a possibility to keep the loan signings for next season?Neil: I think everything is possible. Once we get to the end of the season we've not only got the lads who are here on loan but the lads who are out of contract currently in the summer as well. I don't think anything is off the table. You'll have a section of people who will say we don't stand a chance of getting him, him or him. That's rubbish. You've have another section saying we'll definitely sign him, him and him. That's also rubbish. There is every possibility that we could sort something out to try to keep the fabric of the team at the moment which I think at the moment is functioning very well together and then try to grow and add to it in the summer. That's the aim. Ultimately there will be some decisions that we won't be in full control of because they're not our players. It'll be down to negotiations, their willingness to want to come, fees and all that sort of stuff. Will what you do be dependent on the last nine games too?Neil: I don't think anyone is going to drastically change my mind between now and then. They're more likely to change my mind in a positive rather than negative because there's a difference between capability and what you're offering up at that moment in time. If your capability is really high and you know you can perform really well on a regular basis - which I think a number of the lads are showing now - I know what they're capable of doing. I have to try to keep them there for as long as I can. Naturally there are going to be drop offs, that'll happen through personal circumstance, the team, what the game looks like, but I'm really confident. I said when I came in that I know exactly where I want us to go and what we need. I've got tunnel vision about where we want to end up. He answered like a bloody politician there, said a whole lot of nothing

He's very upbeat all of a sudden, isn't he? www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-manager-alex-neil-8263807“As far as I’m concerned, there’s only one trajectory we’re on as a club.” “Once we get into the summer months we’ll have a real platform to kick on and show what we can do.” “Coming to Stoke is different in the fact that for the last number of seasons we’ve been in the bottom half for four seasons. That’s not opinion, it’s a fact. To build on that takes a bit more time than other challenges but it’s a challenge I’ve been looking forward to and wanting to get my teeth into because I think when you’ve done other projects, something different looks appealing. Not only that, you know you’re going to get the backing. You know it’s a massive club, you know it’s got huge potential. That’s so exciting and now you’re starting to see why.” www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0f8s7p1"I've been saying this for weeks now. We fancy ourselves against anybody in the division, because on our day we're as good as anyone in the division" "I can see where we're going. For me it's really quite clear and I've been doing this a long time now. I just hope other people can start to see it"

Chances of them taking that option and paying him £62k for the next 12 months pretty close to zero you'd think. But if he's been on 42k for the last few years, the chances of him considering us and our top whack of 20kish seem remote. If he sees the season out without injury, got to be a good chance of someone offering him something closer to that on a Bosman.

Yeah can't see him being here next season which is a massive shame because he's the best defender we've had in years.

Got to be a massive long shot but he'll be approaching 27 when the new season starts and had only made 63 appearances in his whole career, 28 in the Prem and 19 for Man U. The glimmer of hope could be that he might be looking for somewhere to settle down and forge a career.

www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/birmingham-city-transfer-sanderson-wolves-26512945BirminghamLive has been told that Wolves won’t demand an excessive fee for Sanderson, who has two years remaining on his contract at Molineux. Wolves are prepared to work with Sanderson to seal the transfer of his choice. Blues have been able to keep Sanderson for the entirety of his loan spell this term after insisting that Wolves didn’t include a recall clause in the agreement. According to sources at Wolves, other Championship clubs have shown interest in Sanderson - including Stoke City - during the current campaign.

Still think we will go back in for young Cresswell at Leeds and the lad at Peterborough.

He's got a massive job this summer hasn't he? I think this what we're looking at starting XI wise and its including 2 loans that aren't contracted for that season. New GK Sterling New CB New CB New LB Pearson Laurent New CM Campbell Target man New LW And we genuinley need all of the below: 1 GK 1 RB ideally Sterling 2 CB 1 LB Pearson CM RW LW Target man And then I think we need but not a priority: 1 backup GK 1 Utility full back Know there’s a separate thread on this but surely Fox is worth another cut price year as cover? He’s done a decent job when he’s had to step in.

He’s done a decent job when he’s had to step in. Possibly and I like him but he will be on biggish wages so will need a big cut I would have thought. I wouldn't be against it but I'd look to try and do better. But as a cheap back up he'd be fine.

Some seem to suggest Cresswell is a done deal come the end of the season?. What are we thinking 6 signings needed?.

Seems to be 14 (11 who have started a game) (and the 14 is including McCarron, the two 17 year-old strikers who'll be on the fringes at best, Edwards - plus Tymon and Baker whose futures must be questionable and DWP who isn't even getting on the pitch for Northampton) GK RB Edwards 2024 LB Tymon, McCarron 2025 CB Wilmot, Taylor 2025 MID Thompson 2024, Baker, Laurent 2025 ATT Campbell, DWP, Gayle 2024, Brown, Tezgel, Lowe 2025

Reminds me of the situation when Boskamp took over from TP and we didn’t have enough players to play a five a side training match.

Frightening and exciting in equal measure. We really need to make at least a couple of the loans permanent for some continuity.

If we can’t keep Smallbone I’d love Lewis O’Brien in that mid 3 - just been shipped out to the MLS on loan but was one of the best CMs in the league last season.

Powell turning 29 today.
Is the assumption that he definitely won't be here next year?
Or, given his wage demands will necessarily have to be much lower and his potential suitors will be mid-Champ clubs and lower who will not be offering him the earth and not building their teams around him, is there a chance he could come back?
Seems strange that he could potentially walk away with very little fanfare.

Somewhere like Preston or Blackburn might make sense?
