If death is an illusion does that mean we have always existed and will always do so? How does that explain the fact that there are billions more people on the planet now than previously? Where have all these new entities come from? Aliens.

Ah, that's where musik's point number 2 comes in where he says all these lives he's lived haven't necessarily been as a human, "far from it" I did consider that! For 3500 million years the majority of the planet was essentially barren, sterile, with life confined to shallow, warm seas in the form of simple, single celled bacteria. So, where did all this additional life come from that now covers the entirety of the earth?! Mathematically and biologically it just doesn't work if death is not the end of one individual... Cell divisions?

If we don't die but somehow our spirit/soul/life force moves into the next body, where are all these new spirits/souls/life forces coming from to occupy all these new animals? Just doesn't work mathematically or logically. You'd have to have a constant number of bodies and a constant number of souls to occupy them if death is not really the end of one individual!

Or perhaps it's a mistake to regard 'spirit energy' as an individual quantum, unique to a particular life (human or otherwise). If consciousness is a single universal field that life interacts with, then maybe the upper limit on the number of lives is simply the amount of matter capable of producing it.

Yes musik should be able to tell us if he's always been the same soul throughout his various lives as various creatures. Or if he's divided into other things. Certainly there is a lot more life on the planet now than at times in its earlier history so it'd be interesting to know where these additional souls come from.

Which would also help explain the decline of religion. If the spirit is a single pool, then as more bodies draw from it it’s strength becomes diluted? Who knows? I’d always put it down to education. I rejected Christianity at around the time I became a teenager and adopted a very naïve (and somewhat arrogant) form of atheism that insisted that religion was at odds with science, and I was a scientist. Then through my teenage years, I started to have some ‘parapsychological experiences’ that persuaded me that consciousness extends beyond the physical brain. Accepting that this belief was at odds with what I understood about science, I rationalised it by asserting that there must be perfectly logical explanations for these phenomena, it was just that science hadn’t found a way to explain them yet. In fact, maybe science had potentially found a way; I just wasn’t sufficiently well-educated to realise it – They didn’t teach quantum physics in the ‘80s, even at ‘A’ Level. It was some years later when I chanced upon a documentary addressing the double-slit experiment and entanglement, that my interest was piqued. It was when I learned about the Higgs field that I started to imagine that consciousness could be a field that life interacts with, and which opened-up the possibility that our ‘individual’ consciousnesses are just tiny parts of a much bigger whole. It’s all cod theorising, of course, and a theory not accepted by the myriad brilliant brains of the scientific community, which continues to regard it as being limited to the brain. (Turns out I’ve been interested in biocentrism for years, Yeokel, but just didn’t realise it!) The thing is that none of this conflicts with my atheism, as it’s just a potential scientific explanation for some unusual things I’ve experienced. Where that becomes ‘religious’ is when we start to deify this universal consciousness, and start to believe that our individual lives interacting with it serves a divine purpose. Maybe there is some ‘meaning’, but as I wrote in an earlier post, I’m not sure our feeble human intellect has the capacity to figure it out (or at least mine doesn’t), so I’m not going to waste too much time trying.

Religion means reverance of the sacred or worship of God. You wrote "for many who follow a religion, they can't follow that religion without (doing) harm (to) others who they believe don't follow in the true faith". But if they do that, they aren't worshiping God. That's why I wrote "it stops being a religion when those who follow it will do anything to harm others". And you wrote: "To get to the plane of existence, you don't need to follow any religion to do it". You must figure it out by yourself how to get the gift. It doesn't guarantee you will be a religious person just because you join an organized way to worship God, a certain -ism. On the contrary, seeking the truth is about going inside. So, to clarify, religious and religion is about reverance of the sacred. Therefore, harming others is a contradiction. Sorry music, but again I must disagree with you. The only creatures who have a religion are human beings and of all life on Earth, human beings are the most faulty ones. Religion is a faulty thesis and one invented by a virus-like entity. I would go as far as saying religion is more the tool of the Devil rather than that of an omnipotent creator, in whatever form it takes... if such a thing actually exists. Creationism; existentialism, and most 'isms' are fallible human illogical ideas. They don't represent reality as far as we know. That's why I'm an agnostic. The human brain is the most complex of organs. You have described what your brain thinks is your 'reality', but to most others, your way of thinking is completely alien to our species. As human beings, we should be logical in our thinking. It's why we've come to be the most powerful creature on this planet. Mathematics is logic but only really understood by the rarest of human beings. Einstein being the ultimate example of what sort of mind can lead us to genuine reality. But is the human brain fallible? A diet of hallucinogenic substances can change it from a logical entity into an illogical one that can open doors to a different type of existence. But that existence only exists within your mind and not in the real world. A dream can do the same thing. So, my serious question to you is, do you think you're a new type of Einstein who really does understand reality or have you been partaking of too much weed? OS. Ps. I'm enjoying this debate. Empty Kodac ink cartridge and a cup of tea. Wrong. Read again the definition what religion is, and thereby try to understand what 'religious' mean. If animals couldn't be religious they wouldn't be able to advance at all. Life is really only about actions and consequences. And about Logic. As a small child I was observed for my exceptional talents. And school was a walk in the sun, and sometimes really boring. When I'd started at University I was pretty soon asked to join a research study regarding IQ. I had earlier shown extreme points. Logic tests normal people (IQ 90-110) managed in 40 minutes with 20 points out of 40, I managed 40 out of 40 in only 2 minutes. I really would have liked to start at University level at 10-12. That was the type of school for me. I signed an agreement with the research study not to perform in any way, not showing my IQ in public like I was some sort of freak show act. I'm an abstract thinker. Not many understand me, in my day-to-day life. To me, not to believe in a Creator, would be like going to the concert hall and sit down, expecting the instruments to play by themselves. 🤨 Heavenly Mix ice cream & Salted Caramel ice cream, lussekatt bun and milk //: musik

It isn't belief of "God", it's generally recognised to be the belief and worship of "A" god or gods (note the lack of the indefinite article in your definiition and the lack of a capital "g" in the accepted definition. Both major points to take into account here). The reason it's "generally recognised" is that there is no overall agreed concensus of any specific definition of what does or doesn't constitute a religion. You also can't say someone is "wrong" based solely on your view and experiences and then tell them they have to read your personal definition and only base their opinions on that. It's fine if you're religious, all power to you for it, but it's that type of arrogance and refusal to accept other viewpoints that makes many very suspicious of religion in general.

🤨 Heavenly Mix ice cream & Salted Caramel ice cream, lussekatt bun and milk //: musikAh! Now I get where you're coming from, music. (Debating on a public forum can be very difficult at times.) Definition of Religion taken from Merriam-Webster: 1: A personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices. 2: The service and worship of God or the supernatural. 3: A cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith. 4: Archaic : scrupulous conformity : CONSCIENTIOUSNESS. I'm not sure which of those definitions above you adhere to, but there are some on there which make me an agnostic and not an atheist. What I do know is that I cannot ascribe to the idea of an omnipotent being/animals/objects that are followed by prophets that are worshiped by human beings. Another level of consciousness I am prepared to consider seriously. OS. Ps. I've always considered you to be a person of high intellect even though you can be mischievous at times.

I've avoided this thread but i've just read it all , it's very very interesting and now i'm not afraid of dying , not that i want to btw I remember the old man having a heart attack and when i saw him in hospital we were talking and he told me he was sitting in the ambulance going to hospital and thought nothing of it meanwhile while in hospital after having his stent fitted and talking to the doctors he didn't realize he died in the ambulance for a 5 minutes before the paramedics brought him back , he was never afraid of dying after that experience

Definition of Religion taken from Merriam-Webster: 1: A personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices. You are probably more religious than you know. Consciousness, another level ... That's exactly what it's about in a way. Try The Bhagavad-gita for a start. Expand your consciousness. Also, play around with the definitions if you like. And just hypothetically my friend, relax, take a deep breath and assume mine is the correct one: "reverance of the sacred". If it's the correct definition of "religion" - aren't you religious? I think so.

Wrong. Read again the definition what religion is, and thereby try to understand what 'religious' mean.If animals couldn't be religious they wouldn't be able to advance at all.

Maybe I am on the basis that I don't know but am prepared to accept that there may be more to consciousness or subconsciousness than mere mortals understand. You seem to have taken the step to believe but I've, up to yet, not been able to take that step... hence why I'm an agnostic. Being almost 82 and not in the best of health these days, I'll soon find out. I've made provisions for that. Although I've arranged to have a humanist service at the crem read by a Celebrant rather than a Vicar, the two songs below will be played at my funeral, not only because I respect that some of my family and friends are 'religious' and will appreciate it, but also as a backup in case you're right after all. I'm not daft, you know! OS. Jam sandwich and a cup of tea.

The greatest of all the hymns, and guaranteed to set me off blarting at a funeral.

I'm interested in where Jesus fits into all this musik, any thoughts? A messenger. One of the best if you ask me. There have been some of those. People on Earth in general think different people believe in different Gods, as if there are plenty of them. They find it both surprising and amusing there. So when he 'died' on the cross, but then came out of the cave alive, what happened? Apparently there's evidence he buggered off elsewhere, became someone called 'Issa' and lived until he was 80.

I did consider that! Dust to dust, ashes to ashes, funk to funky
