What the hell is going on here? What a cesspit this country has become thanks to years of open door policy. And it’s not limited to London either.

I thought it might have been Leicester at first due to the recent issues there but it’s definately London. Theresa May has a lot to answer for. Police are woefully underfunded and short on numbers.

Those aggressive people that lack self control should be deported. As should those at the Iran embassy protests.
Same applies to anyone doing the same thin at any other protest.
The lack of respect for authorities is not tolerable.

Any London experts advise a good place to stay for easy access to Central London by overland/underground and Tilbury Docks by car? I'm going to be spending 8/10 weeks down there on a new project at work and looking at the map I think maybe Greenwich would be ideal (I can use the Wooolwich Ferry/Blackwall Tunnel to get from my hotel to Tilbury). londonnewsonline.co.uk/23-year-old-man-stabbed-to-death-in-greenwich/RIP. Greenwich is a beautiful place such a shame that even the nicer parts are being affected by knife crime now.

Can you imagine American cops putting up with this shit ? Not a chance and the thugs there know it…bang bang…threat eliminated. Problem here is no one is worried about prosecution…all they get is a slapped wrist when their solicitor says “ oh his dad left when he was a baby…he has a hard life blah blah blah” . There has to be a deterrent that they are scared of…9mm rounds usually work.

You only have to look at a lot of the anti police reporting to see why they deal with incidents in such a mild mannered way because of the fear of being targeted. It’s a problem that’s been created where any institution is there to be popped at and questioned particularly on SM. In the case of some like Cousins they 100 percent deserve all the shit they get but there’s others who are unfairly reported on and when do they ever get any of the great work they do reported. As I’ve said previously the only time they get a positive story is when an officer loses his life.

Good diversion to put it on the cops rather than the people commiting crime. No one’s saying that’s right but let’s not forget this gentleman who was murdered on this day in 1985. The investigation deserves reopening.

Going to London is getting riskier by the day. It’s very sad. What’s even sadder is that people are unwilling to do anything to pull together to work on stopping this growing problem as they’d rather points score and take cheap shots. The Met are in a shocking state and need splitting into 4 smaller forces for me. There’s so much wrong in the system. - Lack of funding for Youth clubs / projects - Cuts in the Police by Theresa May. - Lack of appropriate sentencing. - Stop and search being constantly criticised. - Division between the communities and the Police. - A mayor who offers no support what so ever to the Police. - Lack of strong leadership in the Met.

There's absolutely no respect, no discipline, and no deterrent. Even if they get caught all they get is a slap on the wrist and the do-gooders jumping on the case and spouting the usual rubbish in their defence. These people are utter scum and should be treated as such. Sentences should be greatly increased in severity and these bastards should serve the full term.

I go to London quite a lot…my daughter is at Uni down there…and thankfully I’ve never seen any problems. Then again…I’m quite a big lad 6ft plus and 16 stone…and I’m very aware of what’s happening around me at all times. You have to be switched on no matter where you are these days…London or Hanley…shit can happen anywhere.

You have to be switched on no matter where you are these days…London or Hanley…shit can happen anywhere. It can indeed. Often people will take the lead and are influenced / get ideas from the goings on in London though as it’s the place most in focus being the capital city in the same way that people in London often seem to take the lead from what they see happening in the US. London’s such a great city in so many ways with its amazing history, pomp and pageantry and used to be the place I always looked forwards to visiting as a kid. I’m not sure when it started going down hill as I’ve been fortunate to have worked, socialised and lived there throughout the late 80s up to the early 0’s and I have to sat it never felt unsafe then (maybe it’s nativity and the lack of social media). I went to Barking a few weeks back for a conference and it was an awful place. Despite it being the daytime there were crackheads at the station arguing and fighting, beggars, kids smoking weed and the police arresting someone who was covered in blood. It felt very different to when I used to go there back in the day to see mates and quite hostile. The city of Londons very different to Barking though though as no one lives there, I guess the characters who did this looked on as a place for easy pickings and that those they looked to target are less likely to fight back than where they’ve come from in one of the local Boroughs. Thanfully they’ve had a big shock and been sent packing by some very brave people. Fingers crossed they’re caught and face some serious time inside regardless of how old they are. The Met are a shambles (this incident was City of London Police) and need restructuring / sorting but should never be used as an excuse to deflect from the bigger issue which is a society problem where people encourage disorder / anarchy because they think any laws / rules are a sign of fascism and that people who have money are scum and that these characters are modern day Robin Hoods.

I went into the West End yesterday evening with my wife before she gives birth to our third in the coming days.
As normal, several people immediately got up to give my wife a seat on the train (it wasn’t even busy but people wanted to make it as easy as possible for my wife and I. The same happened on the short tube to Leicester Square from Waterloo.
We ate at a restaurant inspired by the Barbary Coast. It was phenomenal. The restaurant was buzzing, the staff went above and beyond, and the clientele were a huge mix of tourists, Londoners, jews, muslims, all sorts. So were the staff.
At one point having run out of a particular ingredient, they sent a waiter to ask for some from neighbouring restaurants, who duly provided within minutes. It is clearly a very caring and supportive community for local businesses.
For pudding, we went around the corner for gelato. Again, the staff were really helpful and knowledgeable in advising my wife who is coeliac.
Next we went to see the longest running play on earth. The Mousetrap, at St Martin’s Theatre. It was fantastic. At the interval, my wife was very uncomfortable being almost 40 weeks pregnant so she asked for a cushion. Instead, the usher (a proper south Londoner) moved us to a free box that had comfier chairs, lots of cushions and much more leg room than the old theatre seats. Really kind of him.
We walked back to Waterloo over Jubilee Bridge. Everything was beautifully lit up. Working from home so often, you can forgot how stunning London is at night at the river.
World class and fairly unique food, world class culture and entertainment. Everyone we encountered went out of their way to be kind and thoughtful. What a magical city London is, and the vast majority of the people who live and work here.
I thought I’d share some perspective from someone who actually lives in London, to juxtapose with the opinions of many on here who don’t live in London. It isn’t all stabbings and violent protests! Certainly no more so than other massive cities across the world.

Agree with all of that. The big worry is what will happen when the lights go out during winter ? I know it’s not certain yet but it’s gonna happen. All the media reports and statements from Government are preparing us for it…just like the Covid lockdowns.

Agree with you…I’m down there every few weeks for an overnight stay to see the daughter and we’ve never had a problem…walking around at night has been fine as have the tubes. Everyone we interacted with…shops, restaurants etc were lovely. As you say it’s probably the same as most big cities around the world…a handful of knobs ruin it. We’ve been to see Mousetrap at that theatre too about 6 months ago…it was very good but you’re right those seats are a bit uncomfortable lol. Good luck to you and the Mrs on the birth of number 3 👍

Due to the number of tourists where you went for your day notably the West is one of the safer places to go. To get the full taste perhaps taking a trip to Barking, Deptford, Hackney or East Ham could be in order. Having worked and lived and still have people who work and live there I’d say I’m “qualified” to have an opinion and it’s not gumpth to believe there’s an issue. One of my best friends lives in Hackney and certainly didn’t depict it as some sort of urban paradise. Having recently spoken to some youth leaders at a conference I attended there’s an issue alright.
