Yep, although the rise in violence and sexual offences from 5,772 to 12,464 in 12 months should be a concern.......... What has changed more during that time? Lockdown related maybe? The national stats are on the increase but if I'm reading them right the national average for violence and sexual offences is 35 per 1,000 and in Stoke-on-Trent it's 45. Nowhere near the worst in the country and overall as felonious says the stats are good just a watch out I guess........

I think it'd be interesting to see how levels of violence and sexual offences in an area match up with the levels of alcohol consumed in the same area. Figures I've seen claim that cases of domestic violence increase by a factor of 8 when alcohol is involved. Still, MPs get a discount on it in the many Houses of Parliament bars so it must be safe..

There’s a huge difference to a one off tragic incident like Saskatchewan and something that happens on a daily basis. What’s this got to do with race anyway? His ethnicity has got nothing to do with the dogs dinner he’s making of his job. It’s about the issue in London predominantly but any big city in the U.K. too. London will always get the most attention because it’s the biggest city and the one that gets the most focus. Due to this other areas will follow various trends that start there like knife crime or this worrying new craze of looting and take its lead. For what it’s worth living in and working close to London I know a lot of people who are moving out because they don’t feel safe anymore. One friend who lives in Islington who wants to stick it out has been burgled 4 times this year. He’s just spent the best part of 50k on security. So for every tale of “I’ve been to Croydon and felt safe” there’s a counter story of someone saying the opposite. So in relation to “Usual suspects creating / commenting on this thread to justify an agenda that goes far beyond 'London” I’m not sure what the agenda is as I’m not trying to achieve anything by having a good old moan but reading about all the murders and stabbings saddens me as we have some of the greatest historic cities not just in Europe but the world and it’s sad to see them getting wrecked and seen fairly or unfairly as places that no one wants to visit. Yes maybe social medias over exposing the problem but it’s not nice seeing people having there shops wrecked or kids being stabbed / murdered on what appears a regular basis. If you want people to be scared of their own shadows, people should keep talking up “no go areas”. The reality is there are hardly any, pockets of London and other cities you would need to have your wits about you of course…… It’s not about being scared to go out it’s more about sorting the problem out as it’s a growing issue. In 10 years unless things change re it’s policing and community imfastructure it’ll be worse.

God almighty, some people think it’s wrong to even attempt to police an ever growing problem of violent disorder in this country. What is wrong with stop and search? There is no earthly reason why this shouldn’t be implemented in trouble spots. What harm does it do to law abiding citizens?

It's racist mate....apparently 🙄 How is it racist? Some chap who was stopped and search a couple of years back made it a colour issue as did social media, the press etc. A particular MP was all over it, ironically in area where many stabbings seem to happen.

If you are in a high crime area and look like a dodgey fucker. We all know the look , I think they call it "road manz" these days then you should expect to be stopped and searched weather you are black white or Australian , shouldn't make a difference

If you are from Africa or the Middle East for instance, you have a much greater chance of not being asked to show your ticket. You can get away by not speaking swedish. They ask the swedes first. Recently I've also noticed many of the controllers are immigrants.

Interesting that none of the press appear to have mentioned this www.newhamrecorder.co.uk/news/crime/man-19-charged-with-canning-town-shooting-3155994They have however described him as “lovely guy” “do anything for anyone” “father in 5 months” “going to uni” “not involved in gangs” “getting married” “funny” “happy” “victim” It’s like they’re more interested in stoking up trouble / riots rather than giving a more balanced picture.

45% for crime overall. Gosh! 😲 Say that to the Swedish police. They would be over the moon. A police man said to me "at LEAST 85%, it's always the same people committing crimes here". They're even on tv here procaiming their right to build unions for their occupation. Scandi countries seem to have low rates generally, are you *sure* this policeman knew his stuff? This might be interesting for you www.encartele.net/2018/04/what-can-us-correctional-facilities-learn-from-scandinavian-jails/I read it. Not much about Sweden there though at all. In my world the focus should be on the victim. The most fair way might be to let the victims decide what the outcome should be in each case.

You asked earlier ... What harm does it do to law abiding citizens? Imagine if you are a law abiding citizen who is regularly getting stopped and searched, even though you ARE a law abiding citizen, it'd start to piss you off pretty soon.

One of the greatest cities in the world. It has it’s challenges around gang related crime of course but this is scaremongering nonsense. It even rates fairly highly (14th in 2022) as one of the worlds safest cities to visit as a tourist…… I appreciate your Islington bias, but can assure you, it absolutely isn't one of the safest or "greatest" cities in the world. I can think of about 40 off the top of my head that are both safer and more beautiful. Its a million miles off the description you give it.

I appreciate why white, privileged, "Liberal" turds feel the need to make this a race issue but it really isn't. Stop and search has a place and anyone with any kind of a moral compaas can see why.

The link is over four and half years old! I know. But it’s the person that sadly lost his life that’s referred to as being charged for carrying a gun unless like the press you think it’s irrelevant to the story. Clearly there’s a past there where he’s been involved in an incident involving a firearm but as is often the case those involved in incidents like this are portrayed as fun loving, salt of the earth good guys. Of course if the Police are deemed to be at fault they should be taken to task but there’s a real media bias there that will create more division by unbalanced reporting and creating people as martyrs that will spark more riots.

Isn't the Swedish prison system run along similar lines tho? The focus should be on the victim, but letting the victim decide the punishment sounds quite ridiculous to me. Any idea what the actual recidivism rate is or are we sticking with what the policeman said?

For me , if I was a parent of a 17-30 year old whose son or daughter was going out for the night in London ( or anywhere), I'd be saying that if you are stopped and searched , just accept it, be cooperative, be polite. If you are stopped 3 or 4 times in ONE night ( unlikely) remain calm , cooperate, accept it, be polite. I'd be saying ( and my children understood this)....that it is only for your safety and if you have nothing to hide, unfortunately it is one of the inconveniences of life in inner cities at present. If one weapon is found then potentially that has saved my daughter's life. The fact that a young person believes that he/she is quite likely to get stopped and searched should hopefully be a deterrent to carrying weapons....AND so SHOULD the punishment for doing so. When asked, most knife carriers claim that they carry them for self defence, not to be used offensively. It should not be necessary and to carry a knife is knowingly to take the risk of the punishment. IS it still true that if stopped and searched the Police have to issue a paper saying so?...if this is a case and someone accumulates a totally disproportionate amout of chits, then yes perhaps this should be taken up through appropriate channels( with possibly no effect)...but unfortunately that may have to be the price of going out in a " dangerous " area....there are areas of London where you are more likely to be stopped than other areas. In this age of body cameras ( on the Police) and cameras carried by friends it is possible/ likely that if the search is not carried out unprofessionally consequences could follow....so is the stop and search so intrusive compared to the safety of young people? I don't particularly like to be "searched" every time I go through security before flights....imagine how much easier the process would be without checks. I don't particularly like the amount of surveillance cameras we have nowadays, but hopefully they are a deterrent. Perhaps we will see more of these at shop entrances, entrances to clubs and pubs. I recall seeing mobile ones on pavements and people being asked to walk through. www.wg-plc.com/category/walk-through-metal-detectionwww.standard.co.uk/hp/front/random-knife-searches-on-all-pupils-in-waltham-forest-6701068.html?amp
