Just booked for Sea Power at The Sugarmill on 14th October. They're the band I've seen live the most (about 50 times), but I haven't seen them locally since the first time: Staffs Uni in 2003. Gary Delaney is in Whitchurch on June 26th and Hanley on August 6th. He's the comedian I've seen live most, and he probably gets funnier every time. I'm tempted by Floyd in the Flesh at Eleven in Tunstall on 1st July. The sound has been great both times I've been to gigs at Eleven. The Annual Diversion in Northwich is a good little festival starting late afternoon 15-16th July, with mostly Cheshire-based bands. I'm going on the Friday, which is only £8 and mostly punk/garage rock type bands. Friday headliners The C33s are excellent. Hazel's Maze, playing on the Saturday, are well worth checking out for classic rock fans. I saw them a few weeks ago and hope to see them again at some point. Edit: maybe a link to the lineup would helpful: www.songkick.com/festivals/3437756-rare-vitamin-annual-diversion/id/40367640-rare-vitamin-annual-diversion-2022#lineupDefo try to go to that one if I can convince some one to come with me. Not many I know with a penchant for live classic rock! Weirdos Have you been to any gigs on your own or is this just one where it's the accompaniment that makes it more tempting? I go to loads of gigs on my own (as do plenty of others who I get talking to at times), so I'm sad if people miss out on gigs if they would've gone otherwise! I just checked out the Inglorious singles on Spotify and I'm tempted by the gig if I don't have much else going on at the time. Ride to Nowhere was my favourite track.

If you like a bit of Floyd, there's also The Floyd Experience at Mitchell theatre in Hanley on Sat 17th sept - not seen them before, but their videos look good. Booked in to watch them. Eleven is a great additional for the local music scene, been there plenty of times now. Couple I've got coming up - Electromantics Sat 20th August, excellent 80s electro band, think Human League, Depeche Mode, Gary Newman, Ultravox, Heaven 17, etc, and also a brilliant Rush tribute band called Bravado on Sat 3rd Sept - the guy could be Geddy Lee's brother!

Keep Live Music Alive in Stoke on Trent (and surrounding areas) is an excellent Facebook page, I’m seeing artists and bars/clubs I didn’t even know existed so give it a go!!!

The live inglorious stuff on YouTube really doesn't do them justice. I believe that Eleven spent some bounce back money on the sound equipment, I'd agree it's better than most venues. Sound is great at The Foxlowe Arts centre too, surprisingly so given the room it occupies.

I was already tempted by The Darling Buds and MJ Hibbett, but Pop at the Lock in Middlewich looks more tempting after listening to Jetstream Pony. Lineup: "The Darling Buds, The Just Joans, MJ Hibbett & The Validators, Jetstream Pony, Nervous Twitch, and All Ashore!" MJ Hibbett & The Validators made the best song ever about 80s gaming (and probably gaming as a whole), Hey Hey 16k - it's a piece of genius. They're good fun live.

You'd need to have a look at what he sings though as it isn't soul, retro etc. Highly recommended though

We've got a Stoke band in Northwich in a couple of weeks, sac n craic, anyone heard them ? Yeh, saw them in The Glebe a few weeks back, not bad, sort of folky, shanty type stuff, 3 blokes, I'd have said by the accent they were from Wolverhampton lead singer anyway.

Oli Eyre former west end singer at Stoke Rep tonight Friday. He’s covering his life story (broke back in three places rock climbing) plus music + band. Audlem music festival supposed to be tomorrow, Saturday, but I must admit it’s difficult trying to find info, understand there’s a soul band + Abba tribute.

Help me sort this mother of clashes out on 17th September!
Hey Pixies tribute at The Sugarmill Lost in Music (disco live band) at Victoria Hall Floyd Effect at Mitchell Arts Centre
I've already ruled out Ash playing Free All Angels in full in Birmingham.
Fabrizio Paterlini, a pianist in the vein of Einaudi, is playing in Manchester, and I think that's my most likely destination. Floyd Effect are playing Dark Side of the Moon and A Momentary Lapse of Reason in full, as well as other stuff. So that will be an epic. If I stay local, that'll probably be the one. But I really like Paterlini...

Keep the date for this one folks. I will be doing a few live sets of British/American pop/rock/punk/etc at Calvert Animal Welfares Bark-b-Que in Prince Frederick on the 24th of next month. 11 till 3. First gig back after my last spinal injection and this one went in thru the vocal chords so….you need to be there for the comeback.

We might end up with only O2 venues at this rate... "Yesterday morning our CEO Mark Davyd received an email from a grassroots music venue who had received their latest energy bill quote. Previous bill: £10,000 per annum New Bill: £144,000 per annum Understandably, the venue had decided to simply hand the keys back to the landlord and walk away. The venue had exhaustively worked with a range of energy brokers that Music Venue Trust has secured who take venues to 'the market' to seek alternative quotes. It is important to understand this: No other energy provider would even quote for their business. Not a single one. This is the only fixed contract quote for future energy supply available to this venue and it comes from their existing supplier with no possibility to change to an alternative supplier. That is not a ‘market’. It is a monopoly." www.facebook.com/musicvenuetrust/photos/a.367339286806798/2065402003667176/?type=3

I think its fair to say that this is the most crucial week in the history of UK live music. Truss gets it wrong and hundreds of venue will have no choice but to close, and close quickly.
